5 out of 5 eggsgood

Pros: Had this charger for around 10 years now, and I have batteries that old that still work. Outstanding charger with fast/slow mode that charges the really old NiCad all the way up to the newest low discharge NiMH. 4 independent channels of AA or AAA.

Cons: the cover is kind of stupid. i think the manual says not to close it while charging due to possible heat. just pull the cover off.

Other Thoughts: I would buy this again, even after 10 years!

2 out of 5 eggsDied in about a year

Pros: It's a charger. Pretty LEDs.

Cons: Died shortly after warranty ran out. One slot died first, and then the other three.

Other Thoughts: People raved about this one... is this the best we can do? Oh well.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Charger Comes with Batteries

Pros: This charger can charge one battery at a time. Small foot print design and comes with 4 AA batteries. So, it's a good value

Cons: Read the directions. It says that you have to plug in the charger BEFORE you put the batteries in.

Other Thoughts: I did not read the instructions. The first time I used it, I put the batteries in first before I plug in the charger. I hope I did not damage the batteries. But everything seems to be working fine so far.

5 out of 5 eggsPOWEREX MH-C401FS

Pros: The best "consumer" AA and AAA NiMH and NiCd charger anywhere. It has one critically important feature that the batteries are spaced apart from each other when inserted in the charger which allows them to cool while charging. Extraordinarily easy to use. You do NOT have to insert batteries in pairs like some cheap chargers.

Cons: No display ? Who cares ?! It has 4 individual LEDs to tell you when each battery is fully charged. The case's edges makes it difficult to grip batteries when trying to remove them. Same for the ridge in the center of the battery "well". I Dremel'ed down the edges with no ill effects whatsoever and can now easily remove any combination of batteries that have been inserted.

Other Thoughts: Haven't tried to charge AA or AAA NiCd batteries yet since they are just about obsolete now (for several important reasons). Maybe I will disassemble my once-rechargeable Norelco and see if it can it can rejuvenate the 2 AA's in it. This charger has a small custom-programmed microcontroller in it, probably a PIC. This is critical in making a quality charger, but significantly adds to the price. However, it you want your batteries to last a good long time, then the MH-C401FS model is an excellent way to go.
