5 out of 5 eggsgreat but

Pros: great piece of hardware. I use it for 5.25" hdds and it does the job nicely.

Cons: none really, though the fan is a bit loud if youre the type that dislikes fan noise.

Other Thoughts: I use it for hdds, so cant comment on cd/dvd functionality but as good as it works with hdds, I'd imagine it would work even beter for optical drives as even the fastest IDE dvd burners dont push as much data as a hdd can, even limited by the ancient ata33 controller on the hdds themselves, I get real world transfer speeds around 10-12mb/s (faster with some drives).

using this on a amd trinity apu machine running win 7 x86, and the hdds are out of 486's, k6 's and early pentiums I scavenge parts from before recycling. got a nice collection of hdds doing that.

I have ten of these hooked up to another AMD machine, a phenomII x4 955be that serves as a NAS/fileserver, using a pair of usb2.0 add-in cards, and two of the motherboard usb ports, and they all work wonderfully.

3 out of 5 eggsVacum cleaner noise

Pros: The only 5.25 ide to usb external that i could find on the net. The aluminum is thick and feels solid when fully assembled.

Cons: The Fan is LOUD and i mean super loud. I'm not into the whole silent computing genre and i could care less if something is noisy on my computer but the noise this little fan produces makes it feel like i turned on a super industrial mainframe server. The aluminum finish while nice and sharp is a finger print magnet. The whole controller and the power plug feels weak so you can't rough handle the connections.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's ok

Pros: Does what it is supposed to do. Just plug and play.

Cons: The board is not that well connected to the case and it keeps flipping up whenever I try to plug in the power and usb when I don't put to top cover back on.

Other Thoughts: Overall, it's a good device for connecting my older H.D.s to my computer to give them a last bit of usage as backups.

4 out of 5 eggsTV Stand fan system

Pros: Supplies plenty of power to my fan controller and in turn my 4 140mm fans.

Smooth rounded casing, allows great mounting solutions.

Cons: The fan mounted in the back acted up for about a week, but straightened itself out.

I wish they would have supplied an opening to allow cables to be passed out the back.

Other Thoughts: If you use this to set up a fan controller system, just use a box cutter and your imagination to widen the slots they provided(hidden behind the label on the backside).

1 out of 5 eggsDefective

Pros: Not much I can say Can't use it. Casing looks ok.

Cons: Came with defective/bad power supply. Feels extremely cheap. Having a hard time finding a replacement locally or online.

Other Thoughts: Disgusted at the fact that I have to pay about $15 shipping to send it back to Newegg for RMA when the thing cost $30. Plus the whole turnaround time. Sad panda here.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes its job

Pros: Solid product overall. It has a simple task and does it well.

Cons: Be careful putting in the screws - particularly if you take it apart and reassemble it multiple times. I slightly cracked the plastic, but it still works fine. I'd recommend a drill on a slow setting to help make it just a little smoother.

Other Thoughts: The IDE interface also works as expected for hard drives; I used to it help recover a few friends' hard drives since my PC lacks an IDE port.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Fast transfer rates, easy to put together and sturdy

Cons: Gets hot but I think that depends on the hard drive that you put in it

Other Thoughts: When the drive gets hot the HDD just dosnt work as well put a fan on it and your set.

3 out of 5 eggsGood product, not really universal

Pros: Relatively inexpensive, easy to assemble, great design and performance

Cons: Not really universal, face must be modified to fit some drives

Other Thoughts: Unit is sleek and easy to use, however, it does not easily allow for all drives to be installed because of the small front faceplate. Other faceplates or different design might help.

1 out of 5 eggsSteer clear of this one, wasted funds...

Pros: sturdy enough i suppose.

Cons: fan is loud and actually moves too much air, sucks more dust into the unit than it would just sitting in the case with the pc fan going all day. no dedicated power switch for the fan either.

from the start i was not able to burn cd's with my lg22x dvd burner in this case for unknown reasons, though it worked well for dvdr's at first but now it takes over an hour to burn a dvd allegedy at 16x; ridiculous.

also the faceplate just barely allows enough room for the drive to open and close.

do yourself a favor and shop for a different unit, avoid this one and don't let the cheap price sway you. you will get what you pay for and you will likely regret your purchase like most of us here.

Other Thoughts: somebody mentioned an analog audio out, untrue.

also there is a super bright red led on the back of the unit that might annoy some people.

did i mention this is unit is a piece of junk?
