5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great, Looks Great, Does what it's supposed to

Pros: Fits great, looks great, easy enough to install, does what it's supposed to. Not much else to say.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Used to install a StarTech 35FCREADBK3 internal card reader (Item# N82E16820130013) in an Antec Three Hundred Illusion Computer Case (Item# N82E16811129066). The included face plate blended perfectly with the case.

5 out of 5 eggsFits perfectly

Pros: Matches the Antec 300 series computer cases perfectly! I don't get what the complaints are, except people are putting them in cases that are NOT 300 series...
I have installed these in at least 10 different 300 and Illusion cases for card readers without a single glitch...perfect!

Cons: Absolutely none.

Other Thoughts: These seem to be out of stock everywhere, even at the Antec store online. Bummer, had to go with another brand...it looks nice, but doesn't match the grill pattern like this one does.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Adapter

Pros: The speed of shipping was the first Pro. The adapter was exactly what I needed. It fit perfectly and looks great. There are a lot of places for screws for your item. BTW, screws were included.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsDon't assume Antec implies cross case compatibility

Pros: It has a good look, solid metal build and has several screw hole options. I was able to use this with my Antec 280 case with some alteration. 3.5" items fit very nicely in the caddy.

Cons: The description reads Antec 300 so this is only a con if you don't have the right Antec case. The holes are not exactly standard. Two holes found on a 5.25" DVD are offset on this item. Also, the front face metal grill is larger than standard so it will not fit in a standard 5.25" drive bay.

Other Thoughts: I chose to "adapt" this to my Antec 280 case. Armed with a small grinder, it was easy to cut the metal grill that wraps around the sides without damaging the underlying plastic. With a drill I added back the 4 holes on the sides. Now it slides easily, and snugly, into my P280 case. It even clips into the toolless drive holders integrated into the drive bay.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Matches my Antec 300 case perfectly.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This adapter allowed me to mount the USB 3.0 adapter that came with my motherboard perfectly. Keep in mind, it's made for the Antec 300 case specifically, so if you're using it with another case, caveat emptor. How it installs will be dependent on what you're mounting with it. There are 2 sets of screw holes in the case mount, an upper and a lower. They are offset depending on how far into or out of the case you need to be. I needed it out farther so the USB adapter lined up with my case front, so I used the lower holes. It comes with 4 screws to mount to the case, so you'll need screws for the item you're mounting. Again, it's made specifically for the Antec 300 case, it is NOT a generic, so if you're not sure it'll fit your case, you may want to get a generic.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Well made, cheap where it doesn't matter to keep the price down, expensive where it counts.
Functions perfectly well and as intended.
Blends with the 300 series aesthetics like a needle in an ocean of needles.

Cons: It'd be hard to find a con of such a simple product.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with all chassis

Pros: None for me.

Cons: Should've read all reviews before placing the order; Bill on
8/3/2012 stated that this is not universal mount. Indeed, it is not, and so it doesn't work with cases (like mine) that don't utilize the standard "snap-in" drive bay front plates.

Other Thoughts: I was going to use it to mount a standard 3.5" floppy drive-sized USB 3.0 front-panel connector; had to get a standard "caddy" drive bay adapter elsewhere.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: heavy sheet metal construction

Cons: hard to get mounting screws in

Other Thoughts: Mounting a card-reader (that is the form-factor of an old floppy) in a 5¼″ bay requires a suitable bracket that also allows it to be mounted forward so the panel is flush with the outer case. Looking at others that claimed to support card readers, I was dissuaded by reviews of poor quality. Then I found this one, and indeed it is well made, out of heavy gauge sheet metal and is in fact more robust that strictly necessary. It certainly won't tear apart from tugging on it when inserting/removing cards.

The "forward" mounting position needs to protrude from the bracket quite a bit, and only one pair of screws lines up. But the hole in front will act as a second point of support, so mounting is solid. It was rather difficult to get the screws in though; the access cut-aways could be better designed.

The included face plate is meant for a specific case. It does not match my actual case perfectly and it doesn't lock into place, but because the width is standard and the fingers on the sides are springy in general, it press-fit and stays just fine without needing to modify.

The mounting holes for the outer 5¼″ mounting did not line up very well; only one (of 4) pair of screws lined up, when the bracket was forward enough to line up as desired. More flexibility in positioning either the inner or outer mounting would be good. But everything worked well enough without drilling more holes myself.

I gave 4 instead of 3 stars (eggs) because it was hard to find anything quality made. I'd rather drill another hole in a quality metal bracket than have a shoddy plastic bracket that breaks. The product was not in fact sold as generic but for a specific case.

5 out of 5 eggsYou See What You Get

Pros: Matches perfectly with the 300's mesh, and makes my 3.5" fan controller look like it belongs with the case. No surprises here; The quality of steel and the coating that covers it are identical to what the Antec 300 case is made with.

Cons: It is tricky to line up your 3.5" bay device perfectly, as the Antec 300's mesh face is about 1.25 inches away from the inner sheet metal of the case. This makes it difficult to mount your 3.5" bay device flush to the face of the 300 case, but it is do-able. Low price prevents egg removal.

Other Thoughts: I bought this after making my own bay adapter by taking a Dremel® to one of the Antec 300's included 5" mesh bay covers, and this looks MUCH better. Wish I had just dropped the $12 when I bought my 300 in the first place!
