This review is from: SeaSonic S12G-450 450W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Active PFC Power Supply, Intel Haswell Ready

Pros: 8 SATA, 3 Molex, 1 Floppy. Add a molex to SATA adapter, and you have the perfect power supply for a massive NAS.
It's quiet. Whisper quiet and cool under heavy load.
Comes with 3-4 velcro straps, 10 plastic ties, a RMA form where you write down your S/N ahead of time.
Physical construction is moderately heavy.
The cables aren't wrapped, but separated so it's smaller I suppose, and aren't easily malleable unless you warm them up first. Hair dryer or heater or whatever. You can still work with them, it just takes some concentration.

Cons: At initial setup and run there are no cons. If it doesn't survive past the 5 year warranty, then I'll adjust my review. So far it's Aces.

Other Thoughts: To grasp just how awesome this power supply is, let me tell you what it's doing with my set up. I have a NAS server. It was running a Thermaltake Toughpower 750w PS. The computer has been failing to power on properly for about a year, but I didn't bother with it because it stayed on as NAS's tend to do. Then I did a cold power down after a NAS4Free OS update, and it was dead as disco.

So, ripped it apart. Saw swollen flowering capacitors on the "toughpower" PS, and it brought me here. With the Seasonic S12G-450, I have EVERY cable hooked up to a device, minus the PCI-E connector.
2 HDD fans(1+1 daisy chained- cooler master drive cages) = 1 molex
2 External fans(1+1 daisy chained- top mounted) = 1 molex
1 SSD = 1 molex(molex->sata adapter)
2 internal fans(front&back onboard)
1 cpu fan(onboard)
8 SATA spinning disks
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz(old but low tdp)
8 port 3ware RAID card with battery backup unit(draws PCI-E watts charging battery)
Intel Pro server NIC PCI-E

So, every port is used and I'm doubling up on a couple of molex and it runs like a dream. Going from a 750w PS to this has been a great experience. The gold level components will keep the electric bill down because it isn't converting 20% of my electricity into heat. I didn't think this would work, to be honest with you. But man, it's so beautiful, quiet, and efficient, I think I'm gonna cry a little.

I bought this when it was on sale a few days ago(goes on sale every so often), for $59.99. And Newegg Premier had a free sub for 3 months about a month back, so used that as well. I did all the wattage calculations for everything, and I needed anywhere between a 380w to a 430watt minimum, in a perfect world. And this thing is carrying that load without breaking a sweat(yet). Time will tell. For my needs, it's literally perfect. I can unreservedly recommend this power supply.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi John,

Thank you for your nice feedback. We do hope our S12G-450 will serve you for years in your NAS.
Have a nice day.

5 out of 5 eggsSeaSonic S12G-450 450W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Active PFC Power Supply, Intel Haswell Ready

This review is from: SeaSonic S12G-450 450W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Active PFC Power Supply, Intel Haswell Ready

Pros: Bought this power supply for an HTPC system build. I installed it into a new modular case and turned it on to test and thought something was wrong, as I could not hear anything. It is extremely quiet. The HTPC is in my living room and as hoped, NO noise at all.

Cons: None to date

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this SeaSonic power supply to anyone wanting silent running.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat power supply

This review is from: SeaSonic S12G-450 450W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Active PFC Power Supply, Intel Haswell Ready

Pros: Very solid power supply, quiet, tight tolerances on voltage delivered,. Comes with sturdy yet fairly flexible, long cables that reached everything with space to spare in a medium tower case, and numerous cable management zip ties (plus one velcro band) that made for a very clean install

Cons: Would give this 5 stars except for the lack of modular cabling (which is easily forgiven at this price level).

Other Thoughts: Nice product, can easily forgive lack of modular cabling at this price point, highly recommended.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HDD for Multiple HDD

This review is from: SeaSonic S12G-450 450W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Active PFC Power Supply, Intel Haswell Ready

Pros: Solidly built PSU. I have trusted SeaSonic in the past and am happy with it's performance. Using this for a NAS/HTPC setup with lots of drives. No performance issues.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I was rather upset to learn that this PSU does not cook bacon. I was hopeful that it would.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet and efficient

This review is from: SeaSonic S12G-450 450W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Active PFC Power Supply, Intel Haswell Ready

Pros: I installed the 450W Seasonic S12G to replace a modular OCZ 500W. My Asus Mobo utility was giving occasional low-voltage alarms with the OCZ, so I figured it was time to replace it. The Seasonic is much quieter; I didn't realize that the OCZ was the loudest fan in my case until I installed this PSU. I can also attest to a slight, but measurable, improvement in efficiency ... at idle, the Kill-A-Watt now shows 78 Watts with a power factor of .98. The previous PSU would draw around 84 watts at idle (the PC components are otherwise unchanged). Also, it is running very cool.

Time will tell if it's reliable, but so far so good.

Cons: Not modular, but I knew that when I ordered it, and the cables are well organized, so the unused cables aren't much of a nuisance.
