I need a 20 pin connection. Can this be converted to a 20 pin?

Yes. The 24-pin connector has 4 pins that are part of a separate piece which simply slides off the 24-pin if not needed.

Question 2

I need 12V @ 10A.  I only want to use the 12V plug.  Can I ignore all the others (e.g. clip-and-cap them)?  Or does it shut down or fail to regulate well if it thinks it isn't plugged into a motherboard?

This is going to be a hard question to answer definitively, because most people probably just have a bench power supply for that, like the BK 1687B, if they want on demand power. So you may not find anyone that has used this for that exact purpose. (I'm guessing you don't want to drop hundreds of dollars on this.)

That being said, many power supplies require a signal/closed circuit from the motherboard of a PC to turn on these days, but you can probably wire in a switch to the correct pins to fool it. After that it may just stay on, and you can use a multimeter to see what is supplied through the plug, if you need to be precise. Maybe that will work? It's an inexpensive enough buy to try it out.

Can this be used as a replacement for a SL-8250SFX that came as part of the APEX MI-008 case?
