5 out of 5 eggsUpdate - Still Working After 2 Years

Pros: Seems reliable after 2 years of constant running.

Simple way to add 1 or 2 extra hard drives without opening your computer case.

Has several configurations which are selectable with little switches on the back.

Drives feel warm to touch but not hot because they are in open air, not inside a computer case. They will, of course, get warmer if you transfer a large amount of data all at once, but that's to be expected.

Supports "spanning" as well as RAID 0 and 1 and JBOD. With spanning you could, for example, insert a 250GB drive and a 500GB drive, and the computer will see them as a single 750GB drive. Or, run them the regular way where they show up as two separate drives, your choice.

Cons: Not really a con at this low price but there's a limitation of 2TB capacity per drive. If you want to use 3TB or 4TB drives then you'll need to spend more on a higher model. See "Other Thoughts" below.

Other Thoughts: Sits on computer shelf behind the PC. Our very old computer occasionally lost connectivity with this dock, but a newer (circa 2007) computer is always able to "see" both drives that are sitting in the dock, no problem. We just use them for extra data storage and backup and they work fine.

Consider these other models if you need any of the following features:

Up to 4TB hard drive capacity for each slot.

USB 3.0 fast connection to your computer.

Internal SATA III speed (great for copying or cloning from one SSD to another SSD within the dock itself; otherwise SATA III speed within the dock is unnecessary).

Dyconn Dubbler Dock (DUBDB) Aluminum
Newegg Item#: 9SIA1F80CP1278

Rosewill RDDO-12001
Item#: N82E16817182269
(this one limited to SATA II internal speed but it's also cheaper!)

1 out of 5 eggs2nd Update

Pros: None. Worked for a few weeks, then one bay stopped working.

My emails to the manufacturer have been ignored.

I feel like Calvelry conspired to steal my money.

I've has such good luck with NewEgg over so many years it's hard to believe they were anything but a patsy in this.

Cons: None. Worked for a few weeks, then one bay stopped working.

My emails to the manufacturer have been ignored.

I feel like Calvelry conspired to steal my money.

I've has such good luck with NewEgg over so many years it's hard to believe they were anything but a patsy in this.

Other Thoughts: The opinions I state below are my own, and no-one elses.

The FACTS I relay, and that lead up to my opinions feelings, and convictions, are in the public domain, and belong to everyone. Because noone get's their own facts.

The bay worked beautifully for a few weeks, then one bay just gave up, making both High-Speed copying between drives and HDD Duplication impossible.

I emailed Calvery several times, and never heard anything back even once. Not even to acknowledge that this is a model with issues. I think I even used a web-form on their website, and never heard back from that either.

I feel that they KNEW that this dual HDD bay was a big, stinkey toilet trout, but rather than being ethical by recalling them and taking a huge loss, they decided to sell them KNOWING they would break AFTER NewEgg's 30 return policy, then THEY would BREAK THEIR OWN WARRENTY, by refusing to fix them and further, not even acknowledging the customers they ripped off.

And I am CONVINCED of that because, AS SOON AS the SALE was OVER, the thing went on CLEARENCE! If it WASN'T electronic effluence, why the sale, then clearence, then no longer selling them at all?

This really is the worst product I've ever gotten off of Newegg, and probably the worst product I've EVER purchased in my entire life.

Until Calvalry makes this good for me, I... 1) Will Never buy another Calvery product in my life, and... 2) Could never in good consience reccomend Calvery to anyone ever, and will use my IT credentials to warn others from making the same mistake I did when I purchased a Calvalry product.

2 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Worked at first. And I gave it a high raiting. But after being used for RAID 0+1 w/the 2 TB Seagate drives they had on sale for $69.99 over Christmas for a few days, And then being used to replicate two drives successfully, I put it on the shelf for a month. Then got it back out to copy files from one drive to another (Hoping that would be faster than pulling the files from a 2TB drive through USB 2.0 connection, and then pushing them back out through another USB 2.0 connection.)

Cons: After owning it for less than a month and a half, drive bay #1 stopped working, and so it became useless for RAID 0, 1, JOBD, and drive duplication.

Now it's only good as a USB to SATA converter.

Since I didn't have a problem until a month and a half after the purchase, it's no longer covered by Newegg's 30 replacement or exchange warrenty.

I emailed the manufacture on Saturday evening, it's now Thursday but I have gotten no responce yet. I'll let you know if Calvery ever get's in touch with me.

Other Thoughts: If I'd had known this was on sale just to be discontinued, I might have passed it up.

I guess I should have known from the cheap price that it was a cheap product, but I got pulled in thinking I'd gotten a good deal.

P.S. - I ignored this at first, but the lights for the two drive bays are reversed, with little pieces of paper poorly stuck over the original lables, and are now comming off.

This makes me think that these were unmarked refurbished or remanufactured products, which I believe must be advertised as such. If not, I don't know why so many retailors go to such lengths to tell the consumer, and why refurbs are sold at such a discount.

