Cooler Master's Silent Pro RS-500-AMBA-D3 PSU is designed with the noise conscious user in mind. This 80 Plus certified unit has a rated continuous output capacity of 500W for safe and reliable computing. Not only is it an SLI certified unit, it is also compliant with ATX 12V v2.3.

The modular cable design can eliminate clutter and improve airflow inside the chassis, and the PCIe connectors (two 8-pin) have bead core protection to minimize EMI and electrical noise. The back panel is a honeycomb mesh for unrestricted air flow. The combination plus the 135mm silent fan results in the Power Supply delivers silent, cool operation and provide very high efficiency levels and low noise rating.

  • newegg ATX12V v2.3 Compatible Compatible with the ATX12V v2.3 standard, the Cooler Master RS-500-AMBA-D3 power supply provides maximum power stability to drive the latest Intel and AMD processors as well as other system components.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate on previous review

Pros: Works as advertised (so far), even though poor assembly.
One of the few PSUs that has 6 or more SATA power connections.
No need to configure voltage supply... auto selects 115V.
Modular design allows use of only cables necessary, and they are slim, so airflow restriction from cabling minimized.

Cons: Not as quiet as advertised, but tolerable. IDE cables provided not of any use, need more SATA. No provision to specifiy cabling on ordering. Must special order additional SATA cables.

Other Thoughts: Installed this PSU in my Lian Li case. Tight fit, could not install exterior end silicone vibration dampner. Could only install interior dampner, however do not feel it is really necessary anyway.
Minimum supply of power cables... could use more as not all cables supplied are useful. Need more of the kind I use.
Only one big fan to exhaust heat, but it seems big enough to do the job. My old Enermax had two smaller fans... this one big fan should use less watts than a pull-push set... and less moving parts (better MTBF?)
This PSU powering Intel DQ45CB w/ C2Quad9550, 3 HDDs, DVD RW.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor assembly

Pros: This product meets my specifications.

Cons: Poor assembly. Looking at the PSU from the top with the power switch near and the cable end far, the top left corner of my unit has a gap of about a quarter inch. the bottom left corner has a quarter inch bulge. It appears to have been jammed together during assembly. It appears to have the top rotated counter clockwise about 1 degree. This is not good. NewEgg says it will authorize an RMA if I insist, but I have elected to attempt to install it and use it because it is holding up assembly of a desparately needed system for my business and I can't afford the wait for a replacement. I just hope it works.

5 out of 5 eggsExcelllent PSU for Small Form Factor

Pros: - Modular Design
- Cable Length excellent for a small system
- Rubber covers to reduce noise
- QUIET, I could barely hear the PSU (I had to put my ear next to it to hear it!)
- Single Rail Design
- Japanese Capacitors
- 80 Plus efficiency
- Excellent voltage regulation as reported by JohnnyGuru

Packaging is very nice, you could see quality of the PSU just by looking at it.

Cons: - None!

Other Thoughts: I used this to replace the stock PSU from a Apevia case and it worked great and fixed all the stability issues with it! Excellent voltage regulation at 12.01 volts reported by a external PSU testing unit.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for HTPC

Pros: Very quiet and modular so you don't have too many wires obstructing the air flow in your case.

Cons: A little pricey but I believe you shouldn't skimp on quality when it comes to your PSU.

Other Thoughts: Despite the price I would recommend this product.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Stays quiet. The big 135mm fan blows for about three seconds every once and awhile but I never hear any noise besides that. Modular design removes cables you might never use. Single 12V rail is the way to go.

Cons: No problems yet.

4 out of 5 eggsCOOLER MASTER Silent Pro M

Pros: The COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M series power supplies feature a single +12v rail, modular cable design, very silent and cool operation, and very high efficiency levels (over 85%).

Cons: Overpriced, especially when considering this PSU only has 34A on the +12v rail line. A GTX 260 may be too much for this unit.

Other Thoughts: I recommend the COOLER MASTER Real Power Pro and Ultimate Circuit Protection series. The Real Power Pro 550W PSU can be found for cheaper than the Silent Pro M 500W, and it has more amperage on the +12v line (it has 57A across three +12v rails). The Silent Pro M series is meant for those who have small cases and need modular PSU's. If that is you, this is a good PSU to consider.
