Does this enclosure have enough room to fit the thicker spinning hard drives instead of the "thin" SSD?

I would say no. The form factor and interface look like they would only support a micro. However, I have not tried anything larger because I only have the micro drive.

Has anyone successfully hooked up a SanDisk SDSA5JK mSATA drive to this? The SanDisk mSATA has 18 pins, which I've been trying to find an adapter for to either SATA or USB.

You need to get an Msata to sata adapter first (it'll convert the Msata pins to "normal" sata ...they run about $10 bucks Then this dock will work fine with it

What type of speed/throughput have you seen?

It is not blazing fast by any means but it does the job.