I'm going to be looking into the legality of selling refurbs W/o notifying the customer.

5 out of 5 eggsCavelry HDD Dock - Good product

Pros: Worked as expected, dock is fast enough for what I use it for of course it's usb 2.0 so how fast does it really need to be. It's a good price seems sturdy enough anybody who's worked around hard drive jumpers would easily understand the configuration. Mirroring takes some time 2 250gb sata 1's took around an hour to mirror of course that's generally fine. As the speed of a copy can be determined by many things.

Cons: Wish this model had a copy button like the next model higher that way if I wanted to copy I wouldn't need to set the dock to raid 1 first. Of course that's just a nice feature and no reason to affect my rating because I would have bought the other dock if that feature was really in my mind worth the extra $. I may still get one in the future when I have some money not going into parts for customers.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: RAID 0,1,JOBD
Works fine
Have had no problems

Cons: Can't boot with device on and connected to two drives.

Must remove 2nd drive, turn on dock, wait for it to recognise Drive 0 and THEN reinstall the 2nd drive (Drive 1). Inconvienent for long term use, but that's not what it's made for, is it?

Guts are "open" to spills and dust.

A dustcover would be nice.

Oh, instructions give two different methods to hook RAID 1 to Windows 7 x64. One method says the jumpers must be set to the same configuration as hooking it to any OS, while another set of instructions says the jumpers need to be set in a special confuguration. I used the seperate configuration and have had no problems.

Other Thoughts: Nice for what it is. Unlike other raid devices, does NOT format drives it is building into an array. So you can use a regular drive with data on it as a seed for a RAID 1 array.

I purchased a larger RAID enclosure, and had intended to combine 4 2TB drives into RAID 10, but THAT RAID device DOES format the drives as it builds it's arrays. And since I'd already begun to use RAID 1 ON two of the four drives, and put a LOT of data on them already, I just decided to go for a 6 TB RAID 5, and just figure out some other way to move the files.

4 out of 5 eggsbulky but gets it done

Pros: Works and gets the job done. No read/write issues. Flexible 2.5 and 3.5 support.

Cons: Bulky as all get out. This thing looks like a beast. Minus one star for "where do I put this thing".

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME!!!

Pros: So i know its soon to write a review for a product but i am more than pleased with this product!!!! Plugged it in and imediatly began cloning/viewing/using drives as externals on this device. works quicker than the usb to sata chords and is very sturdy and effective..

couldnt be happier with this purchase!!!!!

Cons: none really

Other Thoughts: the only thing i noticed is that the ac adapter is huge, and takes up a lot of space on surge protecters, but not worth docking an egg for it!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks good for copying disks

Pros: Does a nice image copy of 2.5 laptop drives, SSD's etc.

Cons: Haven't experienced any

Other Thoughts: I've used this a couple times to clone a PC or laptop drive to a new drive (SSD) or faster drive (laptop hybrid drive). Both times it's worked flawlessly. Keep in mind, after the copy, if it is Windows on the drive you may have to reboot a couple times to get the BSOD's to fully go away as Windows figures out that it's dealing with a different hard drive.
Beats the heck out of using Clonezilla or other things that take a bit more work. Pop both disks in, press a button for 3 secs, wait an hour or two (or more depending on size/speed of disks) and you are done.

5 out of 5 eggsyears of use

Pros: ive owned this docking station for approx 3 years it has 2- 1 tb drives in it and been on for about 90% of that time. i love how you can hot swap. when i bought it it was a freebie with a 1tb drive! off of newegg!

Cons: data transfer is very slow if you are moving from one drive in the cradle to the other. when i bought it there was no such thing as usb 3.0 if calvery comes out with one like this one in 3.0 im up grading!

5 out of 5 eggsEnabled me to salvage drives and data

Pros: My previous HDD docks were both Rosewill (I'd never had a problem with their add-on devices in the past, so I figured I was safe). Not so. Suddenly, previously "healthy" drives were rendered unreadable, no matter which dock I used. Fortunately I hung onto those drives (I'm a hoarder!).

Took advantage of a Newegg sale and picked up this Cavalry dock. Simple setup, and an idiot-proof design, as long as one follows the included instructions. No drivers required under W7. And, Voila!, those "bad" drives were once again fully functional with all my data and files intact!!!
As an aside, I am not running in RAID configuration.

Incredible transfer speeds ... if I didn't know any better, I'd swear I had somehow wound up with USB 3.0 ports rather than 2.0

Cons: Power brick is a little bigger than I care for; on some power strips it could block an adjacent outlet.

Other Thoughts: So impressed I ordered another one, which just arrived today (Thanks for the prompt service, Newegg, despite Hurricane Sandy issues!). As soon as I clear some desktop space, it'll go into service.

While it isn't really a good idea, I have hot-swapped drives while the unit was connected, with NO issues whatsoever!
