Get the performance you need at the price you want for today's demanding workloads. The AMD Opteron 6378 Abu Dhabi processor has 16 cores and supports quad channel U/RDDR3 up to DDR3-1866 (LV, ULV and LRDIMM supported). It can be used in four- or two-way configuration - to achieve a highly scalable computing system - great for servers and high-performance computing, especially with software that's built to run in parallel. Based on the second generation of AMD's modular core architecture codenamed "Piledriver", the Opteron 6378 delivers significantly higher performance per watt per dollar than previous generation processors.

Run your IT infrastructure, web, cloud and collaboration workloads on a platform built on an ideal balance of enterprise-proven performance and smart business.

detailed view and application

Enable low TCO

AMD Opteron 6000 series processors can help IT organizations achieve a low total cost of ownership (TCO). By combining high core counts with large memory footprints, the needs of many IT workloads can be met while helping reduce CapEx and OpEx costs. Simply put, AMD Opteron 6000 series gives you good enough compute to get the job done at an outstanding price.

Designed for virtualization

The success of a virtualization project can be measured by TCO savings. With servers powered by AMD Opteron 6000 series processors, high core counts and large memory footprints combined with low acquisition costs can help IT organizations achieve their goals.

Right-sized infrastructure

AMD Opteron 6000 series processors are the ideal platform for your infrastructure needs. From file and print and line of business (LoB) applications to email, the servers that make up your back office require the right amount of compute balanced with the right amount of memory, at a great value. Servers powered by Opteron 6000 series processors can provide that ideal balance.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Host

Pros: I just saved our company a bunch of money by switching to 6378! But seriously, these things are amazing. We needed a virtual machine host for our developers to crunch code but we were purchasing workstation towers for 2k a pop. Then i stumbled upon this. Purchased 4 of these processors and H8QG7+-LN4F Supermicro board. Ran basic tests to make sure everything was working properly. ESXi had no issues with the processors. Then bought the chassis, 256gb RAM, and hard drives. I used the 900GB WD drives. Raided everything up and began deploying windows VMs. In the end of the project that cost $20,000, I deployed enough VMs for 60 developers. After using all of the ram and equal distribution of cores, the CPUs were at only 50% load. These are by far the best processors for virtual machine environments, and they are relatively cheap per core compared to intel.

Cons: None after a month. Cant say anything about heat sinc the server is in a datacenter.

Other Thoughts: I am not sure how this CPU will do rendering of things, but it has been the chosen one for visualization. We may get another setup soon.

5 out of 5 eggs16 CORES!!! Go freaking wild!!!

Pros: Put this on a Supermicro H8DG6-F (also purchased from Newegg) with 64Gigs of RAM.

Running TWO RAID volumes from the onboard SAS2008 and let me tell you.... FLAWLESS VICTORY.

Yes the CPU and mobo are freaking expensive, but I've gotten EVERY PENNY's worth and it's not even into production yet!

I was worried when the CPU arrived because the box was a wreck, (not newegg's fault) and I just knew something was going to be wrong with it.

But I plugged it in and RAN it through some burn in tests and havn't had a single issue.

Oh, I put Noctua cooling on this baby and it's running RIGHT AT 30C.

I could not ask for more.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm a happy AMD customer, have been for a decade or more....Will continue to be.

Intel should be ashamed putting spy tech into their products....if you don't know what I"m talking about then you're not paying attention.

5 out of 5 eggsImage Processing Monster

Pros: - 16 cores
- Ideal for multi-threaded mathematical operations including image analysis algorithms
- Uses G34 socket
- High performance/price ratio vs. Intel Xeon options

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Put two of these into an ASUS KGPE-D16 dual G34 socket board to build a specialized image processing workstation running Windows 7 Pro. Our image analysis software multithreads to all 32 cores and these dual 6378s just completely blow away our current dual Xeon E5645 workstations. This was a bit surprising considering the fact that our code is optimized for Intel Performance Primitives. AMD really has done a nice job with the Piledriver core implementation for the 6300 series. Highly recommended for heavily multithreaded applications.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome

Pros: Lot of threads. I have 4 of these opterons in a brand new supermicro server with 64 cores and 256GB ram. We use this machine to run a federal-sponsored online scientific database of materials properties. Many users do remote operations on the web so we need as many cores as possible to serve the operations. In a normal temperature office, the CPUS get quite warm (45-50C). I also need to put larger fans as the supermicro fans are way too loud for an office.

Cons: Pricey, but you know this before buying.
