Good Memory PC-4200 Computers
- Pros: This memory installed fairly easily (it is ram..), and after I booted back up my computer, there it was. The heat spreader on the ram seems to be of very high quality, it was a nice touch. I ran the computer with both Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (to make sure all 4GB's were being seen), and I now run it stably with Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. (3.5GB are able to be seen) I didn't check to see how hot the RAM is, but seeing as the 1GB stick that was in the computer before ran very cool without a heat spreader, I'm sure it's not a big change at all.
- Cons: The plastic packaging is evil. After getting the back off, I couldn't remove the ram because the little indentation they were sitting in was warped perfectly so that the ram couldn't come out, but also so that cutting it was basically out of the question. Eventually I ended up cutting a very small part and then carefully tearing it, but it was much more trouble than it should have been. The other con is the very high price. It seems like NewEgg and other computer parts retailers are beginning to phase out older ram like this, the price for 4GB of PC-4200 when I looked just about a month ago was a steady $35-$45. Paying the $51.99 I paid, it seemed a lot after watching the price not move for 3 weeks.
- Other Thoughts: If you have a computer that takes PC-4200 ram, and you need 4GB, buy this.
However, if your computer can take a faster type of ram, do not buy this because of the high price.
Good memory
- Pros: Very good memory - no problems, dual channel set with no problems - didn't even have to change anything on my BIOS
- Cons: None
- Pros: I've been running this for half a year now, on a pc that's almost never turned off, and it's been rock-solid.
- Cons: none
