5 out of 5 eggsGreat Enclosure

Pros: This is a great little device. Solid build, great features, and very easy to work with. It does require a screw driver, but comes with it!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: It has a virtual CD drive function that makes installing operating systems from ISO files a breeze. Just make sure you read the instructions, you can't just throw the ISO's on the drive and expect them to work. You must put them in a _ISO folder on the root of the drive. Works flawlessly once you figure that out.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice, but has problems

Pros: Works on all Newer PC's that can boot from USB. I've booted many PC's with the ISO's stored on the HD. Just remember what the sat put the ISO files in folders underneath _iso off of t he root.

Cons: Does not boot up Mac's

Other Thoughts: None really.

4 out of 5 eggsIs It me or the Product?

Pros: Excellent concept, it filled a gap in the technology market.

Cons: See below...

Other Thoughts: I used this normally for about 3 weeks. Then all of a sudden, it disconnects itself from the computer everytime I try to transfer files onto the drive. I tested the hard drive and it checks fine, so the only conclusion I come to is that the interface in this enclosure is losing connectivity. Anyone else have similar experience?

5 out of 5 eggsSlick enclosure with innovative features

Pros: Easy installation, solid construction. Includes cables for use.

Cons: Minimal built in documentation, and the mode select switch option only gives a short window in which you can elect how you want to use the drive. If you mess up, you have to reboot and toggle the awkward jog switch.

Other Thoughts: Hardest part is creating/finding the various ISO's that you want to use. But once I did, I keep finding new uses for it.

5 out of 5 eggsTruth in Advertising

Pros: This piece of technology is exactly how tech should work: simple, straightforward, and problem-solving. As another reviewer more thumb drives or my USB-connected CD drive. This holds as many ISOs as the drive you put in it will fit, and you can boot from any one of them. Just awesome. Best money spent in a long time.

Cons: It wasn't free.

Other Thoughts: I'd give a sixth star for Newegg. I've been shopping here for almost 10 years, and they're still fantastic.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great esata drive

Cons: Unlike Farstone Virtual Drive software, this virtual drive only allows you to use it as an installer. Programs that require a cd to use will still require a cd. You can download this type of virtual drive for free like MagicIso.

Other Thoughts: Still a good portable esata drive for $35.

1 out of 5 eggswould be nice if it did what it is supposed to do

Pros: decently priced... the idea sounds fantastic!

Cons: Doesn't do what its supposed to. AWFUL manual... I spent a better part of an hour loading a few ISO's on here only to find out that the drive doesn't recognize them. after 30 minutes or so I saw a tiny footnote in the manual that says "make sure to place all .iso files in the "_iso" directory" Well.. there WAS no "_iso" directory... so I created one and presto, now it shows my ISO's on the screen! however it still refuses to BOOT from the iso. I tried in all 3 modes with no luck. it shows the "ISO Mounted" icon.. but any computer I try to boot from simply won't boot form this drive... I double checked BIOS settings and the BIOS could "see" this drive, but it won't boot.

Great idea in theory.. I had CD's and DVD's as much as anyone and would of LOVED to get rid of them... but unfortunately I'm still stuck using them...

4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice, Solid construction. Does not support Virt Drive in eSata Mode!

Pros: Nice clean design, strong construction. USB connection allows for Virtual Drive function, mounting your ISO file to looks like BD-ROM to Win7. USB connection also required in eSATA mode to supply power. Cool Write Protect switch, should be handy when fixing infestations.

Cons: eSATA/USB cables are very short (eSata 12, USB 18 inch).
USB cable must be used for power in eSATA mode.
No external power supply.
Absolutely worthless 'eSataMode' display when connected via eSATA gives you no temp readings or anything else.
!! No Support for ODD (optical drive-Virtual drive) while using eSATA! (lost a Egg for that!)

Other Thoughts: Wish they would support ODD in eSATA!
Would be nice if we didnt have to use those tiny screws everytime we wanted to change drives, a latch would be appropriate.

5 out of 5 eggsBest thing since sliced bread

Pros: If you're looking for a good portable hard drive cradle... this *is* a good one.

If you're looking for a way to not carry around so many burned operating system/utility/application cds then this is the goose what laid the golden egg my friend.

If you're not looking for that and you're a computer tech your ether out of your mind or a mashochist.... whose right out of your mind.

It's impressively simple to use and I haven't had a single computer complain at it.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsFirmware updates available

Pros: N/A

Cons: N/a

Other Thoughts: I just received it in the mail so I dont really know how its working, but I wanted to let everyone know that there is a way to change the firmware from NTFS to exFAT/FAT32, by downloading and updating the firmware found on the product site (

I will post more updates later. Cheers.
