An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output; find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make sure that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.
Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)
That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 600 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution). Could this be your next power supply?

Returned the First
- Pros: Great wattage, lots of connectors, huge fan. Comes with a silicon gasket for between the power supply and case to reduce noise. Pure black, for those who worry about what its going to look like.
- Cons: Returned first, one +5v rail was putting out +6.8v, causing all kinds of overheating problems. Confirmed hardware monitor with a multimeter. CPU was idling at 40-45, GPU at 70-80, replacement corrected this (and +5v rail was giving me +5.03v). It has lots of connectors, but no way to remove any, so I ended with many many connectors taped together, uselessly. The huge fan exhausts into the case, no intake on rear, so it will increase case temp significantly.
- Other Thoughts: This should almost be classed under server power supplies, as it has connections for a fully loaded full tower, and if you're running 2 HD's, a DVD, a Floppy, and using the 2 PCI-E's, you're going to be left with a LARGE bundle of unused stuff. I really suggest checking hardware monitors when you first boot after, and check voltages. Though it itself is quiet, with it producing so much heat inside the case, it is offset by the need for either more, or faster case fans. I'd go with a smaller supply, but went for recommended wattage for my new video card. Here's how I came up with my rating: +2 eggs for power, +1 egg for color, +3 eggs for variety of connections, +1 egg for 120mm fan, -2 eggs for power issues with first, -2 eggs for design issues (single fan and un-removable connectors). Total: 3 eggs.
outdated
- Pros: nice looking
- Cons: found out I couldn't use it because it only has a 4 pin cpu connector, and my mb needed and 8 pin connector. I didn't know they still made the 4 pin style. I should have had some sort of and adaptor.

work as described.
- Pros: workable for 1 graphics card and i7 OC system, pretty stable.
- Cons: some cables are not long enough to reach the connector on mobo. it happens for full atx tower case having power unit in the bottom side. I am using antec 1200, the cpu power cable is obviously way too short to go around the other side of mobo tray, so I won't be able to do any cable management on the back side...
tiz power
- Pros: -super long cords to reach anything
-two 6 pin for graphics cards -4 or 8 pin motherboard connector -enough molex (standard power) for anything you would EVER need
- Cons: -super long cords (WITH OUT Modular cables) makes a mess
- Other Thoughts: i got it cheap to free with a hard drive and a mail in rebate. works great
- Pros: Good power supply. Works well and does what it needs to for a good price.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: I highly recommend Thermaltake and Newegg.
