Thermaltake Toughpower 850W W0131RU is a high-end power supply unit designed to perform at a high efficiency rate. It is ideal for advanced power users who demand greater cooling and higher power for their systems. This unit features Active Power Factor Corrector (Active PFC), helping the unit to deliver a stable 850 Watts of continuous output at 50 degree centigrade operating environment, with up to 87% efficiency. It has four independent & dedicated +12V rails (12V1, 12V2, 12V3, 12V4) for enhanced power distribution and performance for your PC.
This PSU is compatible with Dual Core CPU, Quad Core CPU, NVIDIA SLI & Quad SLI and all Multi-Core GPU technologies, with two 6pin PCI-E connectors that allow connectivity to multiple graphic cards. It features an efficient Modularized Cable Management system to eliminate wire clutter, and enhance airflow for cooling. Cooling is further boosted with the 14 cm ball-bearing fan that reduces hot spots, offers excellent heat dissipation, and is extremely silent.
In addition, the power supply utilizes industrial grade components with Independent Voltage Circuits for stable and unflappable output, and protection against potential voltage surges. Reliability is ensured with the MTBF of more than 120,000 hours, and it's virtually immune to over voltage, over current, and potential short-circuits.

Not DOA
- Pros: NewEgg service can't be beat. Thermaltake's 5 year warranty on this unit says a lot. My board requires a minimum 600 watts, but the 850 gives it some breathing room. Currently running a dual core AMD, dual Raptors in RAID 0, 1 other SATA WD 150 for backup,eVga 7900GTO, 4 gigs of 800MHZ RAM, TT Mini Typhoon and a slew of fans. I plan on upgrading to a multi-core cpu and multiple gpu's. The TP 850 should handle that with no problem. It's everything as advertised and very quiet.
- Cons: As Sluggo said, it won't pass a standard PSU test, even though the unit is fine. Max sustainable 12v load is 62 amps. Both should be clearly stated somewhere.
- Other Thoughts: I reviewed one earlier that I thought was DOA because it failed 3 testers, but this one did the same and it performs great in my system, even better than expected. No second thoughts about this purchase. It's worth every penny. The 3% limit on voltage variation is a very nice plus. And, thanks to the NewEgg webmaster!
- Pros: Stable power, good airflow, Good cable design. Checking voltage on Pc ProbeII and charted on Speedfan - no flucuations.
- Cons: Would like to know which cables are on which rail.
- Other Thoughts: My system:Asus Striker Extreme, E6700, Corsair 8500C5 1 Gig x2, 3 WD 250's in raid 0, 2 WD 500's, 2 DVD RAM's, 7-1 Floppy, XFI-Fatality, 2 512MB 7900GTX - SLI, 6 Case Fans. 4 Light Tubes.

11 months later
- Pros: Silent and doesn't seem to like dust, very clean inside.
- Cons: Fan speed isn't adjustable.
- Other Thoughts: Powering my Core i7 920 Clocked to 3.6Ghz, 6GB DDR3 Corsair Dominators, Two 9800GTX's Overclocked and EVGA X58 mobo with no issues so far.
Great when it works
- Pros: Great PSU, worked for a core 2 quad and 955 AMD black edition phenom 2. Both were slightly OCed. Ran SLi and RAID 0 Stiped arrays without hesitation.
- Cons: I thought 850W and thermaltake would make a bulletproof PSU that would last for ages. Dead after 15 mths. RMAed my MoBo twice, first time they stated "multiple issues unrepairable" second time no issues, CPU rmaed no issues. In Thermaltakes RMA process. (Ive eliminated all other possibilities) I will look at Antecs next time I think.
- Other Thoughts: I would like Computer parts that last for years and are replaced because they are outdated, not broken/failed. Thats the way they used to be, but not anymore.
Best Investment
- Pros: Modular is a plus so you don't have extra cables everywhere. The cables are also sleeved which makes it look clean.
- Cons: I've had this for over a year now and haven't had any problems with it. Definitely worth the hefty price tag, because more often than not you get what you pay for.
- Other Thoughts: Bought this 5/20/08. Price actually went up a bit, but I am now using it in my i7 920 setup with 2 GTX260's in SLI and this psu still has enough power.
