1 out of 5 eggsHigh Failure Rate

Pros: Nice looking, easy installation

Cons: Fan starts making noise within the first 8 hours of use, followed by failure of the power supply.

Other Thoughts: This is the second enclosure that has failed in exactly the same manner. I would not recommend this item.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat enclosure

Pros: Great enclosure. I have 2 bluray burners each in one of these enclosures; and a third dvd burner in another. All work very well.

Cons: Power switch is on the back of the unit. Which means when I want to use it I have to pull the enclosure out on the shelf turn power on push it back on the shelf. Then repeat this to turn the unit off.
I took one egg off because of this.

Other Thoughts: A better design would put the power switch on the front. This would be good for those of us who do not leave the unit on 24/7 whether using it or not.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth the money

Pros: *Simple installation process (screws and a couple wires)
*Feels sturdy and looks nice
*Fan serves its purpose
*Drive fits perfect
*Good price

Cons: *Burn quality slightly worse due to the sata to usb conversion but that's expected so no complaints here

Other Thoughts: *Blue LED light adds a little style
*Doesn't take up much space
*Not too loud

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: Has worked well for me, the initial install of the Blu-ray drive i put into this encloser was easy to install once you figured it out.

Cons: Only con was i had to take off like every screw to open the case and putting it back together took a bit of time before i figured it out, its not well designed to be opened alot.

Other Thoughts: Works well for Blu-ray drive i got along with this, i plan on using it for an external sata harddrive to backup more data with in the future.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

Pros: Works great with my Sony Optiarc 5280S-CB-Robot. Nice not to have an external power brick, but who knows how long the internal one will last.

Cons: none at the moment

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what I needed

Pros: -Fits long drives well (needs a little "push" but works)
-Fan is quiet
-The Blue LED complements the Blu Ray drive I have in it.
-Brushed aluminum fits into my device ecosystem well.
-Speeds are great
-I use this with my imac so i rarely playback bluray movies... I burn bluray movies.
-Plug and play for OSX 10.7.5
- has lasted a year or so and still works great. I dont use it everyday and only turn it on when needed.
-The rocker power switch in the rear is easily accessible without looking and is solid.
-It uses a normal pc/monitor power chord.

Cons: None really. It does exactly what i need.

Other Thoughts: I definetly recommend this enclosure for bluray drives

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Easy assembly. Sturdy aluminum housing. Plug and play with no troubles. Read a BD and DVD straight up with no issues.

Cons: While the fan is certainly quiet it's also worthless. I can see the blades spinning but can't really feel any air coming out the back. The otherwise attractive black aluminum is covered in writing.

Other Thoughts: Read some other reviews before buying and they claimed a depth issue. I have an ASUS BD-ROM and there is at least 1" to spare in the back. Obviously I haven't tried to burn anything with it...

3 out of 5 eggsNo front panel

Pros: Solid case. I have a 2TB hard drive in it and it performs well.

Cons: No front panel for when a HDD is used. I had to glue in a front panel from an old optical drive to cover the gaping hole. Cheap fan didn't last long and became noisy very quickly. I had to replace it with a better quality fan.

Other Thoughts: I use 5.25 external enclosures for hard drives because of the fan. In my opinion, Vantec would sell more of these if they included a front panel.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We value your input about our product and will strive hard to provide our customer with good quality products. The original design for this enclosure was for a CD/DVD/BlueRay drive. It was not intended for a hard drive as a result we did not provide a front panel. If you have questions about our products, or anything that are not functioning the way it is advertised, please feel free to write to us for assistance at We will try our best to support and answer your questions. Thank you for looking into our products.
Best Regards, Vantec

2 out of 5 eggsNice Enclosure, wrong internal connectors for my application

Pros: Durable Construction
Standard power cord with no external brick

Cons: No pictures of internal connectors.

Other Thoughts: The 5 1/4 device I wanted to put inside needs separate, staggered SATA data and power connectors. The connectors in the case are joined, which will work for a standard DVD/CD, but not for the removable drive bay I wanted to use. A picture of the internal connections would have saved me the purchase.
