so-so
- Pros: Very quiet...when it's not buzzing.
No problems with power being delivered to the system. Looks and feels sturdy. Worked fine for about 6 months of use, until this buzzing started.
- Cons: I have this installed in a HTPC system running MythTV, so it's in my living room. After being powered on for about 10 minutes, the power supply starts to make a loud buzzing noise...it's very distracting. I don't trust it, and will replace it.
- Other Thoughts: Strictly speaking, it still delivers power to the system just fine. But the buzzing sound leaves me concerned, and it's very hard to watch TV with that noise in the background. I bought it because it seemed to be the best of the available ~400W MicroATX PS available at NewEgg. If you can, measure the space where your PS will go, and don't limit yourself to the MicroATX PS...check out all the PS and see if their measurements make it a good fit for your case. There are lots of quality vendors selling ATX units that may fit your needs instead.
Works Great, Runs Hot
- Pros: Fits, and was inexpensive mATX PSU w/ 400w of power... hard to find in that wattage/price range.
Also, quiet fan for a small unit. Using in HTPC case. It's difficult to make smaller fans quiet.
- Cons: the exhaust is very hot! Athena says this is a very efficient PSU, but I don't think they claim to be 80+ efficient. Maybe that's why so hot?
Not silent. Can still faintly hear the sound from this PSU's exhaust fan (and to be fair, other fans in the case) in my living room when the HTPC is on.
- Other Thoughts: recommended if still in the price range I bought it for, or less expensive.
Good value for mATX HTPC build
Good Buy
- Pros: Small size fits HTPC box quite well. Quiet and dual fans provide good cooling power. Upgraded from 300w fan.
- Cons: None yet
