5 out of 5 eggsGreat Permanent Backup Option

Pros: -easy installation, no drivers required, just swapped out my old DVD writer for it, didn't bother to change the DVD-writer's SATA/power cable because it doesn't matter/I'm lazy
-Burns at 8x no problem, ~13 min for a full 23 gig burn. However as I'm using these discs to burn data that I plan to delete from my hard drives afterwards, the paranoia of possibly losing my files means that I verify every burn which brings the total time to about 30 min a disc on my computer.
-arrived fast, great packing, as usual with Newegg
-I managed to get 100 double-disc cases from an online wholesaler for about $30 CAD bringing the total price to about $90 CAD/TB with cases, plus time requirements to burn the blurays, which aren't all that much for me since I'm always on my computer anyways. Remember the $90/TB INCLUDES the burner, so by the time I buy my next set of blank discs that value will surely be much lower. Plus the storage is 'permanent' if the discs are stored properly

Cons: -got a coaster on my first burn using Cheetah DVD burner software but I DO NOT BLAME THAT ON THE DRIVE OR THE DISCS!!!!! Was definitely a software issue as I've had zero coasters since and successfully verified data every time since using Nero 10

Other Thoughts: I have a huge multimedia library in my computer, multiple TBs of HD movies, TV shows (both as .mkv files), FLAC audio, pics, etc. I Filled up 5 TB of HDDs so far and running out of SATA ports on my mobo so I was pondering between a multi-port SATA/RAID controller plus a couple 2TB drives OR backing up everything onto blurays.

I've felt the frustration of drive failures before as any experienced user has and decided blu-ray backup was worth a try. Price is great compared to anything else out there.

I didn't try the provided software so can't really comment on that. Just got Nero 10 instead which works flawlessly.

I've only had it for a few days so I can't comment on the longevity of the discs but other reviewers have apparently had the discs since November 2009 and I don't see any negative longevity complaints yet. Plus my own experience with discs is that they tend to stay functional despite being brutalized so I have no reason to think these won't last.

5 out of 5 eggsIf I had known it was this easy to get into Blu-Ray...

Pros: Great deal on LG burner and compatible discs. Breezy install and XP SP3 (32 bit) put it into immediate service. I'd never burned Blu-Ray before: so far all my burns have been perfect. Only burned 6 so far, but this is easy! One of my burns was right at 25GB!

Cons: Straight SATA cable included (not angled). No burning software included, only Cyberlink soft player. I'm not very hip to burners and such, but I installed the firmware updating utility. It immediately offered to update my firmware - but it looked like the download merely updated my Cyberlink player. I guess it updated my firmware - I didn't check. I hate to install shareware garbage that comes with merchandise, but I wanted to be sure to have the proper codecs and such to play Blu-Ray movies. Cyberlink has 3 or 4 unnecessary vampire processes that want to run 24/7. I disabled all of them and can still play my movies.

Other Thoughts: It'll take a long time to burn 200 Blu-rays, but I have a HD video camera. Maybe I'll take a vacation. Will home movies still suck if they're on Blue-Ray?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Simple Math tells us that if we buy 200 bluray movies at a very discounted price of let's say $15 bucks each including new tittles, we'd be spending more than $3000 plus. This bundle gives us that for less than $400, And we get to keep a bluray burner after the job is done.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Is there really anything else to say?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat deal

Pros: Great price! 4MB buffer instead of the 2MB in the listing, too. If you price out a 4MB buffer Bluray burner and 200x BD-R's it will be way more than 500, this is an absolute steal at 500. Exceptionally well packaged, as usual with Newegg orders.

Cons: Not really a con but my own arrogance caused me to ignore the instruction manual because I have built several PCs, have a degree in electrical engineering, etc...I looked at the picture here and saw how short the SATA cable was so I ordered a longer one (3') to allow for good cable management because I have a sizeable case with SATA ports at the bottom of it and drive bays at the top...yeah big mistake. If you install this drive with a SATA cable longer than 20", your PC will not boot. It says clearly in the instruction manual that if your system doesn't start up, make sure it is not connected with a SATA cable longer than 20", sure enough my system booted up as usual when I swapped out the 3' cable for a 16" one. Lesson learned.

Other Thoughts: Instruction booklet states it comes with a SATA power cable, it does not. You will need a SATA power cable if your PSU doesn't already have one.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat burner/media combo

Pros: received a LG WH08LA20 instead of BH08LS20 (WH has 4 mb cache as oppsed to 2 mb in BH). Rips Blu-rays quietly at 8x. I've only burned one BR so far (23 gb at 8x, in just over 12 min). This is my first Blu-ray burner and I am pleased with its quality. I didn't use any of the enclosed software (couldn't get Nero 9 to burn Blu-ray movies). Imageburn worked flawlessly. The discs seem to be of good quality (Philip R04). This is about the cheapest BR-25 one can find; even though it's rated at only 4x, the burner had no issue at 8x.

Cons: the discs smell bad when you open the spindle. BR discs are still quite expensive compared to DVD-R; of course it does hold 5x the data.

5 out of 5 eggsgood deal

Pros: No one ever heard of optical quantum before, neither do I. The bundle price was too appealing to resist, so I just gave it a try. I've burnt over 80 at 4x so far, and amazingly there's no coaster!! And I tried playing them forward and backward, the quality is also pretty good, no lag or something. The LG burner and the discs are pretty a good match.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: I think they heard what people complaint, cuz it came with a sata cable & user manual when I received the package.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent performer

Pros: No drver installation needed. Easy to use. Does its job well.

Cons: No manual so I actually had to ask my roomate to help me install this thing. I know people are trying save cost but how much can a few piece of paper or pdf be!?

Other Thoughts: good bang for the bucks

5 out of 5 eggsWork great, best bargain for media

Pros: The blu ray burner work great out of the box. My PC automatic detect the drive, no driver to install. Burn blu ray disc very fast (~20 mins for 23GB of data) Although the Optical Quantum BD-R said it is 4x, the drive burn it at 8x. I am also very satisfied with quality of the BD-R. So far every BD-R I burn is good (about 10).

The drive come with the following softwares: CyberLink PowerDVD, Power2Go, MediaShow, PowerProducer, PowerBackup and LabelPrint

The media is relatively cheaper because buying in bulk (~$2 per media)

Cons: Does not come with any manual, screw or SATA cable kit. This is not a problem for me because I got an extra kit from my SATA hard drive. Also I am pretty comfortable on installing hardware to my PC. If you do not have an extra set around, you can get one under $10 at newegg.
