NETDISK SOLO is a user-friendly, uniquely accessible hard drive. Powered by revolutionary NDAS technology (Network Direct Attached Storage), NETDISK allows a direct connection to the network without the need for IP configuration or expensive servers.

NDAS technology provides a low-power, high speed network storage solution that anyone can use to provide high performance, ecologically conscious, long lasting and versatile access to all manner of today's most important digital data in the home or small office.

Yes!!! This unit can be used for an individual storage and back up device for a single PC, or use it as a central storage, backup and sharing for all the systems on your network.

  • newegg NDAS technology NDAS (Network Direct Attached Storage) technology enables the IOCell NETDISK 351UNE direct connection into standard Ethernet networks without IP configuration. With NETDISK powered by revolutionary NDAS, you can back up your laptop via the Ethernet port and keep the USB ports free for the mouse, or back up other devices connected to the PC - and it’s easy to use – simply drag and drop.
  • newegg Versatile Connectivity Thanks to the USB 2.0, eSATA and Ethernet interfaces, you can take your NETDISK 351UNE anywhere you want and have access to the files and data by using it as an external hard drive directly connected via either port.
  • newegg Fast The IOCell NETDISK 351UNE is directly connected and controlled through the network, so the data process path and speed is just as durable and fast as a computer's internal storage drive. Other external network storage devices are more complex, may rely on a server, and have longer data processing paths. NETDISK with NDAS outperforms traditional network drives finishing tasks up to 5 times faster.
  • newegg Hacker proof The IOCell NETDISK 351UNE is safe from Internet hacking. It has its own proprietary LPX protocol and does not use TCP/IP. Therefore even if the network is connected outside to the Internet, NDAS is secure from hacking and invisible to outsiders. It is virtually impossible for a hacker to connect into the IOCell NETDISK 351UNE and steal or damage your data.
  • newegg Easy to expand You can add storage at any time conveniently by plugging more IOCell NETDISK 351UNE into available router/switch ports to increase storage capacity on-demand. Simply register each unit and you are done! Windows users can combine hard disks in RAID configurations!
  • newegg Cool and Energy efficient The IOCell NETDISK 351UNE features aluminum case for great heat resistant. The included temperature controlled fan will deliver airflow accordingly to keep the hard drive cool. And the disk will spill down if not accessed to conserve energy. The power and disk LEDs offer status at a glance.

3 out of 5 eggsNDAS? ok IOCELL? eh...

Pros: The network drive storage is a viable feature but not mind-boggling or extremely stable. I put a few LP 2TB drives in mine, a smaller 7,200RPM drive and a few others. Never had any serious problems. The eSATA works fine for large files.

From a modders perspective I was excited to find a 12v DC header port on the PCB (without a head installed). I soldered in my own low-power fan to keep everything cool. With the fan I installed I'm pretty happy with the enclosure even if the NDAS part is eh...

Cons: Proprietary drivers (and their background processes) are required to use the network portion of the drive. The 'newest driver' is not 100% stable and crashes in Win7 at least a couple times a month.

NO SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT!! IOCELL bought this tech a few years ago and is no longer doing any development for the drivers or software in well over a year. Driver v3.72 has been out since spring 2012 if not earlier. Apple support is even worse: Snow Leopard is a beta driver and Lion support is zero. (They do include a plea for programming help on their driver website because I guess they have neither the ability nor the will to write any more drivers themselves.)

From research the internal SATA controller is only SATA 1 so don't expect 200MB/s through the eSATA. I found the Ethernet port to preform about what they advertised, ~50MB/s - unimpressive but faster than USB 2. I did have one of my drives fail (heat?) and my first enclosure failed not long after I bought it so if you are not getting ~50MB/s on Gigabit my guess is you need to RMA it, but do it fast because I see they have dropped the warranty down to just 30 DAYS?! haha not a good sign...

Heat is an issue since there is no active cooling on this enclosure. That's why I soldered in my own fan...

Other Thoughts: I use this as a "last resort" backup I have stashed in a dark corner of my house. For an 'off-site' kind of backup solution its great. Its small, easily hidden, and Ethernet cables can be way longer than USB or eSATA.

With all my family pictures and movies digital now I'm always worried about my computer getting stolen. I'm sure the cloud would be more reliable but 50 MB/s is way faster than my home internet and I have no monthly fees.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for two years so far ...

