3 out of 5 eggsFan noise

Pros: Does what it says.

Cons: Noisy if you are building q quiet PC. With CPU and case fans on a low setting there is a high pitch whine that is very annoying. The switch is for controlling how the drives start up Not fan control.

Other Thoughts: Use the supplied case screws. They are shorter than your typical screws. Longer screws will bind the drive trays making them hard/impossible to remove.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice Addition to a PC

Pros: Solid

Smooth insertion and ejection

Makes good use of an empty 5.25" bay

Cons: Really wish it could have been made tray-less. However it is so nicely built that you cannot complain.

Other Thoughts: Definitely getting SATA 3.0 6GB/s speeds out of all four bays.

Have this in a Cooler Master HAF XB EVO. With a Nepton 240 mounted right above this unit, the tray locks vibrate loudly during max CPU usage if they are not in the "locked" position (120mm fan right above this spinning near full speed). No big deal, just took a minute to figure out what was going on.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat product

Pros: High Quality, no issues mounting either ssd or mechanical 2.5" drives. Drive trays and well fitted and lock down tight. I was very impressed with the product overall. Price was right too.

Cons: I had a MINOR issue with the drive trays sometimes not wanting to lock in securely. (could tap the front sometimes and make the tray unlock as if you had hit the release button) I think the case bay was squeezing the frame of the dock and making the drive tray locking mechanism be temper mental. That being said, it did stay locked as long as you didn't bump whatever tray happened to be stressed.. and you still have the option to use the key to lock the drives in place which locks them down solid as a rock. NOTE: The bays worked perfectly when not in the case. So i didn't take off an egg as the problem could have been that the case was as millimeter too tight or the docking bay was a millimeter too big. Was an expensive case so ... who knows.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid - perhaps too solid?

Pros: * The chassis is extremely durable.
* I've seen no connectivity problems whatsoever.
* Looks very slick inside the case.

Cons: * It was a tight fit in my 2u Norco case, but these things will happen. Fitting another above it would take a good deal more effort, though.
* The plastic drive caddies are flimsy. None have broken on me, but if you anticipate switching them out frequently, you should look elsewhere.
* There are (or were) cheaper options for products like this.
* Another manufacturer of external hot swap bays, another key to lose :( Standardize already!

5 out of 5 eggsBought 2 - Works great

Pros: Nice design. Fits perfectly in a 5.25" case slot right under the DVD recorder for one of my build. You are able to remove a drive with enough room for the fat fingers.. SSD's align nicely with the inside connectors and SSD sleds slides in and out smoothly. Locks feels solid and keyed for locking sleds in place if you want to but don't have to.. Comes with 4 long (18") SATA cables with straight SATA connectors on both ends and uses one SATA power connector for all drives. One HD activity light on each sled door and has a small non intrusive LED light but rather looks cool that shows it is working.. There are dual cooling fans on backside that seem pretty quiet. Bought one for a server build and one for a PC rebuild.. Quite pleased with this choice so far. Come with plenty of recessed SSD screws with precision alignment of SSD to sled to connectors. Not a bad choice and will be a huge time saver when you want to change drives.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Good choice for SSD array or otherwise. Easy access. I am going to get another when I re-build my other PC next year.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: AMS brand, well constructed aluminum chassis. fits 4 2.5" drives into a single 5.25" bay.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I am using this to connect 4 Crucial M500 240GB SSD's to a LSI 926--8i SAS HBA via an Intel RESCV240 SAS expander using a Rosewill Rosewill RASA-13001 SFF-8087 to 4XSATA breakout cable.
Working without any issues at all.

Caveat - use the short included screws. longer screws will interfere with the seating of the carrier plates.
Be aware of possible cable length issues if you have a large case

3 out of 5 eggsUnusually large

Pros: It works

Trayless

Cons: Too large for some enclosures. It took a lot of coaxing to get it into my 2U chenbros chassis' 5.25" slot... so much so that I highly doubt I will ever be able to remove it from that slot. Forget screwing it in, it doesn't need screws... just wedge it in and it will never come out. In my case, it sticks out about 1/8" from the front, and that's the best I can do. On the other hand, it appears to work, and accepts drives with no issues. In the event that the module breaks (one of the doors snaps or something similar), I will likely have to replace my entire chassis. I've read that others have had issues fitting this into their chassis, so I'm sure I'm not alone... I just may be one of the few stupid enough to attempt to "force the issue" and get it in the slot.

4 out of 5 eggsvery-good hot swap

Pros: This unit is very solidly constructed, and works great for of ease-of access and swapping out hard drives quickly. Each bay has its own activity light that is blue, but blinks purple to signify activity. Each individual tray is lockable, and it comes with two keys. finally, a great price on the unit!

Cons: I removed one egg because of an annoying issue that occurred for me. After installing my two SSDs into the bay, a witnessed a significant drop in system performance. Mainly loads times for games.

Other Thoughts: Despite the drops in loads time, i still highly recommend this bay. While my SSDs were removed to regain the system speed, it still works great as a 2,5 hdd bay. I am actually ordering a second unit for the hdd trays themselves.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Aspect of My New PC

Pros: - You use your computer case's space more efficiently
- You can truly take advantage of Hot Swap/AHCI without having to open your computer case.
- Supports 2.5" drives of varying heights (up to 15mm)
- Each of the four drive slots have it's own HDD activity LED.
- Each of the four drive slots can be "locked" to prevent accidentally removing a drive while in use.
- Zero performance loss on the SATA 3 bus.
- Cooling fans are included in the module
- Said fans can be removed!

Cons: Mounting this into your 5.25" bay securely may take a little bit of trial and error, which is the case with many backplane modules. If you tighten the screws too tightly you will impede the proper seating of the drives. Tighten too loosely and the entire module will slide around in the 5.25" bay. Patience is key. You will find a tension level that will eliminate both problems.

If you are using 3.5" HDDs, this module does not support them.

Other Thoughts: This device made my new build awesome. It does more than just hold four hdd/ssd. It gives flexibility to place your storage drives in a space that would usually go underutilized. In my instance, it allowed me to remove all of my hard drive cages, which allowed for much better air cooling. For some, it will mean the ability to mount a radiator. For others, it will mean the ability to mount additionally storage drives even after their existing drive cages are already fully populated.

At the moment I have an SSD and two 1TB HDDs populating the slots in the backplane, with and option to add another (and I will).

A small detail is that the blue LED indicators matched PERFECTLY with the Blue LEDs on my case, as well as the fan controller. I was very pleased with that.

I see myself purchasing a second unit in the future since by motherboard supports up to ten SATA devices.

5 out of 5 eggsSmart little device

Pros: Works without issue. The LED's are activity sensitive. The fan noise is not excessive. The door swings are sturdy. No flimsy pieces and rigid construction throughout.

Cons: None. Have had no problems to date.

Other Thoughts: Just a heads up that the drive release keys are the triangular socket type -- you may end up with another panel lock key on your keyring depending on what is most common with your equipment. Our test bed uses four Western Digital Red NAS drives ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236600 ) in a RAID 10 array. I would not have attempted a 2.5 inch setup like this without NAS specific drives -- typical laptop hard drives like to park themselves to save power and heat.
