5 out of 5 eggsFAB QUICK OS CHANGES

Pros: fast swap-out of OS's especially great with SSD's, and not disassembling your computer

Cons: LED light is too bright.. can be disturbing.. but this is a minor nit.

Other Thoughts: HOW I USE THESE.. one is installed in all my tower workstations, etc., and use with SSD's to maximize boot speed, and have win7/10 pro on one drive and XP pro on the other. When using the main drive [a] OS, the other drive [b] can be used as a fast working file drive [important with video work] and once the project is finished, remove the project from the [b] drive. Also, this process reverses well when using XP as the main [a] OS.

With SSD's becoming very affordable now, esp if you shop for the last generation drives, you get large capacity SSD's for us with small capacity budgets. :)

1 out of 5 eggsDamaging Piece of Trash

Pros: Good price for a dual drive - if it worked.

Cons: This is not the first time I have used a mobile rack. But this one after I put my drives in it, my computer no longer would start. Both drives were damaged and the OS had to be installed. Could not install it while in the mobile rack - or even while the mobile rack had an SATA cable plugged into it. Put it inside the tower, installed the OS, put the drive back in this mobile rack, and drive was once again damaged. When this rack was hooked up to the motherboard none of the drives could be read. So obviously got a defective unit. Of all things that can be defective, its never a good idea to risk your harddrives so I would not recommend this to anyone. Save up the 80.00 to get an icydock and don't risk your drive with this low quality unit.

4 out of 5 eggsAcceptable

Pros: -Makes hot-swapping drives a breeze

Cons: -One of the tray mounting mechanisms broke, as is commonly seen in these reviews.

-Incredibly bright and annoying blue LEDs.

Other Thoughts: I basically have the same problems with this device as most other reviewers. The bright blue LEDs need to be dimmed with some tape or something else put in front of them.

I did find, however, an almost foolproof way to remove the drive tray after breaking one. You need to insert your fingers as close to the rear of the clips as possible, push in, and roll them out as opposed to pulling on the ends of the clips. I hope I can help someone with that.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the job, but!

Pros: Does the job, allows switching SSD in/out . Sata cables furnished were a nice length. Power adapters were furnished but in my case I had plenty of sata power connectors available.

Cons: Really thin plastic. Although it is for a 5.25 mounting, it does not take into account of a lot of cases that use slide in bays. No adapters with snap in clips were furnished. Jury rig to mount it as these require a very small thin adapter. The drive indicator lights on the front panel are very, very bright. Will have to filter somehow. Appear to be power on only, no activity. As far as inserting the SSd into the tray, with the thin plastic, you have to be very careful as you have to stretch the side rails to insert the knobs into the SSD itself. Don't expect the longevity to last 5 mountings and dis-mountings. IMHO. Check alignment as it is easy to install upside down.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, blue lights are annoying

Pros: It works, what more can I say?

Cons: When the others commented on how bright the blue LED lights are, they were under-exaggerating. These lights belong in a flash light they are so bright.

Other Thoughts: Using Arch Linux

2 out of 5 eggsBroken rather quickly

Pros: I use it as a single bay adapter.

Cons: Bakelite SATA connectors snapped off inside my cables after I mounted it. Very fragile... I was still using it as a single drive adapter after it broke.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Design reflected in Low Cost

Pros: Inexpensive... But at a cost.

Cons: Docking Tray locking mechanism. The outer clips are so thin (.75mm) that I have had two trays break from only occasional use.

Other Thoughts: This product is usable, but I would not rely on it if you plan on removing the HDD tray docks on a regular basis... which was for me less than 2 times per month..... I's simply a bad design in my opinion.

2 out of 5 eggsNice Swappable drive bays, but watch out

Pros: I bought 3 of these to transfer large files between 3 of my offsite computers.
1. Easy to install
2. They work (with a caveat)

Cons: The drives have to to be pushed rather forcefully into the connectors to work properly and this causes a problem. See Other thoughts.....

Other Thoughts: When you put the trays containing you drives into the slots to connect them to the power and sata ports, you have a to push a little extra to get them to "take" once they are seated they are "really" seated. When you go to take them out i requires you to push the two clips on the sides in order to release the drives from the connectors the combination of the hard seating and the weak clips has now twice resulted in two of my clips breaking on the left side. At that point the trays are basically static trays and can no longer be removed without some tweaking. And wow i just found out that they
sell extra trays for 9 bucks what a concept... you think they knew that these things would break pretty easily? I do.... anyway 2 stars the design and the fact that they do indeed work as advertised... negative 3 stars for the fact they the trays are saltine crackers.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than you'd think

Pros: - Two 2.5" bays.
- Doesn't _need_ screws to hold drives.
- reliable drive detection
- independent SATA connections

Cons: - independent SATA connections

Other Thoughts: I used this exact model for around six months while I was employed for a computer repair center. We had a custom server designed to do all of our malware sweeps, and this thing was rock-solid. I was unplugging and plugging in 2.5" drives five or six times a day on two of these units and not once was I concerned they were going to break.

The fit is snug enough that in the horizontal position, I never worried about the drives coming lose without screwing it in. This allowed rapid insert\removal of drives.

This was used in a workplace, so the lights never bothered me, but I can see the complaints--blue LEDs are very difficult for the eyes to adjust to, and they're -bright-.

Oh--and they don't use port-multiplication, they're two independent SATA cables--the bays are just pass-through, so they were fantastic for my line of work. However, if your drives are going to be a bit more 'long-term,' port multiplication probably would be a nice option.
