1 out of 5 eggspiece of #$#@

Pros: -modular

Cons: -blows up when plugged in
-irregular power cable (replacement issue)

Other Thoughts: The modularity is a definite plus, but the fact that it blew up the first time I plugged it in puts me off a bit.
The explosion didn't affect any other components, so that is a "Pro"...
Also, the power cable is not standard, so there's that...
So, if you're looking to throw your money in the garbage, and fear not of explosions or frying the other components,
this purchase may be the one for you.

3 out of 5 eggsGood power with a major defect.

Pros: -Good power. Modular design. Well built. High quality cables.

Cons: -There's a serious defect with the fan connections. (The top fan connector does not work at all, and if used it causes the PSU to short out over and over.)

Other Thoughts: The fan connections are not essential. Many other PSU's don't have these. However, since they're there they should work. Moreover, it becomes a major troubleshooting issue, and an issue that could potentially cause damage to the rest of the computer by power cycling your system over and over rapidly. The defect might be something people are willing to live with if they know about it, but it's a problem that could potentially damage components of unsuspecting users' systems. It took me awhile to figure it out, and I'm not happy about the hassle it caused. Therefore, I would not recommend this PSU.

5 out of 5 eggsSparkle Magna GOLD 850w

Pros: Great Price, excellent flat ribbon cables, semi-modular, quality power cable that is rated for 850w (14 or 16 awg), has fan connectors

Cons: Non-standard power plug (-.5 egg), voltage output well within specs but not quite at exactly (-.5 egg). I use Thermaltake Dr. Power II to check the voltage. The readout (I bought 2 units) -

First Unit
+5V
5.1

+12V
12.2

+3.3V
3.3

-12V
12.6

-5VSB
4.9

PG 336

Second Unit
+5V
5.1

+12V
12.1

+3.3V
3.3

-12V
12.6

-5VSB
4.9

PG 331

Other Thoughts: I hope Jonnyguru website will pick up this unit and give it a test to check out the voltage regulation and ripple suppression.

Very important - Don't lose the power cord! This unit uses a thick 3 prong power cord but it is not your standard PC Power cord. However, it is rated either 14 or 16awg so it will do the job. Just don't lose it or it you will need replacement.

I bought 2 at volume discount, plus a coupon, brings the total to less than $140 including tax. You can't beat that. Four eggs with the cons, but the price more than makes up for it so it is 5 eggs again, if you can get it with volume discount and coupon. I use 1 and keep 1 as backup.

I love Newegg! I pretty much buy all my electronics from Newegg now.

3 out of 5 eggsSparkle Magna Gold

Pros: The Price
It is fully modular
From what I've read, this power supply has some of the best internals

Cons: This is purely subjective, but all the cables that came with the power supply have awkward lengths, and sizes for the case I have (300R).

The Fan connector will short out the entire system. As in, this power supply comes with two aux fan lines, If I actually plug a fan into these lines, the power supply will short and not turn on.

Other Thoughts: The fan thing sucks, I was really hoping to have some extra airflow available.

Pros: Very high build quality. Power output is amazing... I'm running 4 video cards off this beast. 3x Radeon HD 5870's and 1 Radeon R9 270x!!! My mining rig hasn't blinked. Very impressive PSU.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Sparkle makes great products.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I was able to grab this unit on sale so bear that in mind.

At first I was hesitant since Id only ever seen low end Sparkle graphics cards but after some research I found the SPI brand to be a well respected PSU brand and that this unit in particular was recommended.

I love that the modular cables are all flat ribbons.

Its totally silent.

Cons: The spacing between sata connection on a single cable is strangely large. If I wanted to use two sata power connection that are next to each other on a cable, on two hard drives that are next to each in a drive cage, the excess cabling juts out quit a bit. You can push the bulge in so the excess curves into the cage instead of away from it but depending on your you may HAVE TO in order to close the side panel which I thought was weird.

Other Thoughts: As you can see the con is really not much of anything.

An 850W 80 plus gold modular PSU from a respected manufacturer for the price I paid was a steal I think.
