3 out of 5 eggsEagle Consus

Pros: I love the design and feel of the case. Very light weight and very sturdy structure. Light is pretty cool. Pretty good price. Very simple installation (Five Screws).

Cons: I had to use two pieces of foam to insulated the drive from hitting the sides. My USB port on the enclosure suddenly stopped working. The power cable also is very loose when connecting to the enclosure making it very easy to yank the power cord from the enclosure if your trying to move it around.

Other Thoughts: Other than the problems with the plug ins. This enclosure does its purpose in providing use for an old hard driver laying around.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective: both of mine failed

Pros: Cheaper than Rosewill

Cons: I bought two in 2008. Both have failed since then. At first what happens is that the laptop docking station wont recognize a drive in these, so you have to plug it direct into the laptop. After awhile, the laptop and desktop stop seeing drive in these altogether.

So, I am 0 for 2 with these. Each failed within 18 months.

Stay away!

Other Thoughts: The Rosewill cases have much better ventilation and fans. They are solid; I have 7 of them and none have failed.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Satisfied

Pros: A nice looking enclosure and transfer rate over eSATA has been fast and reliable.

Cons: Heat dissipation is very poor and disassembly/assembly is a bit annoying.

Other Thoughts: The outside of the enclosure never got too hot when using it, though I never had the drive on for more than 20 or 30 minutes at a time. When I decided to replace the drive I had initially installed in it I noticed how hot the drive was really getting after only running it for 15 minutes before taking it out. Kind of scary, actually. I am still going to use the enclosure, but really make sure that it is still for smaller increments of time.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have 8 of these enclosures with seagate 2 TB HD'S in them with movie collections and music...yes 16 tb of storage filled up almost ...its all hooked up to a media center which is networked and none of them have had any transfer problems.

Cons: ESata is buggy every now (once its hooked up don't move it) transfers at around 131megs a sec which i think should be better but im not sure if the drives can do any better

4 out of 5 eggsdecent

Pros: convenient positioning of the power and SATA connectors so you only have to push the drive in,

Cons: doesn't seem well ventilated; only one side has vents. some sort of ventilation on the top could do wonders.

Other Thoughts: as a SATA only enclosure, it's good. but i found myself needing an IDE interface recently and had to buy another enclosure.

3 out of 5 eggsLooks good, but 3 screws to get a drive in?

Pros: Looks pretty nice, good if you had to stare at it alot/put it in a more public place.
Blue LED not *quite* as bad/bright/tacky as the picture seems.
Stays pretty cool to the touch / no fan so silent.

Cons: Power transformer is now a big wart that will take up lots of space on your power strip.
At least 3 screws to get a drive in/out - I much prefer the 'tool-less' cases, but if you won't be swapping drives in and out alot, not a huge deal.
Because it's a "Tray" type it's a little bigger than some of my other external drive cases... not a lot, just an little longer/wider.

Other Thoughts: Honestly, I probably won't buy another one, I've had smaller ones (by the same company, but they no longer make) that are easier to get drives in/out of that are just as good. I'll find another one of those next time around.

3 out of 5 eggsPoor design compared to some others

Pros: Lots of room around your drive. Big Blue Light.

Cons: The case is split completely down the middle above the light tape. The drives main housing doe's not get secure enough to the split housing., thus allowing the front face to be able to pop out at the top. The fastener design in bleek!
The case is much larger than needed.

Other Thoughts: This case came with the Eagle 750 external drive I purchased from newegg. The esata hookup failed to work, but the usb did work. I always thought it was the case but it wasn't. it was the wl750 model drive(very unknown drive) it only could be seen in a case and using usb. It would post in bios but never in windows.

3 out of 5 eggsNice but mounting problems in linux

Pros: Seems to be a nice sturdy enclosure, internal caddy is plastic but seems strong and overall constructed well. Works fine in xp and win7.

Cons: Not sure why but it will not mount from boot or suspend on ubuntu 9.10. Mounts fine if plugged in once the os is up and running. Blue led are a little too bright for my tastes.

Other Thoughts: Wish it worked for me in linux, all my other enclosures have no problems.

5 out of 5 eggsFOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS !

Pros: This enclosure arrived at my door quickly (Thx Newegg), it was packaged very well. Nicely designed, installing drive is a very simple process (1 Philips head screw), LED lit base is a nice touch (looks great). Esata transfer speed great improvement over USB. Fan-less design is (as you would expect) quiet. My PC case has a 120mm fan in the top which blows air across the external enclosure , I'm sure this helps cool it, but I've never had a cooling problem with Eagle enclosures regardless.

Cons: Not a con worth removing an egg, but more of a suggestion, I would like to see a push-button switch on the front face of the enclosure (much like that on most PC cases) for turning power on and off. Beyond that, no cons so far.

Other Thoughts: I can't help thinking that some of the bad reviews are due to owners not reading the instructions. You can't simply slap a sata drive in this guy and expect it to run properly. The drive must be initialized, formated, and assigned a drive letter. Take the time to read the instructions that came with the enclosure and you will save yourself allot of headaches !
