2 out of 5 eggsNOT what I expected

Pros: It's USB 3.0
Installed G-Skill Phoenix III 120gb ssd, formatted and running in less than a minute.
read: 148-210MB/s
write: 98-148MB/s

Those aren't benchmarks, just a real world test. Lows and spikes transferring back and forth bulk iso's from my laptop ssd, which reads/writes much faster than those speeds.

Cons: It's not what I ORDERED. The pictures of the case show the correct part number, but it's in fact nothing like the one pictured. Mine has a bright green sled that slides into a gray/silver housing. Was expecting all black items to finish an entertainment center, but these garish things will have to work.

The way you place the drive into the sled is precarious, because it forces you to jam the sata data/power ports from the hard drive into the sled at a high angle while attempting to seat the drive. I ordered two of these at once, and they are both identical in every respect.

Last but not least, I ordered using the 4-7 day free shipping, it took 16 days to arrive. Ordered on December 6th, arrived December 22nd.

Other Thoughts: I'm not so muffed with Patriot; their product, the one I got at least, is good. It is held together nicely, but I wouldn't use it for a hard drive I ever expected to remove again, because of the stress you would have to place on the sata data and power ports to remove the drive.

Newegg, do better, please.

3 out of 5 eggsfussy

Pros: fast when recognized by pc

Cons: not always recognized by windows. I have used this on many desktops and laptops on a weekly basis and the driver does not always load. or it is not a recognized file system.

Other Thoughts: trying differenty usb ports helps.

1 out of 5 eggsSurprise!

Pros: Sleek, good transfer speed

Cons: Bad connection after just a few months

Other Thoughts: Thought I'd get good quality by buying a name brand -- no such luck. The cable connection at the drive is fiddly, and if it gets even the slightest jar, it disconnects. Often takes 2-3 tries and a little jiggling to get it to work. Next time I'm going back to the no-name cheapies!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks OK, Don't Care For The Case

Pros: Works like it's supposed to. Decent speeds... CDM with Intel X25-M on W7-32bit...
Much faster on reads than USB 2.0, of course, and about 2X faster at copying folders. Backup copies my stock market data folder, 240MB/1450 files, in about 6 seconds.

Cons: I have the earlier Gauntlet model also. This Gauntlet 2's data transfer rate is about the same as its predecessor, but the case is annoying to open if you care/need to swap out the drive. There is not even a notch along the margin where the case parts snap together so that you can insert a screwdriver to pry it open. I had to insert a small screwdriver into one of the screw holes to pry a spot up and get my fingernail in there to keep it open until I could work the screwdriver around the margin. It's also shiny plastic and shows fingerprints like mad. Annoying compared to the earlier model, but I'll cope. Minus 1 Egg for the case.

Other Thoughts: Had bought one from another seller when Newegg didn't have in stock. Have since bought a 2nd.

5 out of 5 eggsHard Drive enclosure

Pros: Simple installation of the hard drive. Clean looking, Recognized by Windows and or course Linux. Seemed like a cheap case when opened and a quick look over but actually very very nice case and when snapped together very durable. Very pleased with purchase.

Cons: None at this time.

Other Thoughts: Would definitely purchase another if needed. Also shipping was quick!

5 out of 5 eggsGauntlet

Pros: Small, works well, never had any issues

Cons: None, like the other reviewer said no carry case but other then that it's perfect.

Other Thoughts: To the n/a reviewer, mine works in my MacBook pro perfectly, perhaps you need to format you drive to support it, and don't forget to format to journaled. Hope that bit of information might have been some help. As for some other info, macs do not support USB 3.0, but they can read USB 3.0, it just wouldn't be as fast as if it were in a USB 3.0 port.

5 out of 5 eggssmall, great enclosure case

Pros: USB 3.0, small, easy to install, & look like a iphone 4/4s without the touchscreen.

Cons: none so far because only plastic & no carry case.

Other Thoughts: I brought one right after the 1st review on 5-4-12. one from newegg & the others at electronics store in silicon valley because it was on sale for ~$15.
I'd brought it because USB 3.0 & it was 3-5x faster then 2.0. It was easy to install, small, compact & single cable. I didnt experience much negatives on it only that is plastic & no carry case.

I have an answer for the "N/A" reviewer because the reason why it doesnt work is USB 3.0. apple doesnt support USB 3.0 so no drivers for it that why same with blu-ray & others but not fully apple fault.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: USB 3.0
Though made of plastic, it has a nice look to it.

Cons: Does not work on My MacBook Pro Late 2011. The drive does not boot up, the blue led light keeps flashing. I stick it in a PC it works flawlessly.
