Good item
- Pros: Drives slide in smoothly, and connect without wiggle. It's easy to connect, and works through a IDE sata expander card.
- Cons: No on/off switch other than opening the door, so if there's a drive in there, it is active. This can be a problem if you forget and stick in a drive that used to be a boot drive, then restart. It gave me a fright!
- Other Thoughts: It feels solid. I was skeptical of 'slide in and connect' for a hard drive, but it feels reliable. It's not a solid unit, so there is airflow around the drive. For the money? This things a total win.
Nice surprise
- Pros: Easy install, worked out of box no problems with my WD Black 640GB that I bought at the same time.
Nice lights, blue Power/orange HD light.
- Cons: Maybe to remember to turn key. Not to be to "rough" with the metallic frame when installing it.
- Other Thoughts: Nice fitting internal tray, nicely packed with everything straight down and well worth the money. Feels more expensive.
- Pros: Power and hd activity lighting with option of not having any lighting altogether by not plugging in a connector. I have three of these exact units and they all work well. Hard drives don't heat up any more than if installed in internal drive cage.
- Cons: The data connector on this unit does not accommodate the metal latch on equipped SATA2 data cables. It's still the old SATA1 style. Also, would have preferred the key lock to also serve as a power switch as well as securing the drive from accidental release. Completing any electrical connection (in this case, swapping a drive in and out with the computer already powered up) should always involve a manual switch of some kind, be it through a key switch, push button, etc.
- Other Thoughts: This unit works fine, but hopefully a future upgrade will resolve what I mentioned as cons.
