3 out of 5 eggsNot so sure

Pros: Solid construction. Ventilated.

Cons: Plugged in to WNDR4700 NAS router and is only recognized as a USB device. Locks up system.

Probably works fine in a das or within pc or mac. Not the raid solution for my single bay router I had hoped for.

5 out of 5 eggsSOLID !!!

Pros: Think about those WD enclosures... that can use two hard drives and you only get the option to mirror or stripe... now that you have that in mind... Think about the possibilities...

To the guy below thanks for being the ssd guinea pig... at least you satisfied that avenue of my curiousity with this enclosure....

So I bought several of these to experiment with and still doing it... put two in a WD enclosure with 4 1tb laptop drives.... each 3.5 housing is set to mirror and the WD does the striping.... if you already did the math then you would know i just created a raid 1+0 (ten) which means my enclosure can tolerate two disk failing....

Cons: Does not come with a 6 pack... raid 0 is about 70 to 80% of what you would get when compared with say an onboard ich10r/sb750.

Other Thoughts: Some folks just need to see beyond 3 feet to know what gadgets are cool and what are a total waste of time...

2 out of 5 eggsspeed killer

Pros: Can span disks for more space.

Cons: Any performance SSD will take a tremendous speed drop just by passing through this controller. I benchmarked with a Corsair performance pro, which direct internal SATA gives 240MB/s sequential read...through this thing in Normal mode...134MB/s. 2x of the same disk via RAID-0....250MB/s....DON'T BUY THIS EXPECTING SPEED IMPROVEMENT VIA RAID-0.

Other Thoughts: Go direct SATA if you can! This controller will kill your SSD speed.

5 out of 5 eggsCoolest thing of the week!

Pros: This little 2.5" to 3.5" HDD enclosure is officially the coolest thing of the week. Using one (1) SATA-II connection you can connect two (2) 2.5" HDD's or SSD's. Perfect for a pair of SSD's used for OS. Selectable RAID 0, 1, JBOD. No drivers needed. Tested with Windows 7/2008 and CentOS 5.8. Absolutely no issues, plug and play. Great little unit.

Cons: Only 1, it's just SATA-II, hoping they come out with SATA-6.0 soon.

Other Thoughts: Looks cool two, has the same outline on the top of the drive as a real 3.5" drive. Really a clever solution. In RAID1 / mirror it yields an HA (high availability) solution in one enclosure.
