5 out of 5 eggsSolid, well cooled, average transfer speeds

Pros: It is generally well built & well cooled, & works with Win8-64.

Cons: The fan can be noisy & shiny finish shows dust/fingerprints.

Other Thoughts: This case is well built & has plenty of cooling but at full speed the fan is a bit noisy. But it can properly cool my drive at about one-third speed at which it sounds very reasonable.

I don't really care for the shiny black finish used on all the plastics because it really shows fingerprints & dust, but this is just a personal preference.

The power supply seems well sized and runs cool to the touch even after hours of operation. The power supply is listed in the manual as having a fuse, over-current protection, over-voltage protection, and short circuit protection.

The cradle is awesome, just the right size with a very firm stance.

I used the drive with both my native Intel USB2.0 ports & my onboard Marvell USB3.0 ports & the transfer rates where almost the same, a swing between 13.5MB/s and 23.0MB/s. The average on small files was about 17.5MB/s & on larger files it was around 21.5MB/s. I consider this to be an average speed for a UBS2.0 external drive.

The drive showed up in Windows 8-64bit with no issues, but the first time I connected it I had to go into disk management & manually assign it a drive letter. Not really big deal but some novice users may need some help with this.

I can't speak to the longivity of the unit as I have only had it a short time, but it generally looks & feels like a quality item.

Overall, I would buy it again & I would recommend it to a friend.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well with my older hard drive

Pros: It works, the fan seems unnecessary, but is a good feature. I now have all of my old pictures and files from my previous desktop. Turned it into the backup to my backup.

Cons: Nada

4 out of 5 eggsGood price for a fan cooled enclosure

Pros: I have always been a fan of external enclosures, as they allow me to breathe new life into an old or unused internal 3.5 hard drive. This external enclosure by Rosewill is a good pick for the price. I like the fact that the fan is optional, which in my case, I chose to keep it intact. The fan speed control is a nice add-on, that I would not have generally expected for the price of this unit. Hard drive installation was a breeze.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Overall, a nice cooled external enclosure for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsRosewill IDE extern enclosure

Pros: It works well; has a fan. Good for re-purposing an IDE hdd when the old machine is replaced. I buy this model when a customer upgrades and their IDE drive still works.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: This is for the reviewer with the unrecognized hdd: chances are the case is OK and the old drive carped out ;^). After all, most IDE drives out there are old. OTOH,... try reseating the drive in the case.

1 out of 5 eggsAfter a couple of months

Pros: Cheap, good looking, IDE

Cons: Component inside case that powers the drive is faulty.

Other Thoughts: After a few months light and fan still had power but drive no longer recognized by USB ports. After dis assembly and a power to the drive test I have determined the wires inside the case that bring power to the drive are shorted.

4 out of 5 eggsExternal Enclousure

Pros: looks nice, for the price i think is a very good deal

Cons: the power supply is not enough power, at first use everthing looks normal but at the time i start copyng files, was taking forever, say about 700mb movie , normal take less than 2 min. to copy , well on this was taking over 20 min. i use ohter hard drives thinking may be the problem but still the same, i find a laptop power supply and now works perfect, the power supply that came with it is very small

4 out of 5 eggsPreatty good

Pros: The enclosure is great. I don't think that I will every have to worry about and old IDE drive over heating, The fan combined with the aluminum case works amazing.

Cons: I wish you could remove the 80mm fan from within the kit. I have an old 80mm Blue LED fan that would look awesome in the fan housing. Also the fan kit has little plastic clips that hold it to the drive. First time i took it off one clip broke.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy setup, plug and play. Had it running for over a couple weeks straight without any issue.

Cons: This bore the bad news about the death of the hard drive I intended to use with it. Not its fault, of course. Said drive was almost 9 years old, it was bound to happen.
