Endless programming possibilities - 29 selectable charging and discharging rate. Charging current from 0.2A to 2.0A and discharging current from 0.1A to 1.0A in 0.1A increments.

Five modes of operation:

1) Charge - Recharges the battery at the selected rate.

2) Refresh & Analyze - Charges the battery, rest for one hour, discharge, rest again, then recharges it. Selectable charging and discharging rate.

3) Break-In - Also known as IEC capacity measurement and "Battery Forming". Charges battery at 0.1C for 16 hours, rest for one hour, discharges battery at 0.2C, then recharges again at 0.1C for 16 hours.

4) Discharge - Discharges the battery at the selected rate.

5) Cycle - Performs charge-discharge cycle for up to 12 times with discharge capacity stored in memory. Recharges battery after final cycle.

Battery Matching - Battery matching refers to grouping batteries with similar “actual” capacity. To perform this, use the Refresh & Analyze mode to determine the battery capacity. Group batteries with capacity within about +/- 5% of the rated capacity.

Battery Forming - Battery forming is a charge-discharge-charge cycle which forces a full charge into the battery at a very slow rate. This process activates the battery. In certain cases, it needs to be repeated two or three times.

Worldwide 100-240V switching adapter - light weight and small. Also compatible with 12V input. Will work on car when used with the optional cigarette lighter adapter.

5 out of 5 eggsA worthy investment

Pros: -gives you total control over charging, lets you match batteries according to the charge they will hold, lets you remove duds from your stock
-you can break in your batteries so they give you the longest life
-gives you all the data you need to know for sure if your batteries are duds or gems
-longevity and durability. I've been using mine for 7 years on a weekly basis.
-it's never damaged a battery or been damaged by a battery in all that time.
-

Cons: not for use with lithium cells

Other Thoughts: I first bought mine in 2006 to keep my bike light's AA batteries charged. Considering I use my bike light five days a week, all year around, and I'm still using the original Maha charger, I'd say I can attest to it's longevity.
If you're impatient and insist on charging your batteries in 10 minutes, go buy a cheap quick charger and keep wondering why your batteries won't hold a charge after a few uses, or save your time and just stick to throwaways alkalines.
If you rely on multiple sets of AA or AAA cells on a regular basis, invest in this.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked great....for a short period of time.

Pros: -Maximized my battery life and performance
-Decent instructions

Cons: -Died after only a few months
-Expensive

Other Thoughts: I thought it was kind of silly to spend this much money on a battery charger, but when I got to use it, it worked great. I am a photographer, so good battery life and performance is very important. If the batteries don't work well, I can lose money. This really did a great job breaking in and refreshing my batteries. Then it stopped working. Good thing I have a back-up charger.

5 out of 5 eggsHeck of a little gadget

Pros: Multiple functions (charge, discharge, refresh and analyze, Break-in, cycle). Amazing to be able to see just how well your batteries are performing. Handy to just pop a battery in the charger and let it charge (automatically) when you don't want to spend time tweaking everything. Nice to know that your batteries will be fully charged no matter how long they sit in the charger (due to maintenance charge always running in background).

Cons: Have to leave it plugged in all day long. I suppose you could unplug it if you wanted to (if you weren't going to use it for a while)....but this is to be expected.

Other Thoughts: I tagged all my batteries after I got this charger, ran a refresh and analyze on all of them and recorded their capacities so I can track them throughout their life.

Batteries I use:
Powerex 2700
Imedion 2400
Energizer 2450

5 out of 5 eggsShockingly great!

Pros: Very geeky. Can bring rechargeables back to 100% capacity. Helps you get all the savings you expected to enjoy from using rechargeable batteries, especially the finicky and cheap ones. Pays for itself the first 6 months. Very cool.

