1 out of 5 eggsCheap and Crummy, It's simply AWFUL

Pros: It was inexpensive.

Cons: One out of 2 sticks SLOWLY failed. First, it was OK and then, the 8 GB stick would come and go. Finally, it appeared to show up, but when I isolated the bad stick by itself, the system could not post, getting a "54" error in the bios: "Unspecified Memory Initialization Error". The other stick works fine.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. I thought that I was getting a "deal" here when, in fact, I purchased trouble and have been burned. I've have well over 30 years of experience in the computer business and have worked with PCs since the early 80s. Count on the fact that I will NEVER buy another GEIL product again. I've learned my lesson. This was my first GEIL product and my last!

1 out of 5 eggsI Take it Back

Pros: The memory came up in the BIOS with the correct settings. It worked good while it worked.

Cons: This memory only lasted a few weeks before one of the modules crashed. It took out my OS with it, so that's a couple of hours of setup I had to do over again.

Other Thoughts: My original review was a bit too soon, this memory crapped out on me in the middle of the night and took out the OS with it. I went with a better brand, and RMA'd this one for a refund. I'm not interested in replacing memory and re-loading the OS every few months. I thought I'd give Geil a shot, but this experience has soured me on the name. Thanks NewEgg for your reasonable RMA terms.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: 1600 Mhz DDR3 for a great price with coolers. Fired these up on my Gigabyte board and went into the BIOS, everything automatically set up without a problem at 1600. The yellow fins aren't super attractive, but might work with a yellow board if you've got windows, I don't so I don't care.

Cons: No cons really, maybe the color I suppose.

3 out of 5 eggsCheap, Fast, only semi-reliable.

Pros: Cheap - Bought on sale
Capacity - 16 Gigs is nothing to scoff at
Speed - Run fast and well

Cons: Reliability - I had 1 stick fail when I first purchased them within a week. This required both to be sent back to get a new stick. I just had another one fail today. The other RAM running alongside them runs just fine and has been for a year.

Other Thoughts: The RAM was cheap, served me well for months after the first replacement, but I'll be avoiding GEIL from now on. I'll stick to the blessed triumvirate companies of RAM. Shouldn't have strayed from the light.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Worked right out of box with no problems.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: Cooler Strips attached to chips work great to keep them cool and look good too.

2 out of 5 eggs1 out of 4 sticks failed

Pros: I purchased 4 sticks of this ram, for a total 32gb, the total was less than $160. All I like is the price, that's it.

At least all 4 sticks will work at 1333.

Cons: Ram is rated at 1600, unfortunately 1 stick of ram failed at that speed about 4 months after I bought it. Only recourse is contact Geil and get warranty service. It works fine if I reduce the speed back to the original xmp specs.

TechnoTrickster stated that he was able to get them to work at 1600 with the BIOSTAR TA990FXE AM3+.... I have the same mobo, I was only able to get 3 of 4 sticks to work at 1600. I removed and replaced the ram, swapped out positions, nothing worked.

Probably just going to buy corsair or kingston next time around. Its worth spending an extra $35 so there are no hassles.

Personally I think the heatsinks are very ugly and flimsy, however they seem to do the job.

Other Thoughts: In order to run at 1600 you have to adjust the bios settings as the xmp files are default at 1333.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent RAM

Pros: Works really well. I picked up 2 sets of this RAM for a BIOSTAR TA990FXE AM3+ AMD 990FX motherboard (32 GB max) and it works perfectly. Runs at 1600 MHz as advertised. I did need to go into the BIOS and I adjusted the settings manually (which is normal for most motherboards), so it only took a minute to do. I have been using it about 10 days now running everything from City of Heroes (for 4-5 hours at a time) to running MS SQL queries for work, MSBuild, building WiX MSI packages, etc. no issues whatsoever. Also set up a 4 GB RAM disk using DataRam software and I moved my IE Temp folder onto it (just for fun). I also ran Mem Test (V 4.0) last night for 5 hours (2+ full passes) with no errors. This memory is a great buy and the heatsinks are pretty cool looking too if you have a windowed case.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have used Geil memory 2-3 times in the past 10 years on various builds and I have never had a problem with it. Geil may not be a popular as Corsair, Crucial or Kingston, but it is comparable in reliability and quality in my couple of experiences using it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Memory!!

Pros: I received the memory and the memory was reading at 1600. This was because I already set my motherboard for my existing memory to 1600. The very first time I booted up, Windows 7 crashed. I tweeted a few BIOS settings and it was more stable but, still would crash once in a while. Removed my existing 8GB(2x4GB) Consair sticks and set the memory in BIOS using the specs provided on the box for the Geil. Booted up and no issues.

I just had to face the fact that mixing different memory speeds/manufacturers just wasn't going to work. My Consair was 9-9-9-24 and the Geil was 10-10-10-28.

I am not a "serious" gamer but, I need a lot of RAM for my VM's that I run for work.

Cons: I think it was a great value for the money. I purchased this memory on a Newegg Shell Shocker sale for $87. None that I can think of right now.

Other Thoughts: COPIED FROM ANOTHER REVIEW !

NOTE: There is a nice slip of paper that you'll see immediately after opening the package stating that the memory will NOT default to 1600Mhz, and that this is done as a safety percaution againts some motherboards. All you have to do is go into bios, and the memory will clock up from 1333 to 1600 with no issue.

1 out of 5 eggsCan't run 1600Mhz, No Support

Pros: Cheap, got it for hundred dollar with Newegg coupon
Big capacity, 8GB stick allow you to install up to 32GB ram
Decent Timing, 10, 10, 10, 28 is average

Cons: Does not work on Gigabyte GA-Z77-UD5H motherboard with Ivy Bridge 3570K. Every time I tried to adjust the frequency to 1600Mhz using XMP the system fails to boot up. Contacted the Tech Support since GelL is asking people to do so in other review. They responded the first E-mail asking for Memory Serial Number and Motherboard Timing, then no more response after a week of waiting. I still don't have any answer from them so I have to return the product. Newegg does not pay for return shipping so I am definitely not happy.

Other Thoughts: Bought the Crucial Ballistix 2x4GB instead for $37. It has 1.5V, 8-8-8-24 timing, and work perfectly on my desktop running at 1600Mhz. It proves again the GelL memory has major problem with Gigabyte Motherboard.
