4 out of 5 eggsSolid. But 3TB support is indeed only "partial".

Pros: This enclosure almost has it all:
1. Two slots.
2. Has reliable USB3. (I've had problems with multiple other products having unstable USB3.)
3. Supports 3TB drives.*

The enclosure itself is very sleek. It's very easy to open up and install/remove drives.

Cons: *I'm writing this primarily to confirm the 3TB issue from a previous reviewer.

Here are the primary symptoms:
1. A 3TB drive formatted elsewhere and placed in this enclosure is recognized as not formatted.
2. A 3TB drive formatted in this enclosure and placed elsewhere is recognized as not formatted.

Other observations:
1. A 3TB drive formatted elsewhere and place in this enclosure does not corrupt the data as long as the drive is not written to.
2. The reverse is also true. An 3TB drive formatted in this enclosure and moved elsewhere does not corrupt the data. Plugging it back in this enclosure and rehashing all the data shows that the data is intact.
3. 3TB drives formatted in this enclosure can be moved to different slots (switched) and still be recognized and readable.

So basically, you can't put an existing (formatted) 3TB drive into this enclosure. Likewise, you can't pull a 3TB drive out and expect it to work elsewhere. They are essentially two separate worlds.

If the enclosure fails, you data is lost unless you purchase an identical unit.

Aside from that, the fan is very noticeable in a quiet room - as is the case with all other dual-slot enclosures with fans that I've owned.

Other Thoughts: Aside from this compatibility issue, 3TB support is complete. If you don't intend to move drives around, this enclosure is perfect.

(Slightly a shame since it's so easy to install/remove the drives.)

My guess is that the controller doesn't correctly conform to the standard data format for >2TB drives. So it's works fine internally, but is incompatible with everyone else.

There also appears to be a power-saving mode that spins down the HDs and shuts off the fan. So while it silences the fan, it also adds a bit of lag time to access files when the device is in power-save mode since it needs to spin up the drives.

5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: Easy setup. Had it up and running within minutes. Directions easy to follow.
Two bay, supports RAID.
FAST. I have two 3TB Seagate drives in it with RAID 1. Read/write speeds around 170mb/s. Insane performance! Wrote/read my Battlefield 3 folder, about 27GB, in about 5 minutes.

Cons: None. Little expensive but it's worth it.

Other Thoughts: If you have a need for RAID but don't want to spend the money on a NAS, this is the best choice.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple USB 3.0 RAID enclosure

Pros: Inexpensive
Simple dip switches and press a button to set RAID level
USB 3.0

Cons: Fitment of front is a little off
Airflow noise through front is noticeable

Other Thoughts: Getting the front off to install the disks was easy; getting it to line up and latch closed properly, not so much. It just took some finagling but I was afraid of breaking something.

The fan doesn't make much noise at all, but the air it draws through the front panel certainly makes some noise. Not loud enough to be a bother unless you're working right beside it.

For what it is, it's a great product for the money. I dropped 2 x 2tb Seagate LP drives in and it set up the RAID 1 in a heartbeat. I set it all up on my Win7 laptop and then plugged it into the USB port on my router for a quick NAS.

4 out of 5 eggsGood enclosure

Pros: worked straight out of the box. Very compact.

Cons: pretty noisy, not in a bad way but theres no damper between HDDs and casing. between that and the fan you kinda get a low frequency droning from the thing.

Other Thoughts: couldn't find a better enclosure for the price and it works as its supposed to.

1 out of 5 eggsnot impressed

Pros: Luckily my unit has very very quite fan (yes it's working i checked) USB cable and power cable is long enough. very compact.

