The ST85F from Silverstone deliver 850W of power to your system so you have plenty of juice for gaming, file-serving or both. The dual +12V rails provide a balanced output. An Active PFC and >80% efficiency ensure minimal power waste which keeps the PSU cool.
The power connectors are fully modular. This lets you use only the connections you need. There is a handy carry bag for the extra cables, so they’ll still be around when you upgrade. The cables are all sheathed to de-clutter the inside of the case, enhancing airflow.
It is CrossFire X Certified with 4x6-pin and 2x8-pin PCIe connectors. There are also 6 SATA connectors for all of your high speed drives. The cables are partially mesh sleeved to increase air flow and to make management easier.

4 week review
- Pros: great power....gigabyte M59SLI-S5 mobo, amd 5200+ 2.6Ghz clocked to 2.85Ghz @ 1.4V, 8800 GTS not clocked yet and kept but played with ntune and didnot get unstable and crash until 3750Mhz ...that was a 50% OC as it started at 2500 Mhz. 4G corsair xms 6400C4 set factory OC recommend 2.1V vs 1.8 JEDEC default. Fans = 3-120mm, 2-90mm, thermaltake TMG A1 cpu cooler, 1 Tt memory cooler, 2 X 250G raid 0, DVD, FDD. all running VERY stable. as for those getting power error msg with the 8800GTX see if your mobo has a 4 pin molex connector tagged for PCIe 12V, mine does and it would probably solve your problem, that what it's there for.
- Cons: none...ya know some people really should check things out ..in reply to NOT THRILLED...case in point from your test...ALL of those 12 volt reading are WELL WITHIN +12V range..12 volt DOES NOT mean that it will supply 12 volts at all times...check manufac spec MOST ALL specs for +12v is 12V + or - up to 5% in the case of this particular PS the spec is 12V +5/-4 which means the PS will supply power on the 12 volt rail within -4% to +5% of 12V which equals 11.52 - 12.60 volts and that is the operating range of the +12V rail so your disappointment with 11.71V is really not valid,
- Other Thoughts: 11.84V on the 4 pin at IDLE is actually pretty much EXACTLY where it should be, try testing at FULL LOAD and i'll bet you see that 11.84 jump to something like 12.25 (point is, the item and PS will only use/supply what is NEEDED, if it doesn't need 12+ volts to idle then it won't take them) another thing to consider here is if your that concerned with it dropping to 11.71 THEN STAY AWAY FROM MODULAR CABLING, modular cabling creates 1 more connection in the power scheme which INCREASES resistence and therfore will leave wide open the possibility of a +12V rail dropping to its low in range as well as make it harder to deliver it's max range voltage, ANY modular cabling PS will have the same problem. then again if PS did infact supply 12 volts at all times (impossible cuz power fluxuates regardless!!) people would groan cuz the power bill went up a little, so look at it this way over the course of a year that 11.84 vs 12v will save a few bucks on your power bill.
Great power at a great price!
- Pros: Silverstone has done it first - offering a great power supply at an affordable price. I upgraded from the old ST60F (600 watt) to the new ST85F. I needed a new power supply that would give enough power for the next-gen of graphics cards; both the nVidia 8800 & 8900 series and AMD/ATI's new R600 series. The new PCI-E 8-pin power connector is coming out soon and the ST85F comes equipped with two of them! I plan to upgrade next month to either the R600XTX or 8900GTX. For now, here's my current setup:
AMD Athlon 64 4600+ (OC'd to 2.6ghz) 2GB (2 x 1GB) OCZ PC4000 DDR 2 x nVidia 7900GTXs in SLI 2 x WD Raptors in RAID 0 2 x Seagate 320GB SATAII HDDs w/NCQ in JBOD 4 x 120mm fans 1 x Danger Den 12V MAG waterpump
- Cons: Silverstone decided to get rid of the adjustable pots (for fine-tuning voltages). Too bad as my ST60F had this feature. Also, internal packaging could be better as no styrofoam was used to protect the unit against impacts. Thanks to newegg for outstanding packing as always which protected my PSU during UPS shipping from Cali to Colorado.
- Other Thoughts: I disagree with the initial Neoseeker hardware review saying it was a downgrade for Silverstone to go with two 12V rails instead of sticking with four 12V rails. The PC Power & Cooling company has been using SINGLE 12V rails for years and are one of the top rated power supply makers out there. Going to two 12V rails @ 35A/each ensures overloading won't occur versus four 12V rails @ 18A/each. Today's high-end cards need power and Silverstone's new ST85F delivers at an affordable price!

Do not buy
- Pros: Removable cables.
Come with a booklet of detailed specifications
- Cons: Failed under load.
Turned on fine with my server (2 dual-core 3.2GHz AMD 2224SE CPUs), but shuts down when I load tested the system
Does the same in a workstation with 1 AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz and 1/4 of the memory.
Replaced with OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS 600W and everything works fine.

Just What I Needed
- Pros: Does what it says it does. Im running this with a 800W power need and I have not had any indication that I am lacking in power. Thats a 94% reliability. Im impressed.
Modular power is a godsend. Should be a requirement for all PSU's.
Big fan is silent.
- Cons: Works as advertised, as in no cons.
- Other Thoughts: Make sure you have a case with a vent right above the PSU mounting position. Else, you need to mount this upside down with the fan pulling air away from the CPU, air that is most likely heated assuring a decreased reliability.
Ive always been a fan of Silverstone's PSU's.
High quality
- Pros: Quiet, yet robust. From the housing, cables, and connectors - this PSU exudes quality. At 850w, it provides plenty of power, efficiently for my gaming needs.
- Cons: None, thus far.
- Other Thoughts: I was told by peers that I spent too much on this, however, I disagree until this PSU craps out, which I highly doubt will happen. I believe this PSU will last longer than its less expensive competitor.
