Does this PSU have any coil whine?

?  Only at started up for POST. It's just a fan. You know, I didn't notice after. I installed it, turned it on. Didn't notice a thing. I've only had it in a new computer 2 or 4 days. Each time I started it, the fan exhaust was facing me. No whining as far as I can tell. That's about 5 sec. The company that makes Corsair PSUs is contracted to make several other brands. Seasonic and XFX are a few. Not bad PSUs. Hope this helps.

Are the cables lengthy? I have a full sized desktop case with a bottom-mounted PSU and am just a little worried that the CPU power or motherboard power connectors won't reach.

Yes, the cables are plenty long, I have a Full tower case, a Phantom 530, and the cables are perfect length.

i am currently trying to build my first gaming rig, i have the case from a late model dell xps 8700. will this work with that case or will i have to buy a different case?

It should work since it is a simple swap of ATX PSUs. The dimensions are pretty tightly regulated.

That said, be advised that that case is a very small micro ATX case. You will be limited in your choice of motherboards and size of video cards you can install. I always recommend a high quality case that can fit a full ATX motherboard for gaming rigs. You will have an easier space to work in, more room to upgrade, and better cable management. You will have more drive slots, openings for extra fans, and headroom for a large, high performance CPU cooler. You may not be able to afford those things up front, the ability to incrementally upgrade your rig  however you like will keep it running and performing for years and years.

Question 4

I'm doing my first build and all I have left to purchase is a chip and power supply. I know I want somewhere between a 700W or 850W. My case is the Corsair 350D. Would this be a good PSU?

Tyler, if you want a good answer provide full specs of the system you're trying to build, especially if the question is about a PSU, because it will have to power your whole unit. Your case doesn't really matter much, because this should fit in all cases, unless you have a super small microITX case, which you don't.

Now, first of all, yes this is a good power supply, quiet and does what it's supposed to do, I personally like it and am using it as I'm typing this (RM750).

The main question is are you going to use more than one video card? I am currently using a EVGA GTX 780ti, which is one of the top video cards in the market right now, and the power supply is more than enough, but I don't know if it'll be enough if I use another video card, I don't think in this day an age you'll ever be needing a second video card for an SLI setup, unless you have some crazy surround setup with multiple monitors, or one really high resolution monitor like 2560*1600 etc.

The bottom line, yes this is a good PSU, get it!

What are the dimensions for this power supply?

150mm x 86 mm x 180mm. It was a little bit bigger than the old one, but still fit fine in a normal ATX case (non micro) though.

Do you think that this will fit into a mid tower case?

It should fit, since most mid towers will accept an ATX power supply of any length. But if your case has limited space for the power supply, you may need to plug in the modular cables before you install the power supply.

Without knowing the exact model of tower case in question, I can't give a definite answer.

Is this item CrossFireX compatible? It looks to be, but doesn't say directly one way or the other.

It works with SLI 680 GTX's which I believe is the same as Cross FireX is it not? It's a great product love it!

Question 9

Will the fan run immediately when the unit is plugged in and the rear switch turned on?  My unit doesn't seem to be working and I'm wondering if I need to use a circuit tester to check output.

I'll answer my own question... the fan does not come on when the switch is turned on.  It doesn't come on under minimal load.  It is thermally controlled.  I was able to turn the unit on by bridging pins 15 (gnd) & 16 (ps_on) and then running a couple of fans and two optical drives.  No fan under that light load / temp.  I know that the power problem I am having is elsewhere.

Hi Guys, I bought a "CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme 1502 (GX1502) Desktop PCIntel Core i7 5820K (3.30GHz) 8GB DDR4 1TB HDD 120GB SSD Windows 8.1 64-bit" from Newegg and it has been having power problems. 
The Q&A section suggested a power supply upgrade to fix the problem, would this unit be compatible with that setup? Thanks! (The mobo is "GIGABYTE X99-UD3")

You did not mention what kind of power supply you currently have and how many video cards you are running. rule of thumb is MB and cpu will used up around 200-300 watt of power "none overclocking wattage". Then add whatever your video requirements are by looking up the specs. usually a gtx 780 needs 200watt. I have this in my setup with dual gtx 780 overclocked. i5-3570k overclocked, 8x 180mm fan on a 1080 water radiator and dual water pumps and 6 120mm fan and its been running for for over a year.