Cons: the hard drive fits easily but it lives little space on side not big problem as i'm not moving it a lot. Transfer speed is very bad.
1. Copy from HDD1 to HDD2 is about 10MB/s (not big problem)
2. Copy from internal HDD to HDD in silverstone case is about 40MB/s
3. Copy from external HDD to HDD in silverstone case is about 25 MB/s

Other Thoughts: i got this enclosure for it's speed, so i can transfer this from other HDD to HDD in here fast, but it's not, my usb 2.0 enclosure gives me 30 MB/s speed, (from external and internal) so this is just going to be my back up enclosure and i'll have to go buy another one for good speed.

Do let me know if someone can figure out way to speed up data transfer.

3 out of 5 eggsUp to 3TB? Nope... Be CAREFUL.

Pros: This is simple. It's not about the product overall, because it's actually a pretty decent enclosure. The isn't too loud and the set-up was very easy. I have not messed with the RAID settings yet, so I can't comment. But, enclosure performs easily in JBOD. USB 3.0 seems to work without a hitch.

Cons: For the BIG bad. I bought this enclosure to house two 3TB hard drives. I plugged them in, they booted right up. I initialized the disks and formatted the partition. Decided to try some transfers and test speeds. This is what made me decide to unplug the drive and install it in the internal SATA control to do a real speed comparison with USB 3 and internal SATA.

How upset I was when I booted up and the disk wasn't initialized. I formatted the drive again in case I made some kind of user error and tried some transfers. When I moved the HD back over to the enclosure...Guess what -- not there.

So, I spoke with customer service which I would rate pretty decent. I got my response within a few days after I called since they were unaware of this problem and tech support had to search it. And, then I was told it won't work. The enclosure isn't meant for 3TB.

Other Thoughts: Think about this. If you use the drive in the enclosure and you need to move it somewhere else (for instance to replace the enclosure), your data is going to disappear.

This review is my warning about 3TB drives and the enclosure. The rest, I'm pretty satisfied with.

5 out of 5 eggsWow ok that was easier than expected!...

Pros: Absolutely fit my needs. I had two 3TB HDDs that I couldn't run raid AND boot Windows 7 off of, so I put an SSD in there and needed an external enclosure for these Seagate Barracuda beasts! So I got it today in the mail, slid them in very easy and securely, and plugged it in. The setup was a breeze. You go into your control panel and computer management to setup the disk partitions, and on the back of the unit you just flip the switch (read manual) and you are in Raid. The case is elegant and small, and the LED lights are nice but not insanely bright...just right. USB 3.0 is a BIG plus, and has it's own fan.

Cons: I don't have any. I mean I guess maybe I wish it was insulated so it was slightly quieter but I am being so darn picky. Plus I like the slim design.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommended! So simple a caveman could do it! Looks great, works great, and fits your needs!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, fast, simple drive...

Pros: Small case, small power supply, easy drive loading. I was able to get it up and running with a couple of 3 Tb drives in less than 10 minutes. Using USB 3.0 and SATA 6.0 drives I'm able to get an average transfer rate of ~ 150MB/s in a RAID1 configuration.

Cons: None so far...

4 out of 5 eggsGood X-HDD Enclosure but they cut a few corners

Pros: - Very attractive design.
- USB 3.0 = FAST!
- RAID 0/1 Support
- Has Kingston security lock!!!
- Comes with short USB 3.0 cable so be prepared to buy a 2 meter one (Come on you guys, isn't it about time we switched over to the metric system?)

Cons: - LOUD FAN!!! Its as loud as a sub-par desktop. It should be easy to replace though... the case is easy to take apart. A good fan cost about $10.
- No eSATA (This would have raised the price though).
- Hing that hold on front panel is thin plastic. One good knock would break it and the front slides off.

Other Thoughts: I really wish I had been able to afford a QNAP or Synology NAS... those are ideal, but $120 more. I'm just happy I have a RAID redundant backup. I keep all of my most important files in SkyDrive and dropbox (If you have used them then check them out!) so this is just an extra precaution for my non-work related stuff. I haven't tried disabling the fan. I have Seagate Green HDDs so they run cooler. I will probably end up trying that. Over all, I'd say if the cons I listed don't irritate you then buy it.
