1 out of 5 eggsWaste of Money

Pros: Looks nice. Worked when transferring a small amount of data.

Cons: Disconnects within minutes of bigger transfers. The drive just disappears until you restart the dock.

Other Thoughts: I bought this over a year ago and it failed when I needed it. Disappointed in Thermaltake for releasing something this broken.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsSeemed So Cool

Pros: Loved it while it was working

Cons: The internal USB connector is engineered poorly.
Unplug the cable and plug it back in a few dozen times, and it will fail.

Other Thoughts: Probably OK if you don't plan on moving it around much.

1 out of 5 eggsNot an improvement

Pros: Great features, theoretically.

Cons: This is not an upgrade from the previous Duet model. That one was bad, and this one is EXACTLY THE SAME with a USB 3.0 connection. Nobody over there at Thermaltake is concerned with QC or stability, these things are still junk.

Other Thoughts: Why do I always try to think that I can get a newer model and all the bugs will be fixed? They never are. If you own Thermaltake stock, sell it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: This thing is working very well, I have been able to achieve speeds over 120MBPS with just SATA 3.0GBPS drives... so I'm having no complaints. Both drive bays are working and even older 1.5GBPS drives and laptop drives and SSD's are getting decent transfer rates..

Cons: none.

1 out of 5 eggsLook at the bad eggs number!!

Pros: Well....they did pay for my return shipping on the 2nd return of this unit.

Cons: I frequently got the message "the disk was not ejected properly......" which means it screws up in the middle of copying over files. I returned the unit at my cost and received another unit that did the same thing. After viewing my concern over the cost of shipping this back again they paid for that return. I asked them to test this third unit before shipping to me so I wouldn't have to go through this again...they did not respond. The third unit did not even acknowledge that there was a disk inserted. After much screwing around I discovered that the USB cable that came with the unit was bad. I asked them to send me a new cable...so far no response. I am currently crossing my fingers with a USB 2 cable connected. So much for fast transfer speed.

Other Thoughts: I calculated the egg values on this unit, came up with a 2.5 egg value that somehow gets bumped up to show as 3 eggs. A lot of the 1 egg values were probably zero. That makes me look at the egg values closer now.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Ugh,

We at Thermaltake apologize for the inconvenience that the PSU has caused. Please contact our customer support team and they can help you to obtain a replacement unit through our RMA process.

Thank you,

1 out of 5 eggsConstantly ejects

Pros: Decent price.

Cons: Randomly ejects all the time.

It's also quite misleading because I purchased this unit to run 2 hard drives from the 1 eSata port but it doesn't work like that (on a Mac Pro anyway). You can take advantage of running 2 HDs via the USB connection only. The eSata connection only supports 1 HD at a time. I wouldn't have purchased it at all if I had know that. I'm not thrilled about doing backups via USB2. I was tolerating it until it started to disconnect randomly too. Very disappointed. I doubt I'll purchase another Thermaltake product again.

1 out of 5 eggsTotally Untrustworthy

Pros: Nice holder for 2 drives if that's your only need.

Cons: Using a Mac with it connected via USB 2.....I frequently get the message "the disk was not ejected properly......" Sometimes it seems to work for a while but just when you start trusting it copying over data It disconnects. I just upgraded (downgraded) from OSX 10.6.8 to 10.8.4 and it's even worse. While I've been writing this it has disconnected 17 times.

Other Thoughts: Used on Mac OSX 10.6.8 & 10.8.4 connected on USB 2.

5 out of 5 eggsA+, would buy again

Pros: Work's great, good build. esata and usb 3.0 both work as advertised.
Apparently my laptops revision only lets esata recognize one drive though. No fault of the dock's. USB works 100%.

Cons: The power button is a little sticky sometimes, just feels like a cheap switch. I probably spilled coke on it, who knows, it still functions.

Other Thoughts: I would certainly buy again and have recommended this to a few friends.

3 out of 5 eggsFlimsy Plastic door

Pros: I haven't had any compatibility issues or problems with the operation of the device. I've swapped about 18 different SATA drives in it and used it to wipe the drives with Killdisk under Windows 8 Pro. Dual LED lights indicating drive activity for each disk. I haven't had any 2.5" drives to try in it yet, but suspect it would work identically. No drivers required as it's just a USB mass storage device.

Cons: After a few weeks of use, I noticed the plastic door on the HDD1 drive bay didn't close. On closer inspection, it looked like a spring was out of place. When I went to close the door, I found the problem. The plastic hinge was broken and simply fell off. For any reasonable amount of swapping of drives, these door hinges don't seem very durable at all. I'm just waiting for the second one to do the same. Not a huge deal as I just removed the door and it continues to work fine.

Other Thoughts: It does what it is supposed to, but the physical components seem cheaply made. I've noted others seem to have compatibility issues but I've not experienced any yet. This is attached to an older Dell Precision 390 and I've had hard drives from Seagate, Western Digital, Samsung and Hitachi all plugged in and running without a problem. I didn't realize at first that the HDD activity LED's are also the power button to turn on the device. It was probably in the manual but I didn't bother reading it. The eject buttons are a little hard to push, but considering I'm ejecting 3.5" hard drives, it's not unreasonable.

2 out of 5 eggsFail

Pros: When it works its OK, i bought 6 of these for my busniess.

Cons: Drops off the computer on a regular basis, USB 3.0 transfers take longer (sometimes) than USB 2.0. The files that are on the drive are not always accessible just the file name. I would not recommend this product if your in a business environment!

Other Thoughts: I bought the e-sata version of this dock and it works perfectly, i took a chance with USB 3.0 but its just not there yet.
