Question 1

I want to use this solely for mounting a 3.5" HDD in my tool-less 5.25" bay in my Phanteks Enthoo Pro.  It appears that I can remove the black faceplate and keep the 5.25" drive bay cover in place on the case.  Does this sound right?  Thanks!

The short answer is yes but that would depend on how much your front cover protrudes into the case. You may have trim sone off the front metal sides but you can take off up to 3/8" without intruding too far toward the first tapped hole. There is another 5/16" of material prior to the hole edge so it should work. However, there are brackets available which are designed for this purpose at half the cost as the FB-55 which has that nicely finished front piece. Check out ORIO AC52535-1S, ICY DOCK MB343SP. ROSEWILL RDR-14001  (the rubber mounts are a thoughtful touch) and Kingwin HDM-229  under HDD accessories. Hope this helps, dusty

I want to install a card reader in a 5.25 bay. This product serves as the adapter and bay cover, right?

Anyone know if this works properly in corsair carbide 500 R?

That it does! It's a little tricky to get the card reader into though and the reader will be slightly recessed from the front of the adapter, but it works just the same. What you don't get from the images is that it has a vertical brushed aluminum finish. It works well in my 350D case, but it might look a little out of place in the 500R. Hope this helps you out!

How is the texture of the front of this thing? is it glossy? or matte?

the case i use has a matte finish. it's really like a black metal, but plastic usually looks just fine if it's a textured finish.

what i don't want is smooth/glossy, nor do i want brushed metal look.

The front is metal.  I have a matte case, and while there is definitely a difference in texture between the case (Silverstone PS07B) and the front panel of this thing, it's not a stark contrast.

It's definitely not glossy -- it's more brushed metal.  But again, it comes pretty close to matching the black bay covers on my case.

Will the, Tek Republic Card Reader TUR-3000 fit inside, And this replaces an empty spot on the front panel of a HP Z600 workstation?

The SS FP-55B will accept any device that will fit in a 3.5" floppy drive space while the FP-55B itself will fit in the standard 5 1/4" optical drive case location. In addition, it accepts two 2 ½" HDD or SSD drives on the floor behind the floppy or card reader. All are secured using screws. The rear section is attached to the front plate via screws and is painted glossy black while the front plate has a brushed black aluminum finish. I can’t affirm its adaptability to the HP case except to say that if a standard optical drive will install OK then the FP-55B should also.

Will this fit nicely into a Corsair CC600T? Will it work with the case's tool-less design? Will I be able to retain the case's original mesh covers? Thanks!

I have a Corsair 300 with a tool-less design.  It fits, but it is not tool less.  I needed screws in order to completely secure the front panel.  If you will be inserting anything into a card reader, for example, it could slip slightly without the mounting screws.  Hope this helps.
