3 out of 5 eggsCabling...

This review is from: CORSAIR CSM Series CS650M 650W ATX12V v2.4 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It is a Corsair... I have used these exclusively for years and never had any operational issues with them. Solid performance and clean power.

Cons: The cabling on these type 3 units from Corsair are not very accommodating if you have a case that mounts the PSU at the top, the SATA cables will be in the wrong direction... I know I can remove the caps and flip the connectors but I don't think I should have to mess with a new PSU for that when the solution would simply be to provide at least one cable for top mounted installs.

Two eggs come off just cause I have to mount the HDs upside down now so the cable can reach the top of the case.

Just so I am clear the thing functions just fine like I have it installed, just looks kinda fugly to have the drives upside down...

4 out of 5 eggsTimely... to say the least.

This review is from: CORSAIR CSM Series CS650M 650W ATX12V v2.4 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: -Arrived in 24 hours!!
-Slim and flexible enough sata power cable to install in my (very cramped) raid cage

Cons: So far I haven't been let down by corsair's 80+gold PSU's, including this one. I guess my oldest one is only 2 years, but still.

Other Thoughts: BSOD, mobo power surge, workstation wont turn on. But hey- ordered this from newegg and was down for less than 24 hours!

5 out of 5 eggsCorsair,s CS650M PSU Review

This review is from: CORSAIR CSM Series CS650M 650W ATX12V v2.4 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Well to start a nice little modular psu. I like the main cable being braided wish the rest were to but for the price not bad, Should be a really feasible little psu for a mid range gaming machine, I used it on an Msi NF980-G65 Mother Board. worked really well, using an AMD Phenom II X6 Processor. And a NVidia GTX 570 Graphics Card. two ssd hard drives a 256GB And a 512gb. and 8 Gigabytes of Kingston Hyper X Memory 4x by 2x chips. And also a wireless PCI card. never had a problem at all didn't seem to have any issues keeping every thing running strong.

Cons: wish all of the other cables would have been braided to lol but that's just me.

Other Thoughts: Good price and good 650 watt Unit for the money if you need a good power supply for a midrange gaming system.

1 out of 5 eggsNeed cables!

This review is from: CORSAIR CSM Series CS650M 650W ATX12V v2.4 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: None. How can I rate it, if it won't turn on?

Cons: I am searching all over the Internet for an ATX12V 4 pin cable. So far I have found one that fits, but does not work with the Corsair. I thought that it would be a cool idea to buy a modular unit... but if you can't find the cables, then what is the point? Very disappointed! Double and tripple check the cables that are included, or you will be stuck with an oversized paperweight like me.

1 out of 5 eggsDied in 2 months

This review is from: CORSAIR CSM Series CS650M 650W ATX12V v2.4 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Worked perfect for the short while I had it.

Cons: Died after 2 months of moderate use. Did not even near max the output and one day it just stopped working. My off brand psu has lasted ten times that.

30 day warranty is kind of salt in the wound for a psu.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent value

This review is from: CORSAIR CSM Series CS650M 650W ATX12V v2.4 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: This power supply serves as an excellent foundation for a quiet medium-powered gaming rig. Although it's not completely silent, I almost never hear it over the case and GPU fans, which are already pretty quiet, as I favor low-noise PC builds Powered by this PSU, my system is rock-solid stable. I have gamed and browsed for many hours without a hiccup. Would purchase again.

Cons: *If you want complete silence, a Seasonic fanless 520W with a 7-year warranty is only $25 more.
*One day, there was some straining sound from the PSU fan, but that issue has completely gone away.

Other Thoughts: This power supply is not completely modular, but I don't consider that a con unless you intend to use fancy custom cables.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet. Effecient. Perfect for Mid-Range PC's

This review is from: CORSAIR CSM Series CS650M 650W ATX12V v2.4 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: - 2 weeks of contant use (pc left on 24/7) and not a single problem.
- Cool and quiet. PSU fan is barely audible.
- Enough connectors to meet the needs of most mid-range PC's.
It's currently powering 5 HDD's, 1 SSD, 1 DVD drive, 4 case fans, and a 6+8pin video card without issue.
- Modular! I personally only use modular PSU's ever since I purchased my first one. If you don't need the connectors just don't plug them in. Makes cable management easy for people who like a clean and organized case.
- Cable length is great. PSU is sitting in an Antec 1200 full tower. This is a massive case and I have no issues reaching every installed component requiring power.
- Highly energy efficient and the cost. There's a reason I grouped these two together. While this PSU might seem expensive compared to some others that fall in the same power range, it's made up for by the 80Plus Gold certification. This PSU will cost you a little more upfront but cost of ownership over its lifetime is less. These are generic numbers (used just as an example only!): spend thirty bucks more now but save sixty on your electric bill over the next 2-3 years on this psu versus another less energy effecient model.

Cons: There's not really anything that can be said here. Compared to other mid-range psu's this thing delivers. If I had to nitpick it would be that upfront cost but as pointed out above, provided you're thinking 2 or 3 years down the road, it's not really a con at all.

