5 out of 5 eggsKingston (Better than Crucial)

Pros: Replaced Crucial memory of equal specifications with this Kingston memory. Installed the Kingston memory and no more intermittent crashes and my PC is noticeably faster!

Cons: I always considered Kingston memory toward the lower end of the quality/reliability spectrum. Someone here described Kingston memory as akin to the "workhorse" of memory as compared to the faster, more sleek memory offerings of other companies. My limited experience with Kingston memory bares this out. For me, RAM reliability is infinitely more important than being slightly faster.

Other Thoughts: I have used Crucial memory exclusively for about 10 years because people answer my calls and because they provide a lifetime warranty on their memory.

My PC would crash intermittently about once a week and toward the end up to twice a day. The Microsoft RAM diagnostics returned an error. Crucial insisted getting even a few errors during an hour or longer memory test is "normal". What!?! They insisted that my RAM was okay, but if it was bad it because I mishandled it or installed it incorrectly. Crucial memory corrupted my c-drive. It took days, purchase of recovery s/w, and purchase of a new h/d to recover it.

That's when I decided to try Kingston memory. It worked and is still working! Not a single crash in over a month since replacing the Crucial RAM w/ Kingston RAM.

I explained these results to Crucial. They have not responded. Having people answer phones who are incompetent is of no value to me. A lifetime warranty that is not honored is of no value to me.

5 out of 5 eggsFixed Problem with D865PERL System

Pros: This memory works like it should! No errors and is compatible with a Intel D865PERL motherboard.

Cons: None whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: I consider my PC a work tool. Reliability is most important to me. So, no over-clocking, buy only name brand hardware, use a video card that does not have a fan (they go bad). I follow ESD prevention guidelines, do not let dust build up inside the tower (enclosure), and I use a UPS with power conditioning. And, I am even more cautious the software side.

However, my eight year old PC (D865PERL, 2.8GHz Intel P4 and 1GB Crucial CT3264Z40B) as had intermittent, but persistent "blue screen" crashes for about 2 years. My C drive became corrupted and had to be replaced about a year ago.

Windows XP gave several different diagnoses for what was causing the crashes: anti-virus software, drivers, and RAM or other hardware.

A RAM test indicated one error over a several hour test period. Crucial says a few errors is normal and that their RAM is not the problem.

Replaced the Crucial memory with Kingston. The "blue screen" crashes are gone and my PC is noticeably faster.

5 out of 5 eggs10 minute install! Or could be 7!

Pros: Easy to install in Sony VAIO PCV-RS620G.

Cheap upgrade considering it makes your computer fly.

Cons: This is not really a con but just an observation; this RAM is not much to look at, no fancy heatsinks or anything, if you want bling look elsewhere, this is just plain RAM.

Other Thoughts: I'll take you through the install in my Sony VAIO:

Note: I installed this RAM without a grounding strap, I'm not suggesting that you do the same. Tip: touch the metal on the chassis of the computer before installing RAM if you don't have a grounding strap.

1. Unplug all wires and accessories from computer.
2. Place computer on a solid level surface not on carpet.
3. Unscrew screws from back, I had 7.
4. Remove cover or side panel, mine slid off.
5. Locate old RAM on motherboard, I had 2 sticks of
256 mb, remove RAM by pushing side clips on either
side down and pulling RAM straight up and out,
don't touch the gold parts.
6. Install new RAM, remember not to touch gold
portion, hold by edges, place in slot push down gently
one side at a time you will hear it click in place,
clips should be seated properly, check to make sure
7. Install cover or side panel.
8. Screw all screws back in.
9. Plug all wires/accessories back in.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat upgrade!

Pros: Installed in a minute, doubled the existing system memory on a 6 year old custom built system.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Wish I had done this sooner, but when I upgraded the system to Windows 7 512MB wasn't enough. Now running 1 GB and everything is good!

5 out of 5 eggs5 years so far

Pros: Five years no problems. Even went through two motherboards. If you need these now you are not working with newer equipment, but you can be sure they will last.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Looking through old reviews I found I never reviewed these. Used as my personal machine they survived a motherboard failure/change. It is an old P4 3 GHZ computer with just one fan in the case so I know it ran hot most of it's life. It has now been relegated to a seldom used upstairs computer, so they made it to retirement.

5 out of 5 eggsJamaican RAM

Pros: It works and has worked since 2005.

Cons: none, other than it's really outdated as of this review.

Other Thoughts: Kingston doesn't seem to make the fancy stuff that's the fastest, etc. but they do seem to make a solid and reliable product that last for a long time and rarely fails.
