2 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD400-2-SB 400W ATX 12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: I got it for $20

Cons: There are no receiving threads for the PSU mounting screws. It literally just sits in my case with no way to mount it to the case.
In other words my case is freeballing my psu.
This is made worse by the first issue, but the connection either in the inlet of the psu or in the cable they shipped it with is nearly non existent. If I bump the cord/psu at all when moving the computer dies due faulty connections in the psu/wire.

Other Thoughts: I can't say I expected better TBH. I bought it for my media PC hooked up to my TV so bumping it isn't too big of a problem as it sits in a corner with a wireless mouse/keyboard connection.
The real problem is that even though I bought a cheap power supply quality shouldn't be a lacking feature due to price, features and capabilities should. It's this business model that makes or breaks some companies like this. Yes you can make something cheap, but if you can make it reliably cheap with lacking better features for premium power supplies then you're doing it right., but to sacrafice quality as a simple "who cares it's a $20 PSU" is not the way to go.

1 out of 5 eggsCheap clips, dont buy

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD400-2-SB 400W ATX 12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: N/A when giving it a 1 star rating

Cons: I went through 2 of these, and on both the sata clips broke off when trying to connect them to harddrives / DVD drive. With the first one, it broke beyond fixing so I returned to newegg. The second broke off and I thought it was usable so I attempted to super glue it in place, which was a mistake because doing so did nothing, and also ruined the DVD drive I connected it to.
I did not know it ruined the DVD drive until after the 30 day return policy with newegg, so now I cannot return the power supply or DVD drive.
There are 4 sata clips, I needed all 4 to work, since 1 failed, this power supply does not work for me. A second sata clip broke disconnecting this power supply from the remaining sata device.
The clips are cheap, don't waste your time, patients or money on this power supply.

1 out of 5 eggsRosewill 400w psu

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD400-2-SB 400W ATX 12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: there arent many but the only ones i can think of are its cheap and they wrapped the cables.

Cons: well, i had this PSU for less than a day it was in my system for about 3-4 hours and i was doing some very very light gaming (minecraft) and it just shutoff and wont boot my system i even let it sit over night and still nothing.

Other Thoughts: DO NOT GET THIS FOR A GAMING RIG. I was dumb to get it for what i needed. i recomend getting 80+ bronze atleast for gaming.

5 out of 5 eggsbasic, but quality

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD400-2-SB 400W ATX 12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: Lots of leads for SATA, has a seperate lead for Molex if you still need it.
Has PCI express 6-pin connector for moderate power video cards, an 8-pin and a 4-pin CPU connectors.
Snakeskin on all of the cables is a plus, not necessary but nice.
Every cable is long enough. for the Mini Micro ATX system it went in, I could see how it would fit an ATX mid tower, but perhaps not an ATX full tower with a bottom mounted PSU to reach up to the disc drive.
I have roughly 40 6 foot power cables, but it came with one anyway.
lightweight, but not in a cheap junk kind of way.
Big fan. helps keep the whole case cool, but especially the PSU.

Cons: I believe the fan is a sleeve bearing, due to how quiet it is. I can't be for sure since I can't open the case up while the user has it.

WARNING: I had the power switch get stuck in the on (I) position for roughly 5 minutes. I was doing some work adding stuff to the MoBo and instead of unplugging it, I just flipped the switch to off, but it wouldn't stay flipped. No matter what I did to flip it off, it wouldn't. Finally, I got it to switch back, but I'm not sure of the quality of the power switch. I just hope it doesn't get stuck off sometime. I did not deduct an egg for it, but it scared me.

Other Thoughts: I will not buy a cheap power supply. I set my requirements to active PFC to elliminate the cheap junk out there. Most of the time I buy Seasonic's 350 watt, or Antec's Earthwatts 400 watt. This does just as well, but I only picked it because I found it on sale. I'd see it still worth full price though.

It is only powering a DVD drive, a hard drive, a 65 Watt processor and a discrete video card. I didn't test it on my kill-a-watt, but I couldn't see how it ever pulls more than 100 watts for the user. He's got lots of room for expantion. I'd like to see more power supplies at lower wattages for more power savings; perhaps a 250 watt 80+gold would be nice to see. I'd spend just as much on a lower watt model if it meant saving energy.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for my HTPC

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD400-2-SB 400W ATX 12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: -Sufficient power for my HTPC (Core 2 Duo E7300; 4 gigs of 800Mhz DDR2; 9600GT; Asus sound card)
-I got mine very cheap, $10 Rebate plus a $10 promo code brought the price down to $19.99 :).
-Good assortment of cables.

Cons: The 20+4 pin connector wouldn't fit easily into the mobo. I had to push it quite firmly before it went in all the way. The mobo bent a little under the pressure, but no damage was done. i needed the 4 pin CPU power and not the 8 pin, the two connectors are attached and the extra connector that you don't use can be difficult to manage.

Other Thoughts: Bought this power supply to replace the 300W supply that came with an old windows 7 miniATX Acer. Either the supply went bad or it was unable to supply enough power to the 9600GT I'm using. In either case, this rosewill psu was a perfect match for my HTPC.

5 out of 5 eggsworks good

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD400-2-SB 400W ATX 12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: easy to install ... cables are manageable ... literally took 10 mins to take old one out and plug in new one.

Cons: was missing mounting screws but I had extras laying around.

Other Thoughts: mine is driving a g645, 8gb RAM, 500gb HD, and a HD 7770 very easily.

4 out of 5 eggsPlenty good....SO FAR.

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD400-2-SB 400W ATX 12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: Appears to supply power to the computer in the appropriate voltages (well, see "other thoughts"). :)

Though non-modular, the cables/etc are nice-looking, and are not a cacophony of annoying bare wires and colors.

I hear absolutely no fan noise, or any other noises. At least, if there ARE any noises, they are way under the ambient level induced by the CPU fan on at minimum speed. 100% fine with the overall aspects of this unit.

Cons: Well, the cons are mostly the fact that reading the other reviews is making me nervous. I feel like that even though it's working fine, and appears to be a good PSU, everyone else was also lulled into a sense of false security...I wonder if they're not pushing on their PSU too hard though. I'm barely drawing 40% of the rated power.

But so far, that con is not realized, and I hope it never is.

Other Thoughts: All of my voltages on my unit are within the acceptable window---but BARELY so. I've got, for example, a 12v that is definitely pushing it on the hot side, a 3.3V that is definitely pushing it. And not by a little. Literally, if these were even slightly more voltage, it would be outside of the normally acceptable (not some ridiculous perfectionist nerd-acceptable) range.

So like I said, definitely pushing it on some of the rails. And when you peek inside, you see the design is very, very minimal.

But like I said, everything is acceptable. It looks fine on an oscilloscope. I'm OK with it, and feel like I got a decent value, if it lasts. I'd buy it again.

5 out of 5 eggsLow end office PSU

This review is from: Rosewill Stallion Series RD400-2-SB 400W ATX 12V v2.2 Power Supply

Pros: Matched the case's back side perfectly.

Cons: 400w and two 12v rails a little worrying. I'd rather have all 27A on one rail.

Other Thoughts: I am guessing this power supply is not taxed at all. I bought this for a build that only has an ITX board with a dual core 2.5ghz FM1 proc, SSD, 4Gb of DDR3, and single 120mm case fan.
