4 out of 5 eggsWOW!

Pros: Amazing technology. Specifically - network KVM. It allows you to put this server somewhere without physical access, and this little card lets you administer it as if you are sitting in front of the box, with keyboard, mouse and monitor.

This includes pre-boot / BIOS access !

Cons: only one complain: once you click on KVM option it crates java config file, but instead of regular file extenstion it addes unique session number. Older filers do not work anymore, and you have to rename so double-click would work.

Other Thoughts: if you don't plan to place this server remotely - this card is probably overkill.

I planned on offsite nas4free box.

5 out of 5 eggsA MUST HAVE

Pros: Once you setup the card you are able to access the BIOS from a remote PC

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I configured my RAID 1 using this card from a remote computer, without a keyboard or display plugged in. If you buy the HP Micro Server without getting this card your making a big mistake.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great

Pros: Works great on the N54L microserver. Using this you can connect your Microserver to your network. From there you can log in via a web browser and it's Ip address. You can then launch the console screen so there is no need for a monitor. Also makes it convenient to manage remotely.

Cons: It takes up a pcix slot and it wasn't free.

Other Thoughts: Wouldn't buy a server without one. I wonder if I can install something like this in my desktop.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat functionality, wish it was more stable

Pros: Lights-out management for your ProLiant Microserver without breaking the bank
Good user interface
Allows remote reboot, power off, and power on
IP-based KVM allows even for remote BIOS configuration
Supports remote mounting of ISO images for OS or application install

Cons: This card's OS isn't always stable; I have times when I try to perform a function, and I get kicked back out to the login screen. At least you can remote reboot the card's onboard OS from within its management interface, however, this just shouldn't be happening on the regular basis that it is for me.
Also, the standard login to the card's web interface is HTTP, not HTTPS. While it supposedly supports both, this should be a de facto security standard for such a piece of hardware, as it's a product you purchase with remote access in mind.
As the card replaces the ProLiant's VGA, you'll need to find drivers from Aspeed Tech (who makes the chipset), as opposed to HP. Fortunately there are Windows 8 drivers which work with Server 2012, but this should be on HP's shoulders.
Finally, while HP has online documentation, it is only average; some details are missing, or based on earlier firmware (which has not been updated in over a year).
All of these reasons are enough to take off two eggs.

Other Thoughts: This is a neat product that requires more polish, another firmware update or two, and better (HP-provided) driver support and documentation.

3 out of 5 eggsOS support is limited

Pros: Inexpensive KVM over IP.

Cons: Doesn't work with ESXi 4.1u1 - system boots and then hangs with the message "Tech support mode has been disabled by the administrator" (regardless of whether or not it actually has!). KVM over IP keyboard doesn't work with FreeNAS 7 (i386 or amd64).

Other Thoughts: HP support was great, sent me a replacement card to try, but no luck...

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Supports KVM over IP. Strangely, there seems to be no mention of this in the docs or online specs. (Perhaps they are trying to steer people looking for that feature toward their more expensive servers?)
Also supports virtual media and remote power control.

Cons: - It uses up one of the MicroServer's 2 PCIE slots. Wish they would've just integrated this functionality into the motherboard instead.
- Text looks really distorted when using KVM over IP; it appears to use a JPEG-like lossy compression algorithm.
- Virtual CD feature is SLOW; transfer rates top out at about 1 MB/sec (over a 100mbit LAN connection). A real DVD drive can easily read a DVD disc 5 times faster than that.
- Requires dedicated LAN connection; it cannot share the motherboard's onboard LAN connection.
- KVM over IP and virtual media require Java browser plugin; no standalone alternatives are available that I can find.
- No voltage monitoring capabilities, just temperature and rear fan speed.

Other Thoughts: The management software is Avocent MergePoint EMS.
