Yeah, we know: it's hard to get excited over a power supply -- unless it goes bad. No one needs that kind of excitement. Well, with a three year parts and labor warranty, Zalman obviously thinks you won't have to worry about it.
The same power switching technology originally developed for the space program brings you up to 84% efficiency to keep your energy bills down. Other advanced features including four separate +12Vdc rails, connectors for ATX motherboards and seven peripherals, six SATA drives, two floppy drives and two PCI-E boards. RoHS (Reduction of Hazardous Substances) compliant to reduce pollution, it has heat pipe technology and a 12 cm fan to reduce noise pollution as well.
Now you can keep your computer powered, green, and quiet, all at once. And greater efficiency not only keeps you from being a drag on the electrical grid, it means less heat generated; your air conditioner will thank you. That IS exciting! Check it out for yourself.
Pros: -Modular cables are very nicely designed, I've gone though 2 other modular cabled PSU's and they have a tendency to have very bulky connectors or heavy cables. Not in this case however, the cables are no more heavy than normal cables and the connectors are no larger than normal connectors, all very high quality. -Cool to the touch! First PSU that I've EVER used that doesn't feel like a blast furnace blowing out the back. This thing is amazingly efficient and doesn't add ANY heat whatsoever to your system. I'm not sure if the heat pipe is even required for this thing but it's a nice touch. -120mm fan is dead silent. I think it might be the same fan used on their CNPS7700 CPU cooler but with a reduced RPM to make it even more quiet. -Blue LED's aren't required but add a nice ambiance. They're not distractingly or blindingly bright like many.
Cons: -So far no complaints at all!
Other Thoughts: I generally try to stay away from statements like "must buy" or "best ever" because I haven't used every piece of hardware out there. This PSU however is the best that I have ever used by FAR. I've never been 'proud' of a PSU but this thing is amazing and I'd stand by this unit before any other piece of hardware I'm using currently. I can truly say that if you require wattage in this range than this really is a "must have" type of product.

Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Stable, quiet, and enough juice for all my needs. After moving from 480W to 600W, I was able to OC my Processor an additional 200MHz, and my SLI video cards OCed an additional 30%. I no longer worry about my system browning out while playing Oblivion.
Cons: none so far.
Other Thoughts: I have personally burnt out 3 PS units in the past, and they took out a combined casualty list of 5 hard drives, 2 MBs, and a pair of RAM when they went out. I cannot stress how important it is to have a properly sized Power Supply in your system, because if you burn out a PS it will take out anything its attached to. Upgraded from a perfectly fine Antec 480W to this for that very reason.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Modular Quiet Good door stop
Cons: Failed after 1 year and 8 months Customer Service at Zalman's is non-existent 3-year warranty doesn't mean anything
Other Thoughts: Was able to revive computer with Antec and Raidmax PSU. I've tried to get an RMA from Zalman's repeatedly, but so far haven't received a single response. I will never buy another Zalman product again. Newegg should consider the trustworthiness of manufacturers, honoring of warranties...The list of manufacturers is long and consumers can best use their money elsewhere. Buyer Beware!!!
I apologize for the delay in processing your RMA request. We do honor the warranties on our product. Please get get in contact with us at rma.usa@zalmanusa.com and we will process your RMA as soon as possible. Thank you.

PSU failed on me just before the 2 year mark
Reviewed By: Jnathus on 1/12/2010
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: more than 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Great PSU for system builders - quiet
Cons: I had no complaints about this CPU - moreso the case that I built it into - which required some real origami skills to be wired up leaving airflow capabilities. My only complaint is that the power supply died with a pop one morning just before work (I work from home, making my PC a very essential device). I pulled the PSU out of the case and could smell the burning - it had definitely gone bad. It might've not been the PSUs fault as this case positioned the PSU on the bottom and airflow may not have been ideal (even though a fan was right in front of it).
Other Thoughts: I have had 2 Zalman PSUs, and both have disappointed me. The first was loud, this one failed (when I've never had a PSU fail on me before). When building a system, do not buy something 'adequate' when you select a PSU. Buy something with lots of room to spare, especially in the +12V Amperage ratings.

Great unit, short life.
Reviewed By: Nate on 12/26/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: This unit is very quiet, and provides great, steady power. The modular system is absolutely great. I have no complaints about the operation of this unit.
Cons: Once it does go bad, however, it goes south FAST. I had this unit running for 1 year and 9 months, and then one day my computer would not start. The PSU was making a strange clicking noise, and the computer was getting power, but not enough to start. The HD and DVD kept spinning up, and then dying. It then made a "POP" noise and went silent.
I tried a Thermaltake PSU in the computer, and everything started up fine (whew!). I'll be looking elsewhere for a quiet PSU.
Other Thoughts: If this unit was dependable, it would be worth it. As it is, I have had a lot of downtime now because of it, and it has costed me money as a result.