Cons: I would have preferred a bluish screen and higher angle on the metal

Other Thoughts: I'm hoping that someone comes out with a base unit without a display that simply plugs into your pc and gives you the full capability of your pc to control the testing and display of the results, but until such time, this baby is great. I realize that the La Crosse unit has similar features and is a bit easier to use, but being a geeky-type consumer, I had to go for all the analysis and charging features, and I'm glad I did. I wouldn't have gotten so much more info and been able to explore every possible avenue for recharging difficult batteries. I guarantee that you'll be able to get MOST batteries back to 100% capacity with this unit, and that's what it's all about -- saving batteries that would normally fail.
By the way, I found that velcroing an inexpensive plastic picture holder to the back of it so that it sits up at about a 60 degree angle makes it easier to read.
Also, even though this unit will recharge your batteries to full capacity, it doesn't give you the actual capacity as a reading. Ideally, you need to purchase a battery meter that will give you a capacity reading in addition to the voltage. You can't get this info from a cheap battery tester. I recommend the Batt-o-Meter by Keith McMillen. Although designed for musical instruments, it works perfectly fine with any battery-- Alkaline, Rechargeable or Carbon Zinc -- to give you the voltage AND capacity of a battery. Without such a convenient meter, you are only guessing that the results of a 'full' charge have in fact rejuvenated the battery to 100% of its capacity. Lack of this understanding is why so many people fail to get the most from this type of equipment. The Batt-o-Meter was designed to give musicians this info in addition to the approximate amount of time of actual use a band member on stage might expect to use their instrument being powered by the batteries. It could be quite embarrassing to a musician if his wow-pedal suddenly stopped in the middle of a song.

5 out of 5 eggsNicest Charger I've Ever Owned

Pros: Hands down, the most feature rich charger I've ever owned. Well worth the extra price. Has nice multiple modes to bring life and charge to your NiMh batteries, both AA and AAA.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you are trying to keep battery price down, then you are wasting your money with any of the inexpensive one function chargers. This one will keep your rechargeables alive with the charging mode that revives, charges, and breaks in batteries.

5 out of 5 eggsMAHA Powerex WizardOne = Awsome

Pros: The best battery charger with the most advanced options for NiMH & NiCd AA and AAA rechargeable batteries. Easy to use for basic recharging tasks and advanced features allow for a range of functions. The best feature is the Break-in cycle for new batteries. Also each of the battery slots has its own temperature sensor (not found on other high end battery chargers) to monitor the cycle progress and deliver the best results for each battery. Backlit display is easy to use and read. Case is well made and has a quality feel to it. 4 rubber pads on the bottom keep it from sliding on inclines and a small collapsible metal stand on the bottom will angle the charger for better viewing.

Charges Sanyo Eneloop batteries well along with Energizer’s, Panasonic’s, Sony’s, Maxell’s, Rayovac’s and others.

Cons: Not really a con but a feature request - Wish there was an option to turn the display off and\or backlight off when not viewing. Started a break-in cycle on a set of new batteries using the charger in my bed room and the display was lighting up the whole room. An easy work around is to cover the display at night.

Other Thoughts: Broke in 24 new Sanyo Eneloop batteries with very little heat. Batteries were only slightly warm to the touch during the most strenuous parts of the cycle.

Have read reviews about this charger generating excessive heat when charging and don't understand how this is possible with the individual slot temperature control. The only way I could see this happening is if the batteries that were trying to be charged were bad and\or the charger was incorrectly configured in one of the advanced tasks such as Break-in cycle.

5 out of 5 eggsBattery Charger

Pros: Works as advertised. Very nice configurable options for handling both AAA and AA rechargeable batteries. Instructions are satisfactory with educational/informational portions included.

Cons: Have to install and setup one battery at a time (if not auto charging). This is due to the fact that if you install 4 batteries at once, and work through setting up your first battery program the other 3 batteries will shortly switch to an auto charge at a default mah rate (requiring you to remove/reinsert and restart the program to those batteries as you move to them).

Other Thoughts: Included 4x 2700mah rechargeable batteries with this charger are very high quality.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW!!!

Pros: Paid for itself in the first month. It refurbished all the old NiMH batteries I thought were dead, and told me which ones were unrepairable.

I've had one of these for 3 years, it still shows no signs of wear. I used consumer chargers for years, and it felt like my batteries were constantly dying and unable to take a charge.

Having a charger like this is awesome - I don't know, maybe all professional grade chargers are this good...?

Cons: Next time around, I'd get one with more bays. Batteries that sit in this thing will stay charged until you're ready to use them. Charged batteries that sit around unused will slowly lose their charge.
