5 out of 5 eggsWorks as expected

Pros: The enclosure feels sturdy. Installing the drive was straightforward. Everything was auto-detected and worked perfectly on the first try, even on my Debian Linux machine. Being fanless, it runs very quietly (which is the primary reason I chose this enclosure).

Cons: To install the drive into the enclosure, you need to use the screws that come with the enclosure, not the ones that come with your drive (as they are not long enough). This wasn't obvious when I first started.

Also, make sure to put the included "foam stickers" on the stand, in order to keep the drive from slipping out easily.

5 out of 5 eggsO is for "Outstanding."

Pros: This enclosure is excellent. It is easy to use, surprisingly rugged, and features exceptional cooling capabilities. Its wire mesh is of superb quality, allowing for great ventilation. If you're looking for a bottom-line USB 2.0 3.5" enclosure, buy this one.

Cons: The foot likes to slide off, but that's no big deal.

5 out of 5 eggsNice no frills fan-less case

Pros: fan-less, mesh housing, works great

Cons: USB cable is on the short side

Other Thoughts: works great, no problems at all. Can't beat the price for a simple external drive case.

5 out of 5 eggsNice case for that spare hard drive

Pros: Just upgraded the hard drive in my workstation to a 1TB so I now have a spare 640MB SATA drive. I have a MacBook Pro and I figured that I might as well start using the Time Machine backup program. I already owed a nice Rosewill enclosure with a 1TB WD Green STATA drive that I am using with my WD HD TV Live and have been very happy with the enclosure, but I decided to buy a different enclosure so I would not confuse the two. This turned out to be a great solution because it doesn't look at all like the Rosewill and works just as well. The AC adapter is also small (looks like the new Linksys router AC adapters) and the documentation is brief, but well written.

Cons: Had to think about this for a while. The only con that I found was this product uses both Philips and flat head screws. You'll need a flat head screw driver to remove the side panels and then a Philips head to attach the drive to the case. This certainly isn't a big reason not to buy this product, but it begs the question, why not be like most manufacturers and use Philips head screws for the whole unit?

Other Thoughts: Would buy again and recommend to others. You can't go wrong with this enclosure.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with 2TB Hard Drives

Pros: This enclosure has very good airflow, with only a wire mesh separating the drive from the rest of the world. I think it looks OK, without any particularly annoying LED lights, except for one moderately bright power light.

Cons: First and foremost, Eagle Tech's enclosures don't work with 2TB drives. At least, not Western Digital 2TB green drives. I have two of these Eagle Tech enclosures, and one older model, and none of them work with my 2TB drives (despite this enclosure claiming 2TB support on the box and on the Eagle Tech website). Other SATA hard drive enclosures work fine with my 2TB drives.

Second, the design is pretty annoying. It's a lot of effort to swap drives, as you have to remote a total of 12 screws. The wire mesh sides are also a little finicky to remote and put back on, as they fit pretty tight. This isn't such a big deal if you don't plan on swapping drives very often.

Third, because the sides are just a wire mesh, the they don't block the sound at all. That's fine if you have a quiet hard drive in here (like the WD Caviar Green drives), but a 7200RPM in one of these is pretty loud.

Other Thoughts: I've tried to contact Eagle Tech but did not get a response. I've gotten drive enclosures from Eagle Tech before, and never had any problems with them, but this experience is enough to keep me away from them in the future.
