great caddy
- Pros: Great finish and build quality, nice carrying case included, HDD is very secure inside. Reliable, and thus far, works with any computer I've tried to hook it to with no problem. Have not yet needed to install drivers on anything to get it to work (not that I expected that I would have had to).
- Cons: No Firewire version available, doesn't come with the second cable to hook up for more power if ever needed (no big deal though, cuz I haven't needed it), though there is a jack on the case for it.
- Other Thoughts: I've tried this case with both a 40gb Fujitsu HDD and a 60gb Hitachi HDD, and I tried it in two desktops and a laptop, with both drives (I bought a blue and a red caddy). Never once had any problem. Never had to hook up a second cable for more power like with some caddies.

- Other Thoughts: This is my 3rd external drive enclosure and by far the nicest. You have your pick of colors. The case is very nicely finished and comes with hardware to secure the drive to the circuit board. Much nicer than the other models that I have owned. It comes with a nice zip-up pouch to accomadate the drive and cable. Excellent!!!!

- Pros: Assemble it and it just works
Linux drivers pre-built into the latest Ubuntu (Debian) kernels
WinXP Pro (SP3) supports it as well
Manual is well organized

- Other Thoughts: I was concerned that Linux wouldn't recognize this enclosure as Linux support is not mentioned in the literature I found on-line. I ordered it anyway.
I installed a Transcend 32G SSD in the enclosure and plugged it into a Linux box and it works great. I then unplugged it from the Linux box and attached it to a WinXP Pro (SP3) box and it works there just as well.
As a person with failing eyesight and diminishing manual dexterity, installing the smallish screws was more difficult than it has ever been.
The blue light on the front is REALLY bright. A piece of opaque tape will fix this.
I consider these last two personal problems/opinions, not product defects. :)

IDE here is not ATA-6 (Ultra ATA/100)
- Pros: Looks sturdy. Has drivers on a mini CD.
- Cons: Not adequately described by newegg.com (or Vantec on its website). This 2.5" "IDE" drive enclosure has an internal connector that does not begin to match the connector of my 2.5" IDE ATA-6 (Ultra ATA/100) drive. It looks like it would match my 9-year old 2.5" IDE drive that is awaiting destruction.
- Other Thoughts: Unable to use because of the gross connector mis-match.
- Pros: Works right out of the box, easy to setup, install, and use.
I put my laptop drive in it and plugged it into a friend's computer, and it read it like any other external drive.
- Cons: Only used it for a day to retrieve important data, so haven't really found any yet. Oh, except this minor one--the case is really smooth, so it can easily slide around a table and potentially fall off if you're not careful.
- Other Thoughts: The metallic blue case is really attractive.
