4 out of 5 eggsUPDATE to "Fast but Finicky"

Pros: After purchasing replacements for 2 of my original 4 chips, I have everything working on my Alienware M17x R4 at 2133MHz, dual channel mode. No more POST failures!

Cons: At least one of the original 4 sticks I ordered from NewEgg was lousy. My original set (2 kits, 4 sticks total) did not like to run at 2133MHz. My original review explains the details, except that after a while it stopped working completely and I had to revert to running at 1866MHz to get my laptop to power up.

Other Thoughts: I got a lousy stick or two with my original order but they worked somewhat for just over 30 days so I wasn't able to do an exchange. If you buy these and have intermittent problems, don't make the mistake of sitting on them like I did. Exchange them while you can because there may be some bad sticks in the bunch.

Corrections to my original review: The timings I mentioned using for this RAM at 2133MHz are 12-12-12-36, not 11-11-11-36. Also the 1866MHz RAM I mentioned using in my M14x R2 is CORSAIR Vengeance, not Crucial RAM as previously stated.

3 out of 5 eggsFast but Finicky

Pros: Fastest laptop DDR3 currently available
Boosted gaming graphics score with switchable graphics enabled on Alienware M17x R4

Cons: Very finicky setup! Took hours of tinkering to get it working. Purchased 2 sets (4x4GB chips) for Alienware M17x R4 w/ i7 3740QM CPU, A10 (newest) BIOS. Laptop did auto-detect 2133 speed but would NOT POST with all 4 chips installed using auto-detect default BIOS settings. Would only operate full-speed (2133) in single-channel mode (only 2 chips installed.) Could run at 1866 speed in dual-channel mode with all chips installed, but not 2133. Tried many things to correct, including manually entering all RAM timing settings from manufacturer's published values; tried slower timings too. Nothing worked. Laptop would power on for a couple seconds and shut back off. Final fix - I was ready to try anything - was to try all 16 different combinations of each different chip in each different slot. I found one and only one combination that works - and it was one that separated the kits so modules that were packaged together were not on the same channel together. Weird huh? Been operating fine all day since; Passed RAM stress tests. Will post again if conditions change.

Other Thoughts: I'd read the reviews stating that these chips were finicky to set up and did not work for everyone but I purchased anyway for the performance capabilities. I did finally get them to work on my system but one might want to consider purchasing Crucial's 1866 SO-DIMM's instead as they are cheaper, easier to set up, perform reliably at 1866, and now they're available in 8GB sticks in addition to the 4GB's. I've run a pair of Crucial 1866 4GB's in my M14x for 6 months now with great performance and no issues - even running at 9-9-9-27 (faster than published) timings and overvolted to 1.65v. These Kingston's WILL NOT run fullspeed with timings any better than the published 11-11-11-33. I'm using 11-11-11-36 btw. Also running tRAS=171 instead of the published min. of 160. All other timings stock. Remember you can't return these high-end RAM chips for a refund if they don't work for you!

4 out of 5 eggsfastest RAM for gen 2/3 intel notebooks

Pros: Fastest ddr3 chips available for notebooks. not priced insanely high. gives good performance gain to integrated intel HD video.

Cons: Should be plug and play, but I needed to set my bios to make it run @ 2133.
8GB is the max for 2 sticks at this speed.
others in forums with the same system have trouble at 2133, but I am running smooth

Other Thoughts: Been running this in my m14xr2 since I first heard of it on another forum site. after initial bios configuration I am running @ 2133MHz and have no issues.