Pros: Very quick response, as long as the drive isn't sleeping (I am using a WDC Scorpio Black in mine). Every machine on my network can work with it, from Windows XP to Vista to Windows 7 (I don't have Mac or Linux, so I can't speak to those). You do have to install Ximeta's NDAS software on each PC in order to access it, and you MUST have the same version of the software on each PC. I also like that an NDAS network drive is only a LOCAL drive; you can't access it from the web. That's better security, in my opinion. If you are sharing business data over your local network, or even personal family data, why put your data at risk, as long as you don't have a need to share it over the web or access it from the road? If you do, then get DropBox (or something similar), or step up and get an NAS box.

Cons: Partially a Pro, it does put the drive to sleep when you're not using it; it can take ten seconds or so to wake up to send you the data. But that's also good because your drive isn't spinning ...

Other Thoughts: I see a lot of people giving this a 1 star rating because they didn't get their rebate. Rate the product, not the rebate. Drop a star if you must, but giving it 1 star because you didn't get a rebate is wrong. Please do let us know they aren't good with rebates, but the product rating should at least be 80% of the review, star-wise.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid IOCELL products. Junk.

Pros: None.

Cons: Junk. Very poor compatibility. Unable to successfully configure for 3 different machines. Finally was able to transfer data across network at a rate slower than a floppy disk. Connection would disconnect randomly and require frequent reboots. Junk.

Other Thoughts: I bought the IOCell NAS enclosure from NewEgg with the $20 rebate. I sent in all materials as specified. That was in Nov 2011. No response from this shady company as of 4/24/12. Unable to reach them via phone or fax. They are not a legitimate company. Newegg should not carry IOCELL products.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware - Don't expect rebate from IOCell

Pros: .

Cons: Don't expect any rebates from IOCell. I never received any rebate for my last to purchases. Newegg should blacklist such sellers.

Other Thoughts: still patiently waiting for newegg to restock :(

1 out of 5 eggsit's a junk

Pros: N/A

Cons: The so-called Ethernet is a joke. To use it you must install an IOCell Networks software to use the so-called Ethernet. If you are luck to get it work, you will need a hammer to smash the sluggish junk.

It can be used as a regular USB/eSATA Enclosure if you want to toast your hardrive. I opened the enclosure to test it. The chipset so hot, almost burned my finger tip.

This company will never process you rebate submission. You'd better save a forever stamp, and not to submit your rebate. It's illegal to check status in the 1st 12 week. After 12 weeks, you have the honor to receive this single-sentence email.
"Dear customer
Your rebate was pending since your documents did not arrive on the center. "

This single sentence is the whole email, no signature, no name, no title. and no further response.

Other Thoughts: Don't touch any product form IOCell Networks

3 out of 5 eggsReceived The Rebate After 12 Weeks

Pros: Easy Setup
Works great when only one device access it

Cons: Slow performance, even lock up when two or more devices are attached to it, not even accessing it.

Other Thoughts: I believe this device has troubles to handle requests from multiple sources. It may even have problems to handle multiple requests from the same computer. Of course, all ATA devices do. That is why we still have SCSI devices.

I actually received my rebates after 12 weeks and 3 emails later. They only responded to me once from accounting and stated that they did not have my rebate application. Anyway, if you have not receive your rebate, you should persist and continue sending emails until rebates arrive at your mailbox. It does take some efforts to get your rebates.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware of this company

Pros: Actually a great enclosure and works really well. If they would honor their rebates, I would have been happy with the device.

Cons: The rebates are extremely unreliable. If they answer your email, and you're lucky if they do, they will tell you that they did not receive it. They asked for proof and I sent it and then nada from them.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy From IOCellNetworks

Pros: ... n/a

Cons: I have not received the rebate, nor have I received any contact from the manufacturer despite sending 3 different emails and voicemails requesting the current status and expected mailing date. If I wanted to pay full price, I would've bought a more useful NAS instead.

2 out of 5 eggsNo Rebate

Pros: 1. Easy set up
2. Cheap if you get your rebates. Otherwise, it is not worthy.

Cons: 1. Only works in Windows environment.
2. Slow performance.
3. Lock up screen sometimes.

Other Thoughts: Only the windows pc within your LAN works. My andriod tablet does not even see this NAS. No response of rebate so far even I have sent 3 email inquiries already. Does NewEgg knows that this manufacturer does not honor its rebate? Maybe newegg is part of the scheme.
