3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Dunno yet. Presumably it's plenty of RAM at good speed for good price. Pretty.

Cons: One of my sticks was DOA. Of course I had to send both of them back for the RMA, so I'm stuck with my old 2GB of 800MHz.

Other Thoughts: I mostly wrote this because it's my very first DOA after quite a few Newegg purchases, and I want to say you get what you pay for in RMAs. I was cheap and got UPS to send mine back for about $2, but it took twelve days. Newegg, however, turned it around and sent it back within a day. Unfortunately, they sent it back FedEx, with no tracking number, so I have no idea when it will get here.

3 out of 5 eggsBad Stick,

Pros: Ran good for 29 1/2 days.

Cons: almost to 30 days one stick made my game crash. I ran memory check and one stick was bad.

Other Thoughts: Newegg made things right!

2 out of 5 eggsJust a lemon...

Pros: Looks cool, easy to install...

Cons: I had a faulty RAM module. memtest86 identified nearly 100 errors on one of the sticks, the other passed without error. My computer was unstable with both sticks. I even had a BSOD when the computer was starting up after installing a program and a BSOD when my computer was sitting idle!

The memory comes set at 800 MHz, even though Kingston advertises these as 800 MHz and 1066 MHz on its website. Misleading information!

Other Thoughts: Faulty RAM happens. I was lucky enough to have a faulty RAM module. :(

I don't have much more to say against Kingston since everything can't be perfect. In a perfect world every RAM module would work correctly.

Basic computer setup:
Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3
AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Black Edition
this RAM kit
XFX HD-465X-ZDFC Radeon HD 4650 1GB

5 out of 5 eggsgreat value

Pros: Great price for the performance. I didn't have any difficulty setting the proper options in BIOS to run at 1066, but YMMV. I suppose if you're not familiar with playing around with your memory settings in BIOS manually you might have a little difficulty. Not all BIOSes are the same, some make it more difficult than others, or they bury the settings under too many menus. Read through your documentation and you'll be fine.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: It's DDR2 1066, hardly cutting edge, but it works great for what I bought it for. I bought two of these to stick in my development & testing workstation which is running all of my web and database server processes underneath all of my development tools, so far I've had excellent performance. Obviously not just because of the ram, but I'm very happy with the price to performance value.

4 out of 5 eggsDefault is 800Mhz

Pros: Good solid Ram, looks nice too. Able to get 1066 with 7-7-7-20 at 2.1 volts.

Cons: Runs at 800Mhz out of the box, you have to overclock to get the rated 1066. Shouldn't be advertised as 1066 unless it runs at that speed out of the box.

Other Thoughts: If you want 1066 RAM and you have no experience setting timings and voltages then look elsewhere.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent - not for noobs

Pros: I've been a fan of Kingston HyperX since my AMD Athlon XP days. Always good ram, and decent spreaders. This is no exception. Timings are pretty weak, but this is the most affordable 1066 ram, and it is rock solid at 1066 (at the provided timings).

Cons: You have to manually set the speed and timings. Not SPD for 1066 operation! Of course depending on your BIOS, this may be quite a chore for a noob. If you are > a noob HyperX++. If you are a noob, look for ram with 1066 in SPD.

Other Thoughts: Kingston HyperX has been awesome for me in the past, and this seems to be no exception. I've pushed it to 567 or so with a slight FSB overclock and it runs great at the 1066 timings.

The SPD timings are only set for 800MHz operation, so you'll need to 'Overclock' the ram to 1066. Just setting the speed to 1066 won't do it though, you'll need to set the timings based on it's rated 7-7-7-20 speeds. Technically this is overclocking - but Kingston lists operation at 1066 with 7-7-7-20 timings. The product page has details, but it's a bit counter intuitive to not include the 1066 timings in SPD. Other than some configuration woes, this is solid!

Since I had to go into the bios and change the config on the ram manually for 1066 operation, I'll knock one egg. It's not that it's a problem - it's just a nuisance.
