SYBA SY-ENC25024 2.5" Black USB 3.0 Dual 2.5" SATA HD/SSD Enclosure with USB 3.0 Super Speed

Pros: The concept is great. Love the idea of RAIDing 2 HDs. Makes it nice for backup.

Cons: Mine worked for less than one day. Installed 2 750GB drives and Raided into a single 1.4TB size drive. Started using it by backing up my desktop 1TB drive. Could only reach speeds just slightly above USB2 speeds, but no where near USB3 speeds (I have a single USB3 enclosure that reaches 90+ MB/s). This one only got as high as 38 MB/s. After running for several hours backuping up, it quit being recognized by my PC. MSG came up indicating unrecognized USB device. Tried connecting to my laptop with same results. After trying several different hard drives using the various switch options I decided to RMA this.

Other Thoughts: I really like the concept of being able to RAID 2 HDs together and the case size is small enough. The speed should be higher than just slightly above USB2 speeds, but even at that speed it serves my purpose of backup. Just wish it lasted longer than a few hours. Hope the next one will.

Pros: Who knows, it doesn't work

Cons: Shows up an uninitialized, and any attempt to do anything with it pop up with 'device is not ready'. Yes I know what I'm doing.

Other Thoughts: Don't ever throw the box out before you test something...doh!!

1. Make sure that all connections (data and power) are fully inserted in their slots and are firmly in place.
2. AC/DC power adapter is plugged and working.
3. Make sure the enclosure is powered on when you work on the switch (mode change).
4. Everytime you work on the switch, the reset of the buttons must be pressed once for the change to take effect.
5. Change from none RAID to RAID, formating or re-partition is required. Please see manual instructions.

Pros: none

Cons: does not work at all. Tried on several different machines with different OS and a veriety of different hard drived. Could see that there were disks in the unit but could not initialize them regardless of which one we tried, regardless of the status of the drive (some were blank, SSD, HD, and fully partitioned with files existing). I followed the manual's proceedure multiple times and then mentioned this to SYBA support, thier lame answer was here is a copy of the manual, just follow it (support is just as useless as the drive).

Other Thoughts: Find a different enclosure, and different manifacturer.

Pros: Compact , lower power consumption.

Cons: Overheat issues, transfer rates are not what they should be. The USB cable does not snugly fit into the unit.

Other Thoughts: This thing is a piece of junk, I run 2x Seagate 5400 rpm drives and it overheats like crazy. This thing gets hot enough to force the hard drives to shut down. I have had it a little over a month and already it's fried. Do not buy this piece of junk, look elsewhere

Overheating is not always the enclosures fault.
When people choose their enclosure, usually there are 3 things to consider:
1. Portability or not?
2. Read cooling fan or not?
3. Is this enclosure setup for once a week backup or for daily high volume database application?

The enclosure mentioned here is compact and ideal for backup.
If paired with a SSD storage device, it can be a fast and cool high volume database storage device too.
In your case, you really need an enclosure with 1 or 2 built-in fans in the back. And you should consider a bigger stationary size enclosure.

Pros: Nice dual bay external enclosure,USB 3.0,It has 3 functions to select from. Raid 0,Raid 1 and normal.Has a nice little cradle to allow it to stand on its side.It works great with mechanical drives.

Cons: It says it supports sata III, I think it only supports sata I/II This does not work very well with SSD's.It actual reversed my bench marks for my ssd. Normally my read is higher than my write speed. But with this device it reversed it.In single mode my ssd got about 190mb/s on write, but could barely reach 100mb/s read.In raid mode it hit about 290mb/s write and still 100mb/s read

Other Thoughts: It's nice enclosure thought it would be able to utilize the USB3.0 bandwidth better that it did.It is a nice device if you are gonna use it for platter drives,but I can't recommend it for use with SSD's

Pros: Works great when it does.

Cons: Does not recognize 1 TB hard drives. I tried two different brands. I am not sure what the limit is but works with 360Gb

Other Thoughts: I was hoping there would be a firmware to fix the problem on their web site.

1. Connect this enclosure to a different USB port
2. How did you formate the 1TB HD? What Windows version are you using? Try to seperate the HD into 2 smaller virtue HDs.
