An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output, find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20 A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make certain that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.
Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)
That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 650 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution). Could this be your next power supply?

Great and cheap
- Pros: Like Cooler Master other products, this power supply doesn't disappoint. I was a little hesitant to buy this at first because I had never heard of it before, but I figured it must be a solid product because it's made by CM. This is plenty of power to run my new build; Athlon 5200 X2, 2GB Patriot Extreme DDR2 800, Seagate 320Gb sata, and evga 7900gs KO. I won't have any hesitations about throwing in a 8800gtx or another 7900gs because I know it can handle it. And I got this and the blue steel Cooler Master case for one hundred and nine big ones due to a combo discount.
- Cons: Doesn't do your taxes?
Great Product
- Pros: It runs fine and is not as noisy as some people on here are saying. It moves a lot of air out of my computer.
- Cons: It wasn't free. :)
- Other Thoughts: I was skeptical because of some of the reviews, but now I am glad that I purchased.

Fix it yourself?
- Pros: Was cheap? (At least I hope it was when I bought it)
- Cons: Poorly Manufactured. Seems like they mass produced these without checking them before they went out.
- Other Thoughts: After two months, the fan started making a clicking noise whenever it was in use. It was unbearable, but I found that if you unscrew the fan grill, flip it over and screw it back in, it'd fix that issue. After 9 months, I turned off my computer after it having been on for a few weeks, and when I turned it back on, the fan made a weird chirping noise and wasn't spinning. If you're the adventurous type, open up the PSU case (voiding your warranty), flip over the fan, peel off that sticker on the back, remove the black cap, and drop 2-3 drops of a clear oil in that small hole. This will re-oil the fan and in my case got the fan working perfectly again. This probably also requires that you act quickly to prevent too much other wear on the fan. Also, I was able to get the fan spinning via pushing it prior to me doing this, but it wasn't able to start spinning on its own. Hopefully this helps someone, but use at you own discretion since this does void the warranty.
Died after 14 months
- Pros: Worked fine for 13 months
- Cons: Fan started making a lot of noise after 14 months of use. Probably a bearing going out. Lost confidence in the quality. Getting a replacement (different brand) ASAP!
Reliable
- Pros: Been running in heavy use gaming rig for almost 2 years with no problems.
- Cons: ...... not modular ;{
- Other Thoughts: would buy again.
