5 out of 5 eggs5 years, still going strong

Pros: This PSU has an aura of quality. Silverstone's attention to detail has yielded a power supply that is still quietly delivering watt after watt of DC power. It has a build quality that's rarely seen in commodity hardware. It's been 5 years (purchased in 2007; peak loads is ~250watts), not a whimper or a hit of a failing fan, capacitor, or any other element in the device. I hope Silverstone's current generation of PSU still possess these qualities.

Cons: Expensive compared to commodity PSUs. At $90 in 2007, it was a considerable price premium over other commonly recommended PSUs.

5 out of 5 eggsBUY IT

Pros: 80 plus efficency. They also make a Short Cable Edition. That is the one I have. This powersupply gets about 86% efficiency. Great for SFF PC or regular PC. Great Value for your dollar

VERY QUIET, I can't even tell it's on.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Wish they made this in a modular short cable version. I'd like to pick and choose the cables I want.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed after 14 months

Pros: Appears well constructed, ran quietly, cabling is well organized

Cons: It failed on me after 14 months. I used it with zero problems in an always-on HTPC, set to sleep after being idle for some period of time. I always had it plugged into an APC UPS when in use. One day, I went to use it, and noticed that the PC had turned off. I attempted to turn it back on but couldn't. After checking the power cord, etc. I concluded that the power supply had failed. Some testing with a volt-meter seems to have confirmed it.

5 out of 5 eggsA solid choice

Pros: Runs quiet and does it's job. I've been using mine for over a year, and it works great. Still quiet, even with all the cat hair that I keep cleaning out of my case.

Cons: None!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Power Supply

Pros: Very good build quality. Lot of connectors of various types. Two 12V rails with a combined 36 amp output! A great value for the money.

Cons: Not a con, but all the extra connectors mean you have to do a lot of cable management.

1 out of 5 eggsmelted wires

Pros: Nice cables, looks good

Cons: After using this for about a month, I noticed that two of my case fans stopped working. When I took a look to see what was going on, I noticed that a bunch of wires inside the power supply were melted all over some of the metal parts inside the power supply casing. The system will still turn on and seems to run fine (aside from my fans), but there's no way I'm going to continue using this with melted wires.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a power supply. Please make sure to contact our US office directly for a replacement if there is a defect. Your model is still under warranty. Below is a link to our contact information:

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Plenty of cables, quite heavy unit, ran cool running a C2D system in a mid-tower case at full load, and voltages were well-within specs and stable using a DMM. 80-plus certified for higher efficiency.

Cons: Other than the lack of fully-sleeved cabling, none that I can see.

Other Thoughts: Bought this PSU for a customer's machine. It's currently running an e6600 at 3ghz, an 8800GS, a couple hard drives and several fans without issue. The customer's 12-year old son is happily playing Age of Conan on it now, the customer's happy, and therefore I'm happy. Not as beefy as my Silverstone OP650 PSU, but for the system it's running it doesn't need to be.
