5 out of 5 eggsHUGE Potential

Pros: when i first got this i couldn't overclock through my bios, the fsb could only go up to 206 and no higher but recently i tried an overclocking program called Clockgen that calculates propper frequencies for all my components, using that i could overclock to 2.7 stable with my koolance waterblock and 2.85GHz stable when the cpu makes better contact with the waterblock (i just push the waterblock down) it's a very fast processor and if the voltage could go higher i could get it to 3GHz. In Sandra lite i can beat an FX-57 and an extreme edition 560 at 3.6GHz [2 smt]. This cpu does run fast at stock speeds. Now the only bottleneck in my system is my videocard. I can overclock the HTT to 1125 but i have to use my chipset waterblock and i get better performance when i use it to overclock my videocard a 6600 LE

Cons: my PI score were very high compared to the FX-57 at the same speed. I don't recommend this cpu, get the 3200 venice at 2GHz, the Venice cores are better than these clawhammers because the cache size isn't that noticeable, only when compared to sempron't do the L2 sizes matter but the Venice cores are a notch above the clawhammer and below the clawhammer is the Newcastle but if you can GET A SAN DIEGO they can beat any single core stock speed cpu from amd or intel when their overclocked

also: too bad this is a 130nm chip

Other Thoughts: my scores
Dhrystone:12,719
Whetstone:5,819
Super PI (in seconds):37 (47 at stock speed)

Motherboard: nVidia NV8
water temp:~10*C
waterblock:Koolance CPU-300-HO6

2 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed

Pros: It was cheap came with my comp that I bought and seemed to work great for the first few days.

Cons: Within about 4 days my comp began to slow down.. Now it takes close to 3 mins just to load my settings...

Other Thoughts: My computer is fairly new and had I known then what I know now there is no way I would have spent my money on the comp I got.. I have seen computers that where other wise the same system run 10X as fast.

2 out of 5 eggsFrustration

Pros: Well, while the processor was working it was awesome. Nothing would slow it down. There was no problem recognizing it with an Asus K8N-Deluxe board.

Cons: Then the processor failed. I was transferring files from one HD to another and the computer just shut down. It was not overclocked and with the Thermaltake Big Typhoon i had on it, it was running at 37C on load. I got a replacement processor from newegg and this one had a very small chip on the core. I didnt even bother installing it because it probably will not work.

Other Thoughts: newegg was quick and very helpful with the first rma. i contacted them about the second processor and i have since been waiting almost a month for a replacement for the chipped processor. They've offered me a discount and next day fedex shipping but neither of those are getting me a processor any quicker. the order they placed for a 3rd processor has been voided.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall strong stock CPU

Comments: I bought this proc about awhile ago and only recently have I purchased a motherboard, the epox 754 sli, that can overclock properly. The problem is that the proc is very beautiful while running stock. The 1 mg cache really give is strength, but it is not very overclockable. I had is running at 2.2 ghz kinda stable, but anything over that cause the proc to go crazy. AMD has always been my company of choice when it comes to overclocking, but this is the first proc I have ever purchased that has had problems. That is why I gave it a 4, bad overclocker, but excellent stock proc.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Comments: I was heastant to order this processor but I really wanted something that had more cache than a usuall desktop processor. It dropped right in to my ASUS K8N, which isn't the deluxe version and booted right up at full speed. Paired with the Thermalright XP-90, it runs as cool as 91 degrees at idle, and no more than 110 under load.

5 out of 5 eggs

Comments: Very good cpu.Overclocks nicely.FSB is up 25 over default and core speed is at 2238. no problems at all. Needs at least a 500w PS and heatsink and cooler to do this. Thermaltake copper tower with dual fans. 44c loaded and 32c idle.

5 out of 5 eggsnice.

got a Thermalright SLK-948U for this and it runs GREAT. Very cool very fast.

Bar81 compiled a thread on the anandtech forums about this chip and I almost bought the heatsink he mentioned below but in the thread he mentions the SLK-948U. The heatsink mentioned in his feedback does NOT usually come with a backplate and you need one.

Smooth sailing on a Asus K8N-E Deluxe.

These chips are a great deal.

As Bar81 mentioned below since this is technically a mobile chip you processor will run at 800mhz (4x multiplier) under windows. To fix this update the processor drivers from the AMD website listed below.. Then check your power saving options in control panel to fix the problem. Example...Running your power settings for "Always ON" or "Home/Office Desk" your processor will run at full speed. Or "Miminal Power Management" or "Maxinum Battery" will run the processor at 800mhz until needed then will automatically up itself to 2 Ghz when needed.. VERY helpful for staying cool..As always Newegg ROCKS!!.. This is my system..

5 out of 5 eggs

Comments: This is a *much* better chip than my retail 3200+. This is what I can confirm about the 3200+ Desktop Replacement CG Revision chip:

1. Multiplier half lock - like the desktop chip, multiplier is locked at a maximum of 10x; setting it higher does nothing.

2. *Much* cooler running chip than the desktop 3200+ - temperature difference of 9C at idle and under load. This corresponds with the lower max thermal output (81.5W v 89W) and the better cooling allowed by the lack of IHS (integrated heatspreader.) It must be noted, however, that I currently have a quiet low airflow setup so the difference in temp may differ depending on your setup.

3. This is the new CG stepping of the Athlon 64 and overclocks better than current desktop C0 revision chip.

4. These are technically mobile chips (although Desktop Replacement category) so your motherboard BIOS must recognize the microcode. Otherwise, it will lock down to 800mhz (4x mutliplier). Another user has claimed to be able to use clockgen to change the multiplier; I am unable to confirm this. I can confirm however that the 3200+ DTR works perfectly in the Asus K8V Deluxe with latest BIOS.

5. Heatsink contact is a very real concern. Most backplates in my experience, whether included with the motherboard or the ones AMD includes with their retail chips will not work properly - the screw poles aren't deep enough. The only stock heatsink setup I found that works is my Alpha PAL8150 *with* the specific Alpha backplate. I'm not sure if it's the combination or the Alpha backplate by itself that allows the heatsink to make proper contact with the DTR core, but it does and the beaty of the K8 HS retention mechanism is that there's no need for a shim as there is no risk of crushing the core unless you're an idiot and you push down on the heatsink.
