2 out of 5 eggsIt was fast but not furious!

Pros: Twice as fast as my Lenovo T500's 7200rpm OEM disk, according to CrystalDiskMark.
Cloning the OEM disk was extremely easy.

Cons: Was probably the cause of many blue screens, hangs, program crashes (that never used to happen in the previous nine months of using this T500.

Other Thoughts: I bought this on Nov 27, installed it in my Lenovo T500 on Jan 7, and swapped the OEM drive back in on Feb 5!

It may have been coincidental, but during the one month using the SSD, I got more blue screens, system hangs, and program crashes than probably in my entire career (almost 30 years!)!!!

Yesterday the T500 wouldn't reboot, Windows complaining half way through the boot process that it "cannot evrify the digital signature" of ntkrn1pa.exe. Lenovo's "Restore & Rescue" was AWOL as well, hanging when I tried to go into "Advanced Restore & Rescue". Reseating the SSD didn't help.

I swapped the OEM drive back in, put the SSD into the Kingston USB enclosure. When I plugged it into laptop, I got a pop-up error dialog: "You need to format the disk in drive G before you can use it. Do you want to format it? Format disk/Cancel" !!!! When I tried to access the drive via Windows Explorer, I got: "G:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." Howeve

5 out of 5 eggsGreat kit

Pros: The benefits of SSD are obvious so all of that applies ot the pros. The REAL pro to this in my eyes is the ease of use that the kit provides. Nice little external enclosure, the bundled software is very well done and the cd is bootable. I've used this kit for the SSD as well as other conventional HD swaps on laptops and I love it! Soooo easy to clone drives/migrate data.

Cons: I'm 100% satisfied, no cons.

3 out of 5 eggsWarranty

Pros: Looks fast. I'm sure it is. Haven't bought one yet. Only reason I only gave it 3 eggs was because of the writeup. Still gonna buy one.

Cons: The Newegg product page says that this drive comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Kingston says 3 years.

2 out of 5 eggsJust bad luck I hope

Pros: Really does make a huge difference in how fast the computer feels. No heat and silent! Longer battery life. Makes your ageing laptop feel new again.

Cons: Price, still some stuttering issues, but nothing to write home about.
Ok the big one, worked great but died in a week of mild use. I hope I just got a lemon and the next one will last a lot longer! Loved the drive while it worked, but now it can not be partitioned and all data is gone.

Other Thoughts: The laptop that I installed this drive on has been the first PC to top out my Gigabit network while pulling data from my server.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent way to upgrade a MacBook Pro

Pros: Installation was a snap with my first gen MacBook Pro, it took less than a half-hour. I did a clean install of Snow Leopard, and everything went flawlessly. All I can say is, wow, what a difference this drive makes! My four-year old laptop has taken on a new lease on life, it's almost like having a new machine. Everything is *much* faster, it runs much cooler, and battery life is noticeably better. All in all a more than worthwhile upgrade.

Cons: None that I can think of. I've had no problems with mine, and I know nothing of the supposed faster, more expensive, SSD drives, so I can't compare. I do know this one is a lot faster than my Western Digital hard drive.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommended upgrade for MacBook Pro owners.

5 out of 5 eggshp311 ion monster upgrade

Pros: 0 heat - lower power consumption higher speeds on crystal bench 116sequential read and 92 write.. the standard sam*sun* drive was getting an average of 76/73 this drive may not be the fastest drive but its faster than any spinning drive on non raid. All the programs are 100% responsive and there is 0 stutter issue there are several reviews on *utuBe*

Cons: it wasn't free, and only 119gigs when partitioned out :(

Other Thoughts: good gAwed newegg is fast ordered at night 3 day free shipping and here in 1 day.. man its crazy... hp 311 is said to be sata 2 standard but i've only hit 116/92 on this drive the max this drive can do on an actual desk top is 120-124 write and/ 99 read it was benched on an i7 system on the web.. this drive is well worth it... enjoy the speed.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and cheap

Pros: Affordable, easy to install, included external enclosure, cloning software included, faster boot time and shutdown. Some benefit of increased battery life.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these one for my netbook (Asus 1000h) and the other for a tablet pc (HP tx2500z). Installation went without a hitch. I didn't use the included cloning software and instead used Acronis. Booting and shutdown is faster. I have Win7 on the netbook and Vista Ultimate 64 on the tablet. Now I don't have to worry closing the laptops and and placing it on it's sides right away since there's no platters to ruin. The biggest advantage is that it can take more bumps compared to HDD's and programs starts faster. And another surprised benefit is that when I tried to activate readyboost it said it wasn't necessary. I agree about Dell. It does have a special partition for it's Media software. I'm planning to install one for my XPS m1530.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good price. Fast random access reads. Good replacement service.

Cons: I purchased the Kingston SSDNow to replace the internal hard drive of my generation 5 Macbook Pro. The drive died within a month. The drive became completely non-responsive and refused to show up or partition in Mac or windows. I RMA'd the drive and got a replacement. This drive died weeks later. This time the drive claimed to be a 4GB ( instead of 128 GB ) drive, but would not partition, read or write. I am now on my third drive and hesitant to install it.

Either I have had exceedingly bad luck, Kingston has a crop of faulty drives or there is an incompatibility with my Macbook. Either way I am hesitant to use the drive for anything essential and very grateful for TimeMachine backups.

4 out of 5 eggsStutter in Windows XP Can Be Fixed

Pros: Flash is dead quiet.

Cons: More expensive than magnetic media.

Other Thoughts: The stutter problem in Windows XP is because WXP doesn't align partitions on 32 kB boundaries. If you partition the drive correctly, you will get rid of the stutter problem.

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems

Pros: Works as advertised.

Cons: Doesn't fold my laundry or prepare my taxes.

Other Thoughts: Seems a good buy if you understand that this drive's advertised access speed is 2.5 to 3 times slower than the high end brands. It's also 2.5 to 3 times cheaper. It's a bargain brand, but it works fine, and slow SSD is still faster than whatever spinny-drive you are currently using. I purchased it to save money and low power usage and durability are the real reasons I wanted to go SSD. In a few years the higher-end drives will probably be worth the investment, but right now I think buying a bargain model is a good idea so long as it works, and this one does.

I am sorry for the people who have had bad experiences. I would not discount what they say. But in my situation I manually installed this into a custom -built Crown laptop and have had no problems. Dual-booted Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10 and both OSes boot up super fast, (Linux still a little faster than Windows, of course :p).
