5 out of 5 eggsOUTSTANDING

Pros: I've had this power supply running almost 24/7, 365 since the beginning of 2006. EIGHT YEARS! The best purchase EVER in computing hardware.

Cons: It isn't modular. But then again, NOTHING was in Jan 2006. XD

Other Thoughts: I think PC Power & Cooling was bought out.

3 out of 5 eggsbig and loud

Pros: Massively powerful, great build quality, perfectly reliable.

Cons: It's the loudest power supply I've every owned. And it's not merely a loud whirring noise... it's overlaid with a throbbing note, which makes it even more irritating. The solution, of course is to have a couple of video cards in your case that are even louder, like, say, 2900XTs (which I bought at the same time as this).

Con #2: It's absolutely enormous. It took way too long for me to figure out how to get it into my Thermaltake Armor tower.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, this product is built to very high specifications and keeping the unit cool is the only way to insure that heavy loads do not degrade performance. As you state, the fans are not silent. Most popular high wattage PSU's are built on a server core, and this requires a larger case. We realize this can create challenges when installing. This product is built around a no compromise concept, with performance being the number one priority.
Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsBest Customer Service

Pros: PC Power & Cooling has without a doubt the best customer service of anybody any where. You may or may not be able to save a buck or two with someone else but if you do and when your in need you'll wish you had bought a PC Power & Cooling unit. I am glad I spent my money wisely. Not once, not twice, but three times I needed help and each time they came through. First time I had a stick of memory go bad but the computer repair store told me it was my PS unit so I sent it in to PC Power & Cooling, they tested it and it was good the express shipped it back to me. Another time my motherboard went bad and that store told me it was my PS unit so again sent it in to be tested but it was good. The third time my graphics card manufacturer did not include an adapter but PC Power & Cooling express shipped me one even though it was not their fault. I am only writing this now, two years after my original purchase because I feel indebted to them for coming through for me, three times...

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The only thing I would say that can be improved is instead of having a massive amount of wires and connectors running out of the unit, they should just have plugs and separate wires where you only plug in the wires you need. It is a rather bulky set of wires that need to be bundled and tied out of the way.

5 out of 5 eggsSTEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros: The most rock solid the best power supply for your pc!!
I don't understand what others fussing about the noise of the fan the power supply is super quiet. Please use full tower case with good airflow instead of mid tower case. Never going back to any other inferior power supply.

Cons: Nada!!!!!!!

Other Thoughts: Newegg is the best!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid!

Pros: This thing provides rock solid clean power and would be great for server applications or gaming rigs as long as you need no more than 4 6pin PCIe plugs.

Cons: It's my fault that I didn't read enough into the specs. I saw a PC P&C 1kw power supply at an unbelievable price and automatically assumed it would fill my needs. However, I have a 790i board and will eventually go TRI SLI, which means I'll need to upgrade because this thing doesn't have any native 8pin PCIe plugs. Right now I'm using a 2 6pin to 1 8pin adapter for my GTX 280 and it's driving me crazy.

1 out of 5 eggselectrical whine loud fan

Pros: Makes an impressive paper weight.

Cons: Sounds like an air purifier. And even when your computer is off it has a high pitched electrical whine.
Sent it to pc pow and cooling for repair, and they did NOTHING!

Other Thoughts: This company has been recieving negitive feedback about fan noise for years. And refuses to change.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, we are sorry that you are not satisfied with the fan arrangement on this product. It is a high performance unit and must be properly cooled to maintain it's 1k power rating. This may cause it to be louder than some units with other fan arrangements, but we stand behind the performance of this PSU.
Thanks

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the Job

Pros: Despite what a previous reviewer stated this unit has powered my system with 2 8800gtx's and 9 hdd's and dvd/rw's for many months without any shortcomings. Power supplies of this power rating aren't required so much now that the newer graphics cards consume less power.
It did measure 1.12 kwatts at the wall plug though. So expect a power bill for leaving this unit on constantly.

Cons: In my Silverstone tj07 case I did have to get creative to get a power plug into the highest dvd drive.

Other Thoughts: Very powerful psu, has operated fine for me with what I would qualify as medium use for many months now without a problem on a system that consumes a massive amount of power.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet, rock-solid

Pros: PC Power and Cooling has an almost unrivaled reputation. This model is from their line which pre-dates OCZ's acquisition of the company. It came with an individual certification test report for my unit, so I have no worries about getting the "one bad one" off the line. I have it currently driving 4 GB of RAM (4x1 GB), 6 hard drives (4 500GB Seagate ES2 SATAs in a RAID-5, plus 2 IDE for other operating system boots), a SATA burner, a quad-core Q9450, and a GeForce 8600GT. The voltage rails do not waver in the slightest. I am confident that even with some capacitor aging, this power supply will faithfully deliver the power I need. It is of obviously excellent manufacturing quality.

Cons: It isn't exactly the cheapest supply around. That's about the only con I can think of. Also, it has only 6 SATA power connectors (although it includes some adapters to convert molex connectors to SATA power), and at some point I might want to run more than 6 SATA drives.

Other Thoughts: For extra info, I am including the output from 'sensors', configured with the chip monitoring while booted into Linux. YMMV, but these are very nice.
