5 out of 5 eggsUsed it to fit a SSD in a HP Proliant Microserver G8

Pros: Works as advertised. Simply insert the SSD in the casing and you are now handling a 3.5 inches Disk!

Cons: none so far!

Other Thoughts: My HP microserver is having 4 3.5 HD drawers. I wanted to use a 2.5 inches SSD in one of the HDD bays and the disk connectors must be placed exactly at the same place as on a 3.5 HDD. The ICY DOCK does the trick. Now, my SSD is in a casing that's the same size as a 3.5 inches HDD and the connectors are at the right place!

5 out of 5 eggsGood product, great customer service

Pros: Product was simple, easy to understand and use. Pop the SSD in and close the door.

Cons: I could not figure out how to secure the door closed, but works fine without all that.

Other Thoughts: Great customer service as well, had an issue with getting the rebate that was provided when I purchased this adapter in the mail on time, but they helped me out with it!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Works with our SuperMicro hot-swap caddies.

Cons: As others have noted, it can be a bit touchy on making a good connection with the drive. In the two I got, I had to make two attempts to get the drives in before they showed up. They haven't had any issues since.

Other Thoughts: You definitely need to check the connection after putting your drive in to make sure you have a secure connection before putting it into your system. Tool-less designs can be nice but only if they work well. I would rather take the time to manually screw something in and know it'll hold then have to deal with a tool-less design that might not hold. If I need another one of these in the future, I will pick up something like N82E16817998126 which is simple and manual but looks like it won't have any of these issues.

Unlike other cheap adapters, this one does use the correct hold mounting and threading. So it works in hot-swap server racks and such.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: None

Cons: Well, maybe I got a defect, but the Serial ATA cable does not snap in. Therefore, it does not go all the way in. Now I have to RMA and pay a restocking fee. I think restocking fee should be removed if its a clearly defective item... newegg your really going to restock a defective item....?

Other Thoughts: No reason to buy this. Just get a normal 2.5 to 3.5 converter mount and avoid another connection.... more connections means more possible problems. Also, its plastic.....

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible product, do not purchase

Pros: Comes with screws

Doesn't have many other pros, it looks nice but I want a product that functions

Cons: Does not work well, the mechanism that pushes the drive into its slot has a lot of spring, if your not careful disks will not work.

I cut the air vents on the top so I could push a screwdriver into the middle of the top of the drive and push it in all the way

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this product

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Simple design. Good airflow. Same size and dimensions of a 3.5" drive, and it fits in a drive bay just fine.

Cons: I bought two of these, and have taken the drives out a number of times. I had one instance in which the connector to the SSD went under the drive and didn't connect. Just close the lid slowly and look as you're doing it, and it should work just fine.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great with HP SATA backplane

Pros: Form factor just like a regular 3.5" disk drive. Good for disk caddies and SATA backplanes, which expect the SATA/power connectors and screw holes in just the right place. Tool-less installation is super easy and fast.

Cons: Nothing substantial. It seems a bit heavy and clunky, but that shouldn't matter.

Other Thoughts: I used this to put a Samsung 840 EVO (item # N82E16820147247) SSD in the drive bay of an HP Gen8 Microserver. It fit fine in the drive caddy, and plugged into the SATA backplane just fine.

1 out of 5 eggsdoesn't work

Pros: None

Cons: Does not work. I tried several times to put my SSD into this enclosure, but it never worked. The device tries to insert the SSD connectors into the ports when you close the lid, but it never worked. It just felt like the whole thing was going to break, or damage the SSD. It's going back.

Other Thoughts: The SSD came with a mount that works just fine. I should have left well enough alone, especially for how much this enclosure cost!
