1 out of 5 eggsStop! Don't buy this!

Pros: OK, I really like Startech and their product, so it pains me to give a bad review, but on this one I must. For a pro, it sort of works... (just not as intended)... read below. It DOES read the drives and power them just fine, etc... my problem is with the drive bay doors...

Cons: OK, the reason this gets a 1 egg is that the doors on the drive bays are VERY hard to open. I have this in my case as far forward as humanly possible, and if I try to open it, it physically breaks the case because of how the door mechanism attaches to the drive bay housing. All in all, it is just poorly designed, and I can't imagine a 3.5" PC slot that you COULD use it in to make it work. For that reason, I recommend against this.

Other Thoughts: On another thought, Startech makes a version that has a sliding latch to open it from the front (instead of this design), and I'm going to purchase one of those. This was one of the VERY few times Startech has let me down... so I'll look the other way. I think the price has gone up on this as well... I think I bought it for a bit less.

5 out of 5 eggsLooks good to me

Pros: Was looking for a way to have trayless ssd in trayed 3.5 inch environment, and this is it.
Looks very well done.
May have some issues with some ssds but I have corsair and crucial and both work fine.
They made it mechanically like a 3.5 inch drive, so it can work in trayed 3.5 if take to front off.

Cons: Haven't seen any yet

1 out of 5 eggsLook elsewhere.

Pros: Once you get the drives in, and that isn't easy, it does seem to work.

Cons: This device is of very poor design. In the first place the guide rails allow the drives considerable "slop", so you're going to have to hunt a bit to get the drives to actually mate with the connectors at the bottom of the slots. Second, inserting the drives all the way into the connectors (and they do have to be all the way, of course) involves pushing in on the drive while its "door" is just over your finger - if you have the door all the way open, the drives won't go in far enough (due to the ejector arm); nor does closing the door push the drive in far enough.

Ok, you have your drive in. Now you want to pull it out. But opening the door does not really eject the drive... at least, it does not push the drive out far enough that you can grab it effectively. Better have a pair of long-nose pliers handy.

That's the first few times... after that the lever arm gets bent and opening the door doesn't even partly eject the drive. At least, though, it is then possible to seat the drive all the way without almost closing the door all the way on your finger.

The only reason I installed this instead of sending it back at once is that I needed to mount two SSDs in a single 3.5" space right away. As soon as I find a better version of this product, this one's going in the trash.

Other Thoughts: Really deserves 0 eggs. I have literally never had a bad experience with either Startech or Newegg in the past. I am appalled that Newegg is selling such a thing.

4 out of 5 eggsSturdy

Pros: Built very well

Cons: Intel SSD hangs up and requires a little finessing to get in and out.

Other Thoughts: Functions perfectly and is built to last. My only gripe is my Intel 520s and 330s hang up... Sandisks slip right in and out though.