Other Thoughts: There's not much to say about a psu. In this power range there's a lot of competition to choose from. Over my techy lifetime I've owned somewhere around 20+ Corsair products ranging from simple case fans to high end SSD's and I'm happily adding this power supply to my collection. If you're in the market for a 600-650watt psu, let me save you a lot of clicking: If this psu will meet your power needs, add it to cart and call it a day.

4 out of 5 eggs$100 and Gold plus

This review is from: CORSAIR CSM Series CS650M 650W ATX12V v2.4 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: High end of the gold plus scale.

Chemi com Primary Capacitors.

Flat sleeved cabling.

Small Stature

Great price-point for anyone running a single high-end video card needing to save on a PSU.

Stickers on each side are flipped so it will read right side up however you mount it in the average case.

Cons: Sleeve bearing fan.

Teapo Capacitors for everything else.

24 pin cable not flat or fully sleeved.

RM series is only a few $ more for a better fan and better warranty.

Other Thoughts: I ran this on my PC for an hour at a 590w draw (640 from the wall) the fan can be audible but not bad. It was stabil and never fluctuated much on any of the voltages. My PC is an older Q9450 @ 3.733GHz with 2x GTX460's @ 920 MHz. I did not loose any stability at all running this PSU at it's MAX for that period.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful Power Supply

This review is from: CORSAIR CSM Series CS650M 650W ATX12V v2.4 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: An 80+ Gold Unit, that is modular, that is over 550w, and it is under $100?! Wow. This power supply is a winner for sure.

The modular cables are the same cables and connectors Corsair has been using for years, and they work.

This unit is very quiet. The fan never really got loud in my system with Dual-GTX670 graphics cards. There was also no noticeable coil whine.

The 4 6+2 Pin PCI-E power connectors was welcomed. It allowed me to run my Dual-GTX670 video cards without any need for extra adapters. I also like the way Corsair handles their PCI-E power connectors, with one cable with two ends on it. So I only have to run one cable from the PSU to the graphics cards. This makes for a cleaner looking case with less cable clutter.

The flat black stealth cables are very nice. Again, this leads to a nice looking cable clutter free case.

The single 12v rail is good as well. I don't like single rails on power supplies larger than 850w, but on a 650w unit like this I like to see a single rail. I've had power supplies shut down on me because of an overloaded 12v rail.

This power supply looks very good. The matte black paint is looks classy, and doesn't pick up fingerprints. The flat black cables look good, and the sleeved 24-pin connector looks nice as well.

Corsair has put the labels on the sides of this unit on so that no matter how the unit is mounted in your case the label will be the right way up. It is little details like this that Corsair always seems to pay attention to, and it is why Corsair power supplies are so great.

Cons: The biggest con I have with this unit is the 24-pin connector. It is nice that it is sleeved, however I would prefer that it used the same flat black cables as the rest of the cables on this unit. Also, the sleeving used was kind of thin, allowing the colored wires under the sleeving to be seen through the sleeving. The sleeving doesn't go all the way to the 24-pin connector either, which is common for this type of sleeving. So bare colored wires are clearly visible sticking out of the motherboard.

This is really the only con I have with this unit.

Other Thoughts: This unit powered the following system without any problems:

Intel Core i7-875K Overclocked to 4.2GHz
16GB DDR3-1600 RAM
eVGA P55 FTW 200 Motherboard
Dual ASUS GTX670 4GB DirectCUII Graphics Cards in SLI
128GB OCZ SSD
2TB Seagate SSHD
Corsair H100i CPU Cooler

4 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU, Decent Cables

This review is from: CORSAIR CSM Series CS650M 650W ATX12V v2.4 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: This modular power supply comes well packaged and is easy to install. The modular cables fight tightly and have a latch to hold them in place. The motherboard power cables aren't removable.

The unit is very quiet, noticeably quieter than the power supply that it replaced, which is also a quality unit.

Electrically, it's excellent, with very high efficiency, and a full range of voltage, temperature, and short circuit protections to protect your system.

Testing from light to full load in a heavy test system drew the single 12-volt rail from it's maximum value of 12.024 volts to 11.88 volts at full load. It would not drop below 11.88 despite the addition of further load. I was very pleased to note that at full load, the fan is still reasonably quiet, its sound being lost in the sounds of the system components.

Cons: The modular cables are of the flat ribbon variety, and they do not easily bend around tight corners.

The SATA cables in particular are frustrating. The connectors should really be just a little further apart and the cable should be longer--getting the test system cabled in a Rosewill Blackhawk case was a real challenge, and left more tension on the cable than I'd like.

The included Molex to FDD converter cable has the same black gloss finish as the rest, but the connectors on the Molex side were noticeably loose, making it harder to line up and plug in. A minor quibble, but I really didn't expect to see this kind of a lower-quality "afterthought" converter included with a unit of this quality.

Other Thoughts: It's a quality power supply from a company with a stellar reputation, and at a good price point. Despite some frustration with cables that are shorter and stiffer than I'd prefer, this is still a quality unit. It does face some competition at its selected price point, especially if you have a larger case.
