An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output, find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20 A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make certain that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.

Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)

That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 620 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution). Could this be your next power supply?

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent PSU

Pros: Long lasting, powerful, efficient, modular, quiet

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Bought this PSU 4 years ago and worked great until it completely died on me a few weeks ago. Plugged it into my PSU tester and the -5V rail is only thing thats bad. Since they have a 5 year warranty, I am going to try to see what Corsair customer service can do for me. I've had power supplies last 15 years and others die within a year, so 4+ years is well worth the money.

5 out of 5 eggsStill the best hardware I've ever owned!

Pros: I've owned this PSU for 6 years now. It's never beeped, buzzed, clicked, or failed. I put it in my case (Antec P182) SIX YEARS AGO and it has worked flawlessly since day one, and every day since.

Corsair and Seasonic truly assembled a masterpiece with this thing, I can safely say it's the best piece of PC hardware I've owned in my 25+ years of PC gaming.

Cons: Wish more of the cables (or ALL of them) were modular. I've had to wrap some of them in twist-ties and shove them on-top of the unit to get them out of the way. Only 80% efficient; barely Bronze. But it came out in 2006-2007 so I can forgive it for that. At the time it was the best PSU ever made.

Other Thoughts: When I bought this unit, the warranty was 5 years. Corsair has sinced bumped their HX warranties to 7 years, so hopefully I'm still covered. My friend is sending me his spare 620HX so I can keep using this model without having to buy a new PSU (and risk losing quality).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PS

Pros: This was a great power supply. Then again, when it was purchased in July 2007, It was $170.00. I will have someone local check to see if it's worth repairing. Thanks Corsair.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong!

Pros: Bought this for a build in 2008 and it's still going strong after 5 years! Has the essential connectors to support even the newer video cards which require the additional power connectors. Has not failed through various power surges.

Cons: No complaints

Other Thoughts: Upgraded to a new a rig. i5 Ivy Bridge Core with 16 gigs of Ram oc'd at 4.3 Ghz...Geforce GTX 560 superclocked bideo card and it's still running it without any problems for about a year now.

5 out of 5 eggsIt was a beast, then it died violently

Pros: - Removable cabling means less unnecessary clutter in your case.
- It died violently, but it protected the rest of my computer.

Cons: - After transporting my computer home from across town the power supply died violently. The 620HX made two LOUD electrical popping noises, along with some smoke and the smell of death. It even left a burned outline of one of its sides in the case. I was very worried that everything was going to be fried.

Other Thoughts: My best guess is that there might have been a screw rolling around loose inside the case. It might have hopped into the power supply during transport and shorted something out.

5 out of 5 eggsLove Corsair

Pros: I'm on the high edge of this PSU's capacity and have been running it like that for over a year. It has never faltered. Nice and quiet. The guys over at [H]ardOCP recommended it, so I bought it and I do not regret it.

Cons: Not "full modular"

2 out of 5 eggsLemon?

Pros: Well it's a working PSU that does it's job and works very well. It pushes good wattage, and can make a computer go.

Cons: Well, Unlike corsair, the thing must be a lemon. It's 4 pin CPU power cable is actually about 1 inch long? it can't reach anything. i thought i'd send it in for warranty until i found out that the warranty label is missing from this power supply or corsair doesn't send theirs with the little stickers(is this right?) so i'll try an RMA but i doubt i'll get it.

Other Thoughts: really 1 inch cord? also i heard something about it having a fan wire. but the fan used inside is 2 pin so it can't read rpm, unless it's a speed control wire but even then this PSU is missing that wire too. i'm confused. prototype or lemon?

5 out of 5 eggs4+ yrs of service

Pros: Stable and durable. It gave out after 4 years. Still in warranty so I contacted Corsair and they sent me a brand new one w/ free shipping! :O

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Purchased Corsair RAMs and PSUs in the past 7 years for 5 builds (with a few SSDs). Corsair rocks :]
